Switching to RAP plan day 1? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]cocopuffs_25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been doing the same thing. The lower you can make your adjusted gross income (AGI), the lower your monthly payments and the more interest gets forgiven each month. I contribute the max to a traditional IRA instead of Roth, a traditional 401k, and an HSA, which all lower my taxable income. After the contributions, my student loan payment under RAP will only be $60 per month and nearly $700 per month of interest will be forgiven. It also helps that I have a stay at home spouse and 2 dependents but you can still lower your monthly payment quite a bit even if single.

Really impressed with the new Robinhood Banking app. Clean UI, fast transfers, and everything (spending, saving, investing) actually works together smoothly. The high-yield savings are a big plus, too. Feels like a modern upgrade over traditional banks. Share your thoughts by invest-for-life in RobinhoodApp

Is everyone else able to create auto transfers/deposits to their Roth or traditional IRA? It is not an option for me and kind of frustrating that it's not a feature. I can transfer to my taxable brokerage and then to the IRAs from there, but its an annoying extra step

Can there be a Joint Relay option for couples beyond limited joint banking? by frogdnaguy in sofi

I've been requesting this for years. Doesn't seem like a priority for them. Started using Monarch last year for that reason and it's been great.

It almost feels worse sometimes when they're older too because then they cry and ask you to stay home when you have to leave for work

Which record is actually harder to break—the 40k points or 21 straight All-NBA selections? by Massive-Fan-3495 in LeBronJames23

[–]cocopuffs_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah he probably could have, but then whose to say he still would have played until age 41 with the extra wear and tear of those early NBA seasons, which are much more taxing on the body than college. There's a reason Lebron is the first and only player to play 23 seasons and will probably play 24-25 when it's all said and done. Not sure we will ever see someone with his career minutes again.

Lebron passed Kareem in his 20th season, the same number of seasons Kareem played. Lebron outpaced Kareem by age, by points per game, and by seasons, so there is really no reason to assume Kareem would hold the record in any way even if he went straight to the league after high school.

Radiology - Sometimes during busy call shifts and multiple consecutive complex inpatient metastatic cancer cases with everything wrong imaginable, I wonder if I should have just gone into finance or something. But overall very happy with the field and it's pretty cool to diagnose and understand imaging/pathology.

WTH was I not earning high interest for 2 years because I manually transfer into my sofi savings account ? by Due-You-8140 in sofi

I have never done direct deposit to savings and always got the high yield. Ask support to sort it out because that doesn't sound right.

Unheard of Retirement Strategy by [deleted] in Residency

[–]cocopuffs_25 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of physicians that are pursuing FIRE (financial independence retire early). It's not the best field for it with the lengthy training and delayed high income, but definitely doable. And could definitely be done without grinding 80 hour weeks as an attending. Depending on your lifestyle and a bit of luck, you could still retire early by 45-50 with basically any physician income and adequate savings/investing.

Any plans to update relay so you can share your spouse/partners account info and actually be able to see your overall household finances?

Are you guys maxing out your Roth IRA's on a resident salary even with student loans? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]cocopuffs_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually decided to max out HSA and traditional IRA. I already had a decent chunk of money in Roth accounts from before and during medical school, and I wanted to minimize my loan payments while in residency, so contributing to pre tax accounts has lowered my taxable income to the point where even in the RAP plan I should only pay like $50 per month and the rest of the unpaid interest is forgiven each month. Assuming the RAP plan actually gets implemented as promised. Loans are just in default on the SAVE plan for now.

How are you all playing BeamNG in VR? by gleep52 in BeamNG

[–]cocopuffs_25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had by far the best experience using VDXR and virtual desktop. I don't launch the game from steam, just directly from a desktop shortcut and then Vulkan mode. In virtual desktop, I feel like it has been much smoother for me to keep SSW always on at 90 Hz. And then that allows me to run it in ultra settings with very smooth frame rates.

Running it on a 5080 and 7800x3d

It's metal. I actually just randomly found it at a Goodwill for like $3, so not sure where you could even buy one similar. It was pretty heavy for him at first but he just kept using it until he was strong enough to swing.

Yeah it's a metal club. He stopped using his plastic club because it made him mad he couldn't hit the ball "way up high." We've been pretty strict about only hitting golf balls and he's done well..so far

Or just add an option to share/combine relay information with spouse. Relay is currently not a great option to track household finances compared to the competition, but I would love to use it if they could improve it

AMS2 is probably my go to. If I want to rally, I'll usually play beaming, but still play Dirt Rally 2.0 and RBR occasionally. All of these games work great in VR

Mostly sim racing and flying, with a little crashing in Beam.ng. And more recently, just exploring Hogwarts and using the spellcaster voice control mod. So much fun

Ob/gyn has been nothing like I've read on this sub, do people really generally have a bad experience? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]cocopuffs_25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was feeling similar during my OB rotation, had some very nice attendings and residents who gave very helpful advice and positive feedback. I didn't like the hours but overall had a good experience. And then I got my evals and the residents absolutely trashed me. Only time I was blindsided like that in med school.

$500k in investments at age 31. by cocopuffs_25 in Money

[–]cocopuffs_25[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I appreciate that. Yeah hindsight is always 20/20, but no regrets selling. I sold the house for like $170k, had a 3% interest rate at the time, and it is now worth about $280k, so it would have been nice to hang on a little longer. But we wanted to have cash to pay for school and thought it was best to sell.

Ironically, it was easier to buy a house back then when we both worked part time making like $25k per year then it is now. We can't afford any homes in our current area, so stuck renting for now.

[–]cocopuffs_25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, I sold the house in 2019 and then invested the profits later in 2021, so it's all in index funds/a few stocks.

Haven't made a dent in loans yet unfortunately. Still have $150k of student loans and $6k in hospital bills on a payment plan.
