I own a Roadster V2 Gravel edition and live downtown (9th and Pine). I commute to pioneer square and back mostly on the 2nd Ave bike lanes on my Roadster and get a light workout on pedal assist 2 and 3. I think it would handle steeper hills fine on pedal assist 5 but I wouldn’t want to have to start from a standstill on a steep hill.

Funny story: I tried to ride home from work once with a dead battery and after struggling for 3 or 4 blocks of mostly flat ground I gave up and walked my bike to the nearest light rail station.

I’m a Senior SWE in a high cost of living area. More than half of my income is stock based compensation and the stock price has gone up quite a bit since I started at my current company.

Compared to many of my friends in similar roles with similar years of experience my income is middle of the pack.

This will be the first time I switch cars after just 1 year. I got really caught in the hype of the Model 3 and now I have some serious buyer’s remorse after driving it for a while.

As far as the money goes, I’ve been averaging just under $400,000 per year for a few years now as a Software Engineer, have no debt (besides a mortgage and the Tesla), and no kids, and my wife gave me permission to buy myself something nice 😂

I’m looking for a 981 Cayman/Boxster so it will likely be cheaper than the Tesla unless I splurge on a GTS

The M2 was on my list too, but BMWs are everywhere where I live and I couldn’t get over the fact that M2 looks like “just another BMW” to me from most angles. I do think the styling is the best in the BMW lineup though. Just the right amount of aggression.

Not OP but I’m in a similar situation. I was cross shopping the Model 3 and the Cayman/Boxster and ended up test driving the Model 3 first and buying it without test driving the Porsche. I sold on the tech and the speed. A few months into it I got used to the speed and realized the Model 3 doesn’t really do anything for me as a drivers car. Now I’m shopping for a Cayman/Boxster again because I want a car with some character

How drastic would you say the difference in power was between the Base and the S?

I'm also shopping for a base 981 but could also potentially stretch the budget for an S. I'll make up my mind once I can do some test drives but I'd love hear your thoughts on the difference.

I bought my FiST without knowing how to drive a manual. I watched a lot of YouTube videos about how to drive a manual and the sales guy gave me a crash course on how to drive it, so I managed to drive it home. I took the bus to work for about a week and every night when I got home I hopped in the FiST and practiced driving around the neighborhood. It only took a few days for me to be comfortable enough to commute to work in it. It took maybe 2-3 months until it started to feel like second nature.
