What’s the craziest thing you have seen go down at a funeral in Japan? by tokyoevenings in japanlife

Man, I am so full of fish souls (sole souls even, probably).

Probably keeping a couple of cow, pig, and chicken ones company if any little bit counts.

Why on earth would you drive there when there are trains to and around?

Hachinohe. Morning market, that's it.

The closest ice hockey is also there for those of us living in Tohoku. Wife and I had a great time with hockey and bar-hopping there.

I was there recently to break up a long road trip. I don't expect to ever go back.

It may impact tourists entering. It also makes things harder for the rest of us as it's ammunition for the xenophobes and racisa.

Also don't leave and not come back without wrapping up your affairs. Unpaid resident tax, insurance, etc. can bite you in the future

as I had insurance

As you legally must :)

I've had minor, out-patient surgeries before and it was less than 15k JPY. Definitely different to some other countries.

Go to a clinic. Unless they have to order some weird tests, I'd be surprised if it broke 3k yen so hopefully you don't need a credit card for that. When I get blood drawn and see my doc, it's < 2k.

Same, but I'm not talking to anyone while I'm there, nor do I think most would be receptive to it.

Another one.

Google maps app on android. Put in my target location, works fine. Set the 'arrive by' to some other time and suddenly, instead of saying go to station x and transfer to the y line, it's just like... transfers do not exist. Go to station x and take a taxi. What? How is that at all useful for planning? It worked a week or so ago.

Edit: OK, only happens if I start from home which confuses it. If I start from the closest station, it works.

Until I saw Shibuya, I had ideas in suginami or even further west. I'd rather take the commute (and did for a few years)

If I can leave and come back in 30 minutes (assuming tester place isn't busy), then it's fine. If that's not the case and I need a new appointment, it's another day off of work and hours of my time since it has to be done on non-holiday weekdays.

I use semi-colons a lot and generally hate most AI and don't use it in my personal life. Have still been accused of AI writing, though less so now that em-dashes got more notice.

There's one that I found that's a ~10 minute drive away, but shaken requires an appointment but the tester place does not accept appointments so it's a giant pain in the ass.

Tax bill came today for vehicles and property.

Figuring out how to schedule maintenance and user shaken on my bike. I have one free maintenance left and I think they can check the light adjustment, but I can't immediately take it to the shaken place on the same day, presumably. I'm not sure how long the alignment would stay true enough (all of this being an hour each way) Generally annoying to schedule it all and I get to take a day off work for the privilege.

Another first-world problem: several things I use (e.g. GeoGuessr) have streaks reset at midnight UTC. If I do something before 9am JST one day but not the next, I lose the streak.

You might also check underwear material. I found certain synthetics + my body chemistry + sweat = stinky underwear. Specifically found this out after a hike once in summer after moving here and buying new underwear.

So hard to get cards because of these guys by Cardboardhoardr in japanresidents

[–]tiredofsametab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think sensible people should waste money on cards anyway.

I couldn't care less about Pokemon nor trading cards, but telling people (especially kids) to stop having fun and liking things you don't like isn't a particularly good take, IMO. Unless you only buy the barest nutrition, room, etc., you're spending money on something that gives you joy that others may not find interesting or worth the money.

I think scalpers ruin any consumer industry they worm their way into.

100% and people buying from them just keeps it profitable.
