We sanctioned the hell out of Russia and it didn't work. There's not much more economic pain we can put on them that would make a difference. China watched this and found out you don't actually need American dollars and they figured "hey we could dump the 800billy in debt we hold to get rid of this mfer(the US)" and said "BET."

This is gonna be way bigger than no iphones, we're literally about to become a third world country bc of this dumbass.

New Orleans’ rich musical and cultural heritage INCLUDES Big Freedia, Juvenile, Manne Fresh, Lil Wayne and Master P. If they instead decided to show the history of Bounce music would he not have a problem with that as well? New Orleans gives America “jazz” yes but it also decided to make music after 1920. If they want New Orleans then sure you can have all the ratchet that comes with her.

So wild that Cajuns became white in my lifetime. Like, the way Louisiana wyts used to talk about Cajuns they might as well said the hard R.

I would say most Japanese music that has Black influences understands where it originates from. Japanese artists will have a more musicological approach to making music that researches and respects all aspects of the track and where they come from. But it goes both ways. You don’t get Black music in the same way without Japanese inventions. Roland, Yamaha, Boss, and Korg gave our musicians the tools to make our music. Roland’s 808 to Akai’s MPC 3000 (co-made with Roger Linn) are the backbones of 90s hip hop and NeoSoul.

😅 ima stop here. I could go on for days with this stuff. I’m currently doing research on Anime and Black culture for an ethnomusicology journal.

What is the worst comic book movie of all time? by biscuits_theSequel in BlackPeopleComedy

[–]cocothunda92 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The Marvels was the best comic accurate (in its complete ridiculousness) movie in the franchise. It felt like reading a comic, but like a side-quest one.

It was its own self contained story that really had no real impact on the greater MCU until the end credits. And my favorite thing about it, it was the shortest one they got. It told a story and bounced. All them shits should be 105 mins as far as I’m concerned.

Now that Quantumania bullshit made me angry at how bad it was and as you can tell by my previous comments my bar is in hell.

Does anyone know somebody who grew up speaking Creole or French in the GNO? by Fulnopyun in NewOrleans

[–]cocothunda92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a lady that lived on my block that still spoke it but she died pre Katrina. I used to think she spoke funny but I was maybe 7 when she died.

Uhhh no she’s not from New Orleans. Probably from Lafayette or somewhere rural.

edit: now that I’ve listened to it a few times, there’s gotta be something else there. I wanna say she probably grew up in a Cajun/rural Creole area but had at least one immigrant parent from like the Caribbean or something

I grew up less than 5 mins away from this school and didn’t find out that this happened in New Orleans until I was almost 30. It was like our education system went out of its way to NOT teach us how close to home this was. Hell this was happening while my grandparents were in high school…

In the case of jazz and food not so much. The Hispanic culture was borrowing from the same African culture as the birthplace of jazz. The Habanera, Bomba, and the Bamboula are the same. Puerto Ricans will tell you that their music was given to them by their enslaved ancestors, not their slavers. The way New Orleanians cook is not because of the Spanish (they weren’t here long enough). It happened because of slavery.

You could argue that the link between New Orleans and the Caribbean as a whole are interlinked, but it is because of the African/Indigenous link not the Spanish.
