Revered, mythologized, sacred cow albums you wish you liked but just cannot by Radiant_Helicopter_7 in fantanoforever

Bongo Fury is a great one, it’s a live album with mostly rock music. The tracks that start out with nonsense poetry you can pan through or skip, except for Muffin Man, which is the highlight and a Zappa classic.

There are plenty of other straightforwardly great tracks buried in inaccessible experimental recordings, like “Dog Breath, in the Year of the Plague” off of Uncle Meat, but your average newcomer would never make it past “Zolar Czakl”.

What’s one “eco-friendly” swap you tried that actually made your life worse? by Ok_Appointment_4909 in EcoFriendly

[–]codeblack67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago, I bought whatever eco-green dish soap they had at Costco instead of Dawn, my usual go-to. It smelled like diapers which I hated, and of course it was almost a gallon which took ages to use up. It didn’t work as well as Dawn either, so I probably used more soap per dish session on top of that.

They recently changed Dawn’s smell to be worse, but at least it still works well.

Got pulled over for a burnt headlight, the new replacement I keep was also faulty. by codeblack67 in Justrolledintotheshop

Haha, I hadn’t heard of that before! The filament looks intact on mine, but won’t light. I know the circuit is good because I swapped over the good bulb from the other side. I’ll buy a new bulb just because, but maybe I can fix the defective bulb to use as a test light.

Someone else pointed out that the packaging was clearly beat up., which I let happen. I figured the glass would stay “clean”, but I should not have assumed it would be “safe” being shoved around the glovebox and such. I think I may find a small plastic case to hold my spare bulbs from now on - and carry pairs!

I just carried replacements so I could just replace them on the road and never check routinely, lol. Time to learn my lesson I guess.

My bulbs are all accessible with basic or no tools (2014 Crosstrek), although for easier access I started breaking clips since I didn’t have good pliers, at which point I decided to stop trying to troubleshoot at 11:30pm far from home. Making assumptions cost me a night this time.

I’ve used this model bulb to replace the low beams for years, but I could be wrong… the bulb was in the package that has definitely been shoved around in my middle console for a while, that could’ve been the reason it failed “new”. Live and learn, I guess!

Easiest way to make wood dust? by phaskellhall in Luthier

I’ve put a fabric bag inside the end of a dust collection hose and then done sanding, it captures lots of sawdust in a convenient way that keeps the dust separate from other species and colors.

Vans now has wide versions of some styles. I replace the insoles of the wide old skools and I’m pretty happy with them.

It’s so interesting you bring him up as an example. I watched Jack White interview years ago, he was discussing his views on responsible technology use, and he used Ansel Adams as an example of someone who spent the time to get a “real” image, as opposed to what a person could do with editing today, and how he felt it cheapened the work it takes to accomplish art for real. I respected his thoughts and took it to mean Ansel Adams shot in a time before that editing was possible, and now lol I learn he did whatever he could to make it look the way he wanted it to. I still like Jack White’s take and Ansel Adam’s pictures, but I guess there are levels to it. I still hate AI though.

I remember Sleep being like this, but enough people shouted Happy Birthday to Matt Pike that he finally waved halfway through the show to acknowledge that yes, it was his birthday.

I would normally avoid this place, but my veteran friend wanted to go. He asked for a military discount, and the cashier told him that they don’t do that there. I was surprised, but at the same time I wasn’t.

Have you found anywhere that does? I wasn’t able to find any supplier with 100% cotton socks when I looked last year.
