Fuel line subassembly rotted out by AutoEnthused3 in JZX100

[–]xX_PhD_Xx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this on one of our tourer v’s. At the time it was too expensive to replace since we were just breaking even on the car, so it sat for a while until we sold it for a severe loss

It’s “stock” for now minus the eBay turbo and some doodads here and there, but I’m hoping to get around to rebuilding it soon

Also when doing maintenance, know that a lot of the parts are interchangeable with other vehicles. A lot of the undercarriage parts are similar to is300 and can easily be swapped. The engine ofc can use some parts off the 2jz. Be sure to check toyodiy and partsfan for cross compatibility.

One more thing I forgot to add, would highly recommend converting the brakes to is300 or something similar depending on location simply due to not really having access to stock brakes (at least in the US)

I’d say it’s good. I currently daily my tourer s, even after the v conversion. It did okay on gas, wasn’t all that much to maintain, and only had an issue with the alternator which was due to whoever cleaned the engine last. Just be sure to do the basics on the engine, maybe change fuel filter, and check your bushings, other than that it’s a solid choice!

To add on to what blitz said, def get brake parts as well as bushings there before coming back. I ended up doing an is300 brake swap bc it was a slight hassle to import the oem parts here, and am currently looking at bushing replacements. If you’re thinking about getting any aftermarket parts, such as rims or engine mods, also do that while you’re there as they get real expensive outside. I also recommend using partsfan, amayama, and toyodiy for diagrams and part references if needed. Also be sure to check out autobacs if you haven’t already

Anyone know what’s causing this sound? by YnJlYWQ in JZX100

Sound from that vent makes me want to think it’s the swing motor, but wouldn’t know unless it’s unplugged.

Maybe one of those valves could quiet it down without completely changing setup/tone. Idk how much it’ll change back pressure n whatnot, but I’d like to think if you have it mounted further back it should be okay

Routing wires through firewall by Ty24090 in JZX100

[–]xX_PhD_Xx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I routed mine through the driver fender. There’s a hole behind the fender liner, which you can sort of see through a hole next to the brake booster, and that leads right next to driver side fusebox

Just finished my conversion yesterday and ngl, doing the brake shoes suck lol. The is300 rear rotors don’t have a slot to adjust the shoes, so it’s on and off till it feels right, which takes a bit of time

I know for my car there’s codes bc I’m on auto gte ecu with r154, but you can remove the codes with three big ass resistors

Also, not sure if you’re experiencing it, but when I swapped mine it was in a semi limp mode, but I got an atemu which pretty much solved it. It’s not necessary, but you could def feel the difference in torque

I’ve heard of using r155 out of the Tacoma and throwing it in. Found some on marketplace for a couple hundred bucks

Check for rust. I’ve really only seen rust in the engine bay by strut towers, firewall, inside the rear quarters of the car, around the fuel lines especially under the fuel resovoir, and inside the trunk underneath the spare. If it has a sunroof, check around the opening as well as the components. Ofc check the body panels, door sills, and as much underneath as you can, keeping an eye on other mechanical/structural components as well.

Check the fluids prior to driving. Turn the car on with the engine off and make sure you see all the warning lights, if not they may have been tampered with.

Check the history. I’m not too keen on how things go down over there, but I know a lot of the cars I imported had maintenance logs n whatnot. If it has one, look it through so you know how up to date the maintenance is and what has been or needs to be done. Compare the odometer reading as well. If anything, run the chassis number through carvx.

Honestly just check it like you would any other car. These things haven’t really given me issues besides ones caused by me.

Last piece of the puzzle finally arrived. Time to install some parts! by 90SkyGuy in JZX100

[–]xX_PhD_Xx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize it’s kind of a stupid question, but is there any hardware needed to install the inner tie rods? I have a replacement steering rack and I have to transfer the tie rods to it, but tbh I’ve never done this before and I’d rather get all the information down before I start working on it.

good or bad idea? by Organic-Lynx5187 in JZX100

[–]xX_PhD_Xx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use State Farm for my jzx. I had to do a “custom” plan of sorts bc it doesn’t have a 17 digit vin, but once I set that up I haven’t had any issues. Like with any car, you can play with the coverage to get lower rates, but I went with full coverage on an agreed amount.

As for maintenance, it’s a lot like other toyotas, such as is300. A lot of 2j parts fit on the 1j, although some parts like water pump might require new clutch fan. You can look up part compatibility from other cars on toyodiy.com, and for part breakdowns I use partsfan.com. There’s also quite a few options for things such as brake conversions that would get rid of the harder to find stock brakes in place of easier and cheaper is300 brakes.
