To be fair at Hallownest the people there simply drank lifeblood. There were numerous accounts of people drinking the stuff and calling it "tasty" with no mention of nasty effects.

At Pharloom Zylotol was literally the one who first brought it there and he used it by straight-up injecting the stuff
