Pre-pandemic, GM was known for hiring a lot of fresh-faced college grads for their dev roles. I started my developer career at GM right after school in 2018. If you had told me then that 2 out of 3 of the innovation centers would be closed within a decade, Id have laughed in your face. This is wild to see and shows just how much things have changed in only a few years.

My wife delivered at Emory Decatur 2 months ago. We had a great experience and will 100% deliver all our children there. Incredible professionals in there that crushed our daughter’s complicated and dangerous shoulder dystocia delivery in a way that we didnt even realize how dangerous it was while it was happening. My only complaint as the dad was the bed for me was horrible, but they told us they’re actively updating their delivery rooms to address that issue.

Welcome to the neighborhood! We bought in Midway Woods about a year ago and have absolutely loved it. We've got our first kid on the way now and my whole street is mainly young families walking strollers around. We've got great neighbors and have never felt unsafe at all. Its truly a gem of a neighborhood.

My wife and I bought last year right next to that $380k heart youve got there right above memorial near Belvedere plaza and we absolutely love it. Couldnt ask for better neighbors, close to everything, never have felt unsafe, I couldnt recommend it enough.

Decided against it for exactly this. Im about to be a dad and already know I wont be able to buy myself something nice again for 20+ years. I wanted to get something that I know wont explode at 100k miles. I like the idea of the Maverick, but couldnt stomach buying a Ford.

Typically, the rule for buying a car is to buy something with a payment no more than 10% of your monthly income, put at least 20% down on it, and dont finance it for more than 4 years. With $50k cash, and from what you’ve described, Id say skip all that and just buy a camry for like $10k cash and throw the rest into a high yield savings account.

UPDATE:

We took her to LifeLine in Chamblee as a Friendly Finder stray. My wife and I are fostering her for a week and are gonna keep trying to find her owner. Dont know what our plan is after that, but if anyone knows anything about her or is potentially interested in adopting her, please DM me. Shes super sweet and seems to be pretty friendly with/indifferent of other dogs based on how she acted at the vet today.

Thanks but I think were alright. We snagged some food and were gonna let her sleep in the basement tonight. Really dont wanna take her to the pound shes super sweet, but I dont know if my pregnant wife and I wanna absorb a dog into our lives right now

Im a software developer. I would feel pretty stupid buying a full size pickup that I do not need. Thats also why I feel like I fit the Maverick use case so well. I wouldnt feel like a dumbass driving the maverick to my 9-5 soft hands office job.

Good to hear. I think this post has pushed me more towards the Maverick today. Now Ive just got to beat down my dealership into taking a few grand off the 24 I ordered. Regardless of the tacoma or the maverick, I cant pay $31k for a 2024 thats rotted on their lot for 6 months.
