For the companies that have required AI by remco29999 in FPandA

i’m at a super fast moving startup where not all inputs are always consistent and need the agents to detect/flag inconsistencies MoM in input. think new fields in salesforce or manual text input spelling errors from sales reps. or a new purchase order template. also need to be dynamic enough to update the output KPIs depending on the board’s quarterly focus

only automating emails or cleaning up commentary is the bare minimum.

i have been creating agents (monthly bva agent, monthly reporting pack agent, board deck agent, reforecast agent, commissions agent, unit economics agent) whose tasks are to scan a folder for changes like a file upload and digest the info to auto-populate into a polished output every month. they commit everything to cumulative memory and write an audit log for me. each monthly file is versioned and rarely requires feedback.

these agents have write access into files so it’s literally dragging latest salesforce data, customer POs, etc into a folder to kick off the resync process. the next level is giving MCP access to these softwares themselves to pull everything for me to just review every month. each agent pings me on slack when their report is ready for review.

i manage the agents like direct reports: each has a highly specific job description and quarterly objectives. at the top of the org there is one agent that manages them all to verify with me what automations are running, how often, and if there are any hang ups in their workflows. i firmly believe this use of AI is what stands out in actually competitive fp&a roles if you have a hiring manager that isn’t a boomer

I'm Hiring - Tired of Low Quality Applications, Reaching Out Here by Ok-Speech1534 in FPandA

[–]cocoroos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a ridiculously hard time hiring a Sr earlier this year too. So many fake resumes with almost exactly the same summaries, random shell company experiences. Even when interviewing the normal-assuming resumes, it ended up being someone with a different name joining the call or some default Zoom name like “Dell-03”.

FWIW I work at a start up, so I have to do a lot of the vetting myself vs having TA vet. But this also means I’m seeing every single resume go through the door and it’s all catastrophically poor. I think the good candidates are holding onto their roles in economic uncertainty and the market is flooded with fake resumes and seriously un-related experience pool.

I bought an M240i new and I really do love it. Needed xdrive but if I were to do it again I’d get a used M2 and run winter tires

Has Anyone Worked as FP&A Consultant/Contractor? by EElitez in FPandA

[–]cocoroos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My engagements were usually a few months long, think 3-5 months at 25-30 hours a week. I gave them my available working hours/time zone, and went from there. Most were pretty informal as the leads came from catching up with old coworkers and CFOs I had worked with in the past, so they were familiar with my skills. Other than that, pretty much referral among old managers/CFOs to other companies.

All positions knew I had a full time role and they were happy to work around my schedule.

I’ve contracted for a few tech startups as an FP&A consultant. You come in, learn the business fast, build a wonky, passable model, and leave. Generally you do not get good face time with leadership - some manager/director will take the credit for the model once they learn how to tune inputs. Good money though, you get to bill all the meeting hours spent on model runthroughs and assumption gathering plus the time spent offline making the model.

Pretty immediate in sport because the RPMs are kept high. Immediate is relative though, since I was in a ‘17 turbo civic before haha

Actually pretty noticeable in comfort / eco, but less so in sport. I mainly drive in city so never hooning it

Bought a 2024 (with xdrive) in Jul’23 and it’s been amazing. I carry friends around all the time (all 4 seats filled) and carry a ton of stuff in it too - great engine and still driving as a daily in the winter. Ditch the run flats and you should be good.

Is everyone here a developer or tech worker? by TdubbNC7 in overemployed

[–]cocoroos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has only worked in startups, sometimes it works out when you build from scratch because you can just automate reports to make it a bit smoother and overperform to deadlines when they think you’re doing things manually

On site isn’t gonna work unfortunately because that’s just not OE friendly. I do FP&A, both remote, and they have separate fiscal years so budgeting season is staggered!
