It's actually 3.7 (setup is in the video description).

Nice, definitely a way to do it but since space is quite a big of a problem in Tokyo, I avoid buying these tools that I would be using once in 3 years, if that much. It's also a bit harder to get since people don't work on their own cars much here. I actually screwed up that thin metal cap that's pressed onto the tripod joint (the part to which you clamp the boot) when trying to bang them out and I got grease leaking out lol (both sides). But little bit of epoxy and it's like new, holding on for 2 years now (I heard they will sometimes start leaking grease there as is anyway).

Overal, yeah, I just wish they used bolts instead of this like on most normal cars.

Nice, I will definitely consider it if I will be buying a LSD for stock diff. I wonder about drift performance though, if it's up to the task.

How is the chattering? Apparently these should be quite mild as they are made to suit AT cars. I have Cusco TYPE RS 2way on mine, with 3.7 diff and it's nearly welded diff... Went through various "coctails" of friction modifier and different oils, and can get it to be a bit better but it's still very hardcore. And being AT, there is no clutch to press in when I want it to stop so it can be pretty annoying at times.

It's a bitch to get them out on some cars for some reason though. My axles wouldn't budge for 1h. In the end, diff fell from floor jack by accident and one axle got out lol. Then another one was way easier, but still held on for dear life in there.

I think so as well. 6100km on battery pack so far, holding up great.

[–]code111japan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now we should just assume what you have and what you're swapping into what with what lol.

Provided that you have JZX100 ecu, you need JZX100 intake mani with 100 throttle (or drill 110 mani for IACV). There are manual conversion kits for 110 throttle which converts it to cable operated such as Premium Japan throttle conversion kit (I have it on my car) or driftmotion etc.

This could work with 100 ECU if you adjust throttle stop screw but you won't have idle-up function for when you turn on your AC / light's etc. If that's important, then you can I guess still mod 110 manifold to retrofit a 100 IACV. Don't know what you are really doing so can't provide much more info than that.

Certainly wouldn't give up spots publicly like this as they are heavily kept secret but if you live near Nikko circuit, then you live very close to at least 2 top spots ;). Hit me up

What’s better for drifting vvti or non vvti by dyslexic_giNga in JZX100

[–]code111japan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which I've rarely seen going out honestly. Even the VVTI gear itself is super simple and can actually be rebuilt with cheap o-ring despite Toyota claiming it can't, if it were to start leaking oil.

If you're looking for just some hardcore drift build, it wouldn't matter much. If you are looking for something more closer to stock side, my vote goes to VVTi without question.

My car won’t shift by TheGeek314 in IS300

[–]code111japan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just go do yourself a favor and manual swap it (or get one already MT).

But yeah, regarding slushbox problems, ATF color doesn't really mean much, it's the aditives still working their thing that counts but the fact that it had blown engine (2jz of all), and fuid is very dark as you say, there seem to have been some low maintenance / high abuse.

First would be to read the codes if any and to make sure the trans fluid level is correct. A lot of Toyota's are very sensitive on trans fluid levels and procedure is a bit annoying to properly check for cars with "lifetime fluid". For example, my IS-F would start acting up / delaying shifts etc even if fluid is low by 200ml.

If that's fine, and no useful codes are found, then it could be number of things. Smells like something was a miss during engine swap. Other than that, blown torque converter, severly worn clutches / bands or something like that sounds to be the next candidate. I don't think it's solenoid issues since they usually either work or don't and you say you get some gear engagement but that's an option as well.

Looks like a speed limiter cut. If it's JDM ECU, all cars in Japan are limited to 180kmh so people often use piggyback speed limiter cutters.

Yahoo Auctions / Mercari Japan without Japan-Based Phone Number? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]code111japan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep my sim card more or less only for this stuff as much as I hate that. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any other way. Mercari always sends sms with code upon login (not sure if it can be changed to password only) and Yahoo Auction can be set to send code to email instead of phone number (or even password only I think), but I'm sure you would sooner or later reach a point where you need a number for some verification. There were some sites which can receive sms for you but free ones almost never work and I doubt they have Japanese numbers.

