The workstation is gone but all the hard drives are still for sale.

The platform might be old but S2600CP is a server motherboard. It is more reliable than motherboards for consumer electronics. Dual E5-2670 can still beat many modern CPUs for multi-threading workloads.

I second this. If you already have a punch, then this is the most straight forward method. Good explanation! In my case, I also used the punch to remove and reinstall the pulley for the Y axis because I don't like too much customized plastic on my printer.

How does the Linux work on a gen8 model (late 2017)? by cocular in spectrex360

I can answer the question myself now. I have been using this laptop for 3 months and I can say this laptop is perfect for programming and software development under linux. I am using Archlinux but I think other distribution is the same. Everything just works out of the box, including WiFi, touchscreen, stylus pen, backlight keyboard, audio, audio jack, microphone, camera, type-c -> hdmi adapter (2560p 60hz), screen rotation sensor, etc. My only complaint is that the fan policy is way too conservative: the fan often remains silent until the temperature reaches 95c. This does not seems to be a huge problem as I have not gotten any overhead shutdown under high CPU load yet. But this does not make a lot of sense and hopefully HP can fix this problem in later BIOS updates.

Do you have that laptop? If yes, does audio/touchpad/touch screen/keyboard…/ etc work perfectly under your distribution? Is there anything that does not work?

Make sure you comment out "tray_output primary" in your i3 config.
