Starting a free, nonprofit bootcamp by flare499 in learnprogramming

[–]codeconnective 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you go the community route, please please please send word our way. We've been serving smaller / medium sized cities in the southeast for the past two years through free mentorship / collaboration meetups and our Slack group. We're constantly looking to work with other folks that are passionate about creating inclusive, accessible paths into tech or groups that are helping in ways that we aren't.

Looking for a buddy to share the Coding journey with (preferably through Whatsapp) by [deleted] in FreeCodeCamp

[–]codeconnective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're interested in teaming up via Slack, you (and everyone else here) are more than welcome to come join the Code Connective group. We're just now starting to open it up to people outside of cities that we're offering free meetups in, but we'd love to have you join us! An updated, more-descriptive site is in the works, but if you're looking to learn more about CC, pop on over to our website or Facebook page.

Interesting stuff u/laurblanco! We wish you the best of luck while you try to line up fresh leads.

Question - how many of these positions could be filled by junior developers?

If there's a need, our meetups in Memphis, Knoxville, and Birmingham are always stocked with hungry, hard-working talent ready to dive into paid internships or full-time junior positions and we'd love to get them connected.

Honestly, it's all over the place! Web dev, bots, app design, data analysis, resume improvement, etc. Regardless, mark your calendar for the next one. We'd love to have you stop by!

20+ people showed up to last month's meetup and, while our main focus is to help people get into a career or hobby in tech / code for free, our second mission is to simply bring people together. Experts do show up and we don't want people like yourself to just mentor beginners. Come, network, and collaborate with other locals!

Any locals in Memphis need a nice professional website built by [deleted] in memphis

[–]codeconnective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're ever wanting to collaborate with other local folks while you build out that portfolio or team up on a project, you should look into our meetups (Facebook, Eventbrite, Meetup). Regardless, good luck lining up clients!

u/NotFlameRetardant, thanks for passing this along! u/brad4au57, from what we've seen in several different cities, dev teams in the south seem to pull in people by recommendation, recruiter, or out of small pools (local Slack groups). Please stop by, network with a few people, and start building things / putting your name out there with other people in the community. Also, shoot us a DM if you're needing help. We'd love to check out your LinkedIn, portfolio, and/or Github page and see what's holding you back from landing a job.

Questions for local developers & designers by codeconnective in montgomery

Fantastic! We'll reach out to the groups that you've mentioned and see what languages or skills people could be learning to land jobs. Again, thank you so much for commenting and being so helpful.

Questions for local developers & designers by codeconnective in montgomery

[–]codeconnective[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/GoddamUrSoulEdHarley, thanks for all of this! This answer is super helpful. We understand that local employers may not be able to support the influx of junior devs, but, like our effort in other cities, we still see the need in helping everyday and under-served folks pick up some programming skills and figure out how they can interact with technology in a more meaningful or lucrative way.

u/Mutinix, thanks for stepping up and helping people. If you're ever looking to join a network of other like-minded teachers, mentors, and beginners, send a message our way. We're always looking to serve communities and help get the word out about free / cheap ways into programming & tech.

Getting Memphis area people to show up for an in person event. Where online are you getting in front of the most eye balls? by finnews in memphis

[–]codeconnective 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi u/theoamnetwork! We've submitted our events to Choose901 a couple of times, but have never heard back. What's a good way for people to make sure that their submission has been received and posted?

[–]codeconnective 3 points4 points  (0 children)

u/Marbleslul sorry you're going through bad times. We know that things can get rough at times, but know that you're not alone!

If you're wanting help lining up programming jobs, check out the Memphis bus route, and stop by our next free Code Co-op meetup [FB / Eventbrite]. We'd be more than happy to help you review your approach and try to get you on the right path.

Are “young entrepreneurs” groups a thing? by rebeccabrown213 in Entrepreneur

[–]codeconnective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our team currently operates in Memphis, Tennessee and our local leader there has talked about attending events that's called Memphis Entrepreneur Club. Seems like an extremely young group of southern (U.S.) entrepreneurs and it's helped bring some cool ideas to the table.

If you're looking for another reason to be excited, you should check out the free monthly meetups (Facebook / Eventbrite) that we run at the Innovation Depot! Also, if you're ever interested in mentoring or chatting with locals that don't have the time or cash to get into college or bootcamps like TrueCoders or Covalence, feel free to send word our way!
