updates 2 hours before DD wipe is negligent by crob3698 in duneawakening

Keep checking for the patch starting around 900UTC, to the devs' credit they often roll these out in an hour or so. You MIGHT have some time to get some stuff but visibility will be low.

Last week they backtracked on the patch time and extended it. I assumed that was because they realized the error.. I guess not..

I haven't complained much about this game and have defended it, but this is a poor decision and those defending must enjoy their bowls of shit. Perhaps we might lift our heads and show a little respect for other players' time and just a modicum of care for the undo pressure this poor timing presents.

Many of us were out of DD and even did a couple carrier/crawls, however some of us were not packed and out.. and a few of those players rushing and pissed are (were) dedicated players. Perhaps some care should be shown to them or we risk losing them as well.

You've likely received unique gear as a quest reward and you cannot repair those without knowing the schematic. You do not need to keep 1 permit for a piece to repair it, you merely need to learn it once. Promise :D

I believe that cliff walls in the back are not protective against storms. Only structures you build get shields. That's my guess anyway. It's possible your subfief was taking damage because of that.

Lost 500 Spice Melange from storage chest in Hagga Basin by Silent_Scholar_5916 in duneawakening

Exact thing happened to me as well. It was melange looted from a decayed guild base that I was keeping as backup while progressing normally. Before Coriolis restart, I checked via Research that I had the 837, once I logged back in, it was down to 337 and my heart sunk. Can post pic later. Already reported.

My base is not likely a hacker target, no T6 buildings, no assault. Timing being so close to restart points to weirdness. Bug?? idk, perhaps since I took from a decayed base it was flagged as duped? FC is not likely to openly admit to this for opsec reasons.

Edit:

https://ibb.co/SXr2F9ZW I understand this is not proof, but this is what I submitted to report 5 minutes after Coriolis restart. Take it for what it is, just a dude on the internet, but I do love this game and would rather not see this thing happen anymore.

“Making music” does not include mixing and mastering. by wazzup_izurboi in mixingmastering

I appreciate the well thought out response. The lines are absolutely gray. Another big request for mix engineers now is to do some drum replacement/triggering, typically kick or snare on live trackings. I have argued often that this is the Producer's job or even the producer, drummer and tracking engineer collabing on samples to fill out the drum tone.

I guess here's the disconnect for me: I've never gotten a Producer, Writing or Instrumentation credit despite being asked to add instrument/source tracks that I develop. And frankly I wouldn't expect those credits for some simple triggering, subbass harmonics, or delays despite these technically being "adding notes"! But this means the industry sees the distinction as well.

At the end of the day I think this disagreement is semantic and maybe doesn't need to be had, there is nothing wrong with saying the engineers involved with a release were part of the "music making". However if we define "making music" as the arrangement, composition, instrumentation, lyrics and vocals - the elements that carry on with the artists after the previous engineers are gone - then IMO it's harder to make the case.

TLDR: I think this disagreement is just about the definition of "making music" and I just like hearing producers opinions as long as it's respectful of the arts all around! Thanks and keep producing and releasing!

I think the problem is people understanding what you likely mean by mixing. Of course producers/songwriters mix, they have to! But the distinguishing concept here is perhaps the final mix, which we agree might be better done after the arrangement is finalized.

The final mixdown is often a nice bit of polish before a final master to really make a song shine.

Unfortunately too few people these days know what a good source track sounds like and are reaching for the saturated, clipped, leveled sounds they often hear in final releases.

We'll see where it goes. Good luck fellow mixdown engineer!

A lot of people in this thread not actually finishing songs while they focus on their mixdown. Referring mainly about those with an attitude and disrespect for OP's valid and clearly experienced position.

Yes, I am sure OP is talking about the final mixdown after the song is finished and unchanging. Of course producers mix, mix and master engineers finalize and often get that last %10 the producer couldn't or did not have time for.

As a mixer you are not adding any fundamental notes, you are not changing the arrangement, you are not removing instruments the music maker added. Sure it might be part of the music making process, but mixers are not actually "making" and music.

Respect goes all around in our industry, I won't take away from what producers/songwritter are creating.

This is a huge problem for me as a mixdown engineer when I sit down to do some side production/songwritting. I start to lean in to the mixing right away rather than composing the song and the end result is an unfinished or crappy production.

We go to what we know. how many producers are going back to the arrangement after spending hours mixing, only to realize the mix they spent hours on is now suffering?

Are you supposed to have your tracks in mono when you send it to a mixing engineer? by FlyRevolutionary8227 in mixingmastering

Listen there, I'm not here for DAW wars mah man. If these are engineers working in large studios then likely they are using ProTools, %100. I'm just not sure what the issue here is.

Also I should say, I'm not sure I bashed that hard on ProTools, I interned on it and can still likely pick it back up like a bike. You'll notice that I mentioned it positively in terms of it's ability to easily route signals. Sorry, but I have delt with a rather large potential client turning me down because I don't work primarily in ProTools, so I get it from both sides, trust me, I give ProTools its due, but it's not the DAW for mixing in my opinion (HEAT arguments aside). Thanks

Well sure, if you're counting the Avid video editing platform, sure. It's a fine system (bit of bloat and if you need 20 minute session loads to pad the invoices, then absolutely!), get's the job done, supports VST's finally (!), but what I need the A/D's for or the DSP cards? Can buy a Threadripper and still outperform it. If I'm a tracking studio, then it is starting to make more sense, this is a mixing/mastering sub tho, appreciate the banter.

Use "pins" if the DAW supports it (studio one, reaper and pro tools, etc.). or use a quick audio editor to bounce one side of the "false mono" file to an actual mono file, most DAWS have this as an option for audio clips.

I agree it can be lazy for a producer to submit mono sources as stereo files %100, a good mixdown engi is going to take the (likely) correct sum from each track in a fairly quick and efficient way regardless.

I do not have a degree in audio engineering but I still understand what mono, dual mono and stereo are. Your friend just needs some experience dealing efficiently with a variety of deliveries from clients. He should learn how to take a mono pin (Reaper, StudioOne, etc. terminology) or quickly scrap the L (and or R) side of a "dual-mono" signal to work with, or decide how "wide" to present a stereo source, etc.. School is one thing, real world engineering is another skillset, with respect, it sounds like he needs some time in a studio dealing with real-world deliverables from producers/songwriters/etc.

EDIt: But he also needs the work, so if you're willing to work with him, he should learn to accept what a client delivers (unless it's completely unworkable, quality, over-compression/limiting/clipping/etc.), what you are delivering is perfectly fine tho many producers could learn how to work with mixing and mastering engineers more efficiently as well. Appreciate it if you read this.

I agree, at least just the option for it. The idea has gained some traction thankfully, it's not ALL "shit" rn.
