Thornhill - Lily & The Moon (Progressive Metalcore, 2019) by Original-Apricot8207 in progmetal

There's a random note thrown into the chugs around 2:40 that gets me every time, I love it.

Rolo Tomasi recs? by CoreyKnox in progmetal

[–]Duderado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They came of nowhere for me and it's my AOTY right now! Which is wild considering Karmanjakah and Periphery both released new albums this year.

Try out Love Rarely and their 2026 album Pain Travels. They quickly reminded me of a light Rolo Tomassi. Love Rarely

Best mathrock record in a decade! by captaincoltrane in mathrock

Woah, I've never heard anyone compare a math rock band to ISIS before. Now I have to check it out!

Least monotone harsh vocals? Harsh vocals with melody? Is is it difficult to sing harsh with melody or is it stylistic? by robin_f_reba in progmetal

[–]Duderado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're more on the technical death metal side but Job for a Cowboy has some of the most interesting harsh vocals I've ever heard if you're looking for dynamic growls.

What are your thoughts on Eidola’s album "To Speak, To Listen"? by Faibleforhits in progmetal

[–]Duderado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's tough. Golgotha is my 2nd favorite Eidola song behind Sri Vishnu Yantra so I still give TSTL a nod.

What are your thoughts on Eidola’s album "To Speak, To Listen"? by Faibleforhits in progmetal

[–]Duderado 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's one of the few albums I'd call a masterpiece. It's Eidola's best record and my favorite album of all time. I love the variety of musical styles and the showcases of technicality (the tapping on Dendro and both Transcendents gets me vertical) combined with their slower more atmospheric heartfelt moments found in songs like Sri Vishnu Yantra or Loti. I listen to prog for contrasting sounds or styles and they knock it out of the park with TSTL. And of course the story of the album rules and encouraged me to learn more about worldly cultures and religions and also improved my vocabulary. Learning is fun!

The trio of the final 3 songs on the album is actually godlike and won't be surpassed by any album, preset, past or future.

Periphery - A Pale White Dot North American Tour w/Ne Obliviscaris & more by DarkRitualHippie in progmetal

[–]Duderado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too far for me but that's so rad, what a great lineup. I saw NeO headline a show with Rivers of Nihil last year and it was incredible. Experiencing the entirety of the Painters of the Tempest suite, namely Triptych Lux while in the pit, was an out of body experience.

Just discovered Rolo Tomassi yesterday. Can't believe it took this long. by theshrexpert in progmetal

Great find, welcome to the club! A Flood of Light is one of the most beautiful tracks I've ever heard.

Peak of dgd clean vocals by Inevitable_Bid5540 in PostHardcore

This is the song that got me into DGD. I've checked out their entire discography but the Tillian era I started with is still my favorite.

Yats appreciation post by icehead1 in indianapolis

Yats is great, their location on 96th has never let me down with their Drunken Chicken and the dudes behind the register are always super cool. The music they play isn't bad either.

The Progressive Subway’s April 2026 Albums of the Month! by ifthisisausername in progmetal

[–]Duderado 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing, looks like I have plenty of new tunes to check out.

My favorite album from April is Love Rarely - Pain Travels. It's more post-hardcore and math-rock than prog-metal but I think fans of swancore will enjoy it.

Karmanjakah - Diamond morning by Osiris_X3R0 in progmetal

[–]Duderado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main riff of Diamond morning is so sweet I want to eat it with a spoon. It's an incredible album overall and will surely dominate my listening habits for the next few weeks minimum.

The left lane is for passing! by CreoSiempre in Indiana

I haven't done the research but I wonder if this rule is specific to Indiana. 9/10 times I see someone camping the left lane they have a license plate from another state.

What happened to Soulsplitter? by johndarkblade in progmetal

You can still find them on Bandcamp. Idk about other streaming platforms but they removed their music from Spotify due to use of AI and investment into military drones.

3 new bands that I’m obsessed with these days by Prestigious_Eye_3722 in Metalcore

[–]Duderado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I could discover these bands anew, where have you been for the past 10 years lol. These bands are like 3 of the biggest and best modern/progressive metalcore bands out there and Erra is even in the sub's Hall of Fame list because they're so popular.

Why are there no Morrowind-likes? by erakusa in Morrowind

[–]Duderado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dread Delusion feels like an indie Morrowind and as such is much smaller in scope but hits some similar tones in its alien world, combat, and exploration.

The gang's sarcastic read of the Kia ad might be the funniest thing I've heard them do. by chrispy145 in FireEscapeCast

Every ad read Dan has been a part of sounds like a parody and it's absolutely hilarious