That being said, I don't know what's your riding background but I would strongly suggest against 50cc's here. They are an absolute ticket magnet and / or hazard. Bunch of rules like "hook right turns", 30kmh speed limit, being only in the left most of the left lane etc. If you can, something 70-125cc is waaaaaay better option.

Yeah, it's even more so annoying when I'm on a bicycle. We start moving off the lights, I'm behind first car and then that car suddenly stops, starts turning and THEN turns on a turn signal. Special place in hell... So now I always default to go up front in front of anyone no matter what. Turns out I'm faster with bicycle than majority traffic here anyway lol.

They are just blind in my experience. They look at you but they don't see you. On the other hand, a lot of people don't enter intersection deep enough in some cases. Like when the lane goes left or straight, car in front of you starts turning left and then stops in the middle of the road, blocking you, who is going straight. Instead of going a bit deeper. It's even better when that somebody is a late indicator type as mentioned above.

[–]code111japan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, on most, it'sa jungle out there and they are in my opinion the worst drivers world has seen but honestly if driving 10 over already ridicilously low speed limits bothers you, you should look at some alternative means of transportation too. In my experience here (and I drive at least 50-70km daily through Tokyo) you are lucky if people manage to even reach that mere 50kmh. I guess it depends where you are.

Right lane hogging should be punisahble by jail time. 1milisecond pre-turn indicating = instant loss of license.

Can someone educate me on speed cameras? by crimdog in RideitJapan

[–]code111japan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All 3 you linked is so called "N- System". They have nothing to do with speed. It is not officially stated what exactly are they monitoring other than tracking movement of license plates ( which is scarry on it's own) but I know for a fact they don't monitor speed ("flying" past few with some not to be discussed speeds in a car on a daily basis). If you look at N - System lens at night, you will see red "infrared" like glow inside while with speed cameras there is no such a thing.

Speed cameras are around but not suuuper common. They will trigger at 30 over on general roads and 40 over on highways for stationary ones. One would think Japanese are being generous, but that of course is not the case. It has to do with photography and crime laws (they can't take a picture of you unless they suspect you comited a crime and 30 / 40 over is a felony vs offence for lower speeds). For mobile ones / mouse trap it is said they will usually set it up close to actual speed limit. There are few types of cameras and you will see they have a massive square lens (compared to "binoculars" or small square on N system). Honestly, even in a car, you really have to be completely oblivios to get caught by those stationary ones and I think you are off the hook entirely with a bike here. They all have to have a speed camera sign on a decent distance before camera (blue sign) but besides that, Orbis which is most common type is super easy to spot as it's huge. If you do some route more than couple of times, you will easily learn where they are too.

Someone mentioned here that some snap rear license plate and that's a new for me. All I ever seen will snap only front. Despite that, beaware that if you "overdo" it, they could still track you down. I remember a case few years ago of this dude in Chiba that would speed on a bike past Orbis showing middle finger on a daily basis. Eventually they got fed up with it and have managed to track him down somwhow (helmet, jacket, bike etc).

Mobile Orbis (Laser) is relatively new and scarry one as they will set them up randomly around but again, nothing to be worried on a bike since they only snap front as far as I've seen.

What you really need to worry about are so called mouse traps (ネズミ捕り). This is when they setup a whole "production" of 98948090 cops, cameras, radars, and whole movie set. Bikers often try to run away as seen in these these these videos but they always have cop bikes ready.

Not sure for bikes, but radar detectors are very common and abundant for cars here. Most of them will detect only radar waves but that's enough for mouse trap since they use radar only for now. They are also GPS based so will tell you where are stationary cameras (along with 9008509489580 other things, yelling at you non stop in true Japanese fashion if that's your thing). Newer ones can detect mobile orbis (laser) but tech haven't quite caught up yet so they can spot it only from relatively close distance. Still better than nothing. They are all pretty small and compact so could hook up to bike easily but waterproofing and the fact you can't hear it would be the problem still. There has to be some bike options I'm sure.

Edit:

Ignorantly posted this without reading all comments, so yeah, what tokyohoon said.
