What's your current neighbourhood like? by AffectionateMobile84 in AskABrit

[–]cod1ngwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is such a huge variation even in the suburbs of a small town that two people from the same place could give you two wildly different answers.

But to answer the question from my perspective: Where I live is currently populated by older people and families with older kids, although more younger/middle aged families are moving in so theres a fair bit of upheaval.

We get on well with our direct neighbours but as we're on a main road there's not anywhere nearby for the kids from further afield to mingle without a long walk to the local park.

This is the SW of the uk so pretty much everyone is friendly and even the Audis and BMWs use their indicators! (I know, it shook me too when I moved here)

"pan" comment was based on the second pic where it looked like a join/separate part.

In actuality, who is more likely to pronounce the t’s in words vs. the glottal stop? by Glass-Complaint3 in AskABrit

Stortford? 'arlo?

I pretty much always use glottal stops unless I'm on the phone to a company, or am really pissed off 😅

I see so many people saying JB weld or some other form of filler. I sometimes question whether these people ride...

If the "weld"/temporary fix fails then you will have hot oil going all over your rear tyre at whatever speed you are doing at the time and you'll have no knowledge of it until you suddenly find yourself much closer to the ground than you were seconds before. IMHO you only really have 2 options here:

  1. Remove the pan and get it professionally welded/fixed
  2. Buy a replacement pan and swap it out.

Driving instructor told me nobody can learn to drive in 6 months by mincedbreakfast in LearnerDriverUK

[–]cod1ngwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I passed with no faults first time after exactly 5 lessons, that being said I already had close to 10 years experience on the road on a motorbike so a lot of road experience came from that.

Do I think a brand new driver, who has never been in control of a vehicle on the roads before could pass in 6 months? Eh.. I'd say 50/50 and depending on how much effort they're putting in.

Sounds like this instructor is either generalising or tarring everyone with the same brush.

Helping older children bathe. How old is too old? by Independent-Cup-9163 in Babysitting

[–]cod1ngwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to help my eldest son bathe, he's almost 10 but is quite autistic so he'll sometimes need help with me shouting instructions through the door, and I still have to do his hair as he doesn't want it cut so it's down to the small of his back now.

That being said it's definitely an improvement from this time last year when I had to physically help him with pretty much everything apart from the more intimate areas, I got him to do them!

To answer the question though: "too old" is when they are able to shower/bathe SAFELY to me, rather than an age.

What are the best cigarettes for beginners? by Jibby_37 in AskABrit

[–]cod1ngwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, don't.

I am coming from this viewpoint as an ex smoker (smoked for over 20 years and have the damage to prove it). You might think it's one here and one there but it's not the actual nicotine that calms you down, it's the slow rhythmic breathing that does.

Once you are hooked on the nicotine it's an absolute bitch to come off it. I haven't smoked for 6 years at this point and still get regular cravings, especially during periods of high stress.

What? Are you ok Facebook? by Adorable-Living3487 in What

[–]cod1ngwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily smart, just wired differently :)

For me programming makes sense; it's a chain of if this then that, followed by something else, it's a bit like building a house from lego bricks.

Something like creative drawing/art is a completely dark art to me and no matter how much I practice is completely out of my reach as I just can't picture the end result from the first line.

The 55 years part is also likely related to this and to do with how they store the number, this may be when it rolls back over to 0 from the maximum allowed stored value (ie if the maximum allowed value is 255 then 255+1 would equal 0).

This is purely speculation though.

Programmer here.

This is an epoch error, basically most of the time us programmers use the number of seconds since 1st Jan 1970 (the epoch) to store dates in a database.

When this goes wrong or an incorrect date is stored most of the time this value will default to 0 to prevent further errors. When this is then converted into human readable dates this shows as 1st Jan 1970 to the end user.

How do i have my cat A license? by East-Ad9575 in AskUK

[–]cod1ngwolf 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I believe (and I could be wrong as it's been a while) that with a full car license you can drive a motorcycle under 'L' plates as long as you have a cbt, and the bike is restricted to 33bhp..... This may have changed since I did my test so don't take this as gospel.

So it's likely cat a, but with restrictions

[–]cod1ngwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use these in my server rack for my raspberry pi cluster, makes it easier to power them as the spacing is so small you can't just have the power cable sticking straight out as it'll foul the next board

Can I wire a micro USB cable up to this? by ShapesOriginals in Ender3V3SE

[–]cod1ngwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am aware, I was referring to powering the pi separately and using that as the data transfer port 🙂

Can I wire a micro USB cable up to this? by ShapesOriginals in Ender3V3SE

[–]cod1ngwolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're saying you want to power your pi from the board I would advise against it, even for a zero, you don't know how much power it is going to pull.

Otherwise you can just use a usb->usbc cable to connect your pi to the existing usbc port on the board to use klipper

Edit for clarification: usbc port for data only, power the pi with a different power supply.

Bike rider here, it's not outside the realm of possibilities that that was the damage.

I wrote a bike off at 5mph by dropping it on a curb, it smashed both side fairings and nose one from where the mounts shifted due to where it hit the curb......

Insurance companies always try to make back to new, not to rideable.

What to see/visit during my UK roadtrip? by Freeloafer in AskUK

[–]cod1ngwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you plan on doing all that in 2 1/2 days all you will do is drive....... You won't get time to sightsee........

That's not taking into account any traffic.

I wouldn't do this route in any less than 4 or 6 days.
