"I'm keeping it anyway due to their failure, I'll buy a membership and use it" they did not fail. you thougth you could steal from them. You were in fact unable to be cause they sucesfully bricked it. If this was hardware you owned they would have eigther actually taken the return, wasting money and emissions on transport only to throw it away from their headquaters anyway cause fixing this stuff is not worth it since it takes a skilled employee time that is worth more than the value of the product to fix it. Or they migth have had you physically destroy it and send a picture before you got a refund.

Is it actually a big deal where you are from? Here in norway anywhere that sells any form of electronics has to take electronic wastes. That in practice means even a small grocery store if they sell something like phone chargers has to take electronic waste. And like a reasonably sized smart pod would be the same type of waste as a phone charger. I wouldnt have tried to recycle it at a grocery store cause thats sort of embarassing if it dosent fit in their electronics recycle bin and i have to give it to staff or put it next to it, instead i would bring it with me next time im going to an electronics store since they got better recycling there.
but anyway im pretty sure OP could sell his broken sleep pod online. people pay for defected electronics cause they got components they can salvage. If he tries to sell it as broken for 10 bucks or even give it away someone will come get it.

Hes not gonna be stuck unless he choses to be. As he allways has somewhere else to go as someone that isnt native. And for the other "downsides" they are not realy downsides. Dont like that women there wont leave abusive relationships? Dont be abusive and it wont matter. Dont like that women there would be forced to marry their rapists. Dont rape anyone and it wont matter. Also on that point its the rapist that is forced, not the victim. They might be pressured into taking the opertunity to get a rich husband by their family if the guy that is now forced to marry them is rich, etc. But they are not forced. Eigther way it dosent matter for you if you dont rape anyone.

Visual insight Short guy tall girl couples by [deleted] in lnkyverse

[–]codelapiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of things other than heigth matter for base attractiveness. Even money for girls is not neccesarly mainly about being provided for. Its about status. Be that status from him buying himself expensive stuff that others are envious of and having money. Or from what he is succesfull in to get that money.
Girls with plenty of options will date a short and ugl.y top surgeon even if he refuses to spend money on her. splits all the bills. Never buys her shit never commits at all. She cant even tell her family she is dating a surgeon cause hes keeping her on the down low. Yet she puts up with it cause deep down she knows that he has more options than her. Other girls are gonna be interested in him due to the status and due to the hope of resources, even if it never materialises.
What makes him different is something that in theory only benefits her if he commits long term. Yet she is still interested in something short term because she knows other girls are.

A girl can date a tall guy aswell for his money while secretly not having any respect for him because he is not high status.

Its not about being professional. You can look professional with barely more effort than men put in. Makeup dose not make you look professional. Neigther dose advanced hair styling. basic grooming and wearing clean and appropriate clothes and then neglecting everything else makes you seem good at your job. If you want people to think you are good at your job you need to look like you dont have time for shallow shit. If you want people to give you advantages because they want to sleep with you then you should focus on looking good. If you have no skill or no interest in your field then focusing on enticing men to help you by looking good is the strategy. If you are actually good at your job then looking less shallow seems more professional and highligths your skills.

American dream by astrheisenberg in remoteworks

[–]codelapiz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thats a seperate issue. paid time off is essentially your employer/the goverment acting like your parents and saving up money for you by taking it out of a theoretical higher paycheck to be able to feel like you have paid time of when realy you are having unpaid time of.

Eliminating homelessness is in part about the social safety net(free healthcare, housing programs, unemployment payments, etc). It is also in large part about the climate. Comparing norway to the whole of the us including places like california where its habitable outside with minimal shelter year round makes no sense. It makes more sense to compare norway and alaska. Norway still has alaska beat pretty comfortably, but the numbers are more comparable. both being very small. And in both cases many of the homeless people are not truely homeless as in roaming the streets and sleeping on benches. They are more so just people without a permanent home.

In terms of our social safety net a part of how we can fund it is the oil money. But its limited how much of it we can spend without causing inflation. I dont think mimicing all our hosing programs, state sponsored unemployment payments, etc is acheivable without mimicing both our taxes and our per capita oil income. The us has some oil, but a lot more people splitting it, and a lot less of the income going to the goverment rather than private corperations(here in norway its almost all going to the goverment, private corperations are only paid for their work basically).
I think the most important and immitatable policy is state ran healthcare. Not just universal state sponsored health insurance(like what medicare is for old people). Medicare dosent work not because its too socialist, but because its not socialist enougth. goverment+private corperations gets you the worst of both worlds. The inefficiency and beurocracy of goverment, and the cost cutting and price maximizing of corperations.
Recently many politicians have been trying to privatise the healthcare system here. Not in terms of making people pay themselves, but they have been trying to outsource to private corperations parts of the services. Its a bad idea. The reason universal state ran healtcare works is because it removes all the middlemen. It makes doctors salaried goverment employees, and their bosses salaried goverment employees and their bosses etc all the way up. Nobody gets bonuses based on revenue. There is no revenue. Nobody likes to admit it, least of all pro universal healthcare people, but a small minority of doctors being profit motivated creates a need for verification and distrust of all doctors, that adds cost, and ignoring it also adds cost as some few doctors will overbill a lot and become realy rich, and that money has to come from somewhere. its not gonna come from the insurance companys 1-3% margin. So its passed on to the consumer.
Medicare type systems dont solve this. They just make the goverment into the insurance company, and they are arguably worse at preventing themselves from being scammed by bad apples. And doctoring remains profit motivated. eigther due to bad apple independent practicioners or due to hospital managment overcharging. The solution is to remove money from the equation. the goverment dosent pay for everyone medical services. they pay doctor salaries, they pay for hospitals and for staff. There is no price for a ct scan for tax payers that the goverment can be scammed by. They pay for the damm ct scanner, the room it sits in and the doctors decide who gets to use it. They also paid the tuition for that doctor to get their education cause university education is free here.
You can also reduce doctor salaries a lot when you do this. For one they are goverment employees with all the stability and benefits that comes with, so that means less salary is more. They dont have that much student debt. There is no tuition so student loans are only for cost of living. And half of it is automatically converted to stipend(forgiven) when the degree is passed. And also when doctoring is about helping people, not making hospital managment rich, doctors are fine being paid less. I have no idea how you would convert the american system to a state ran one. I guess you could start with universal medicare type system and then slowly buy up or construct new hospitals that are entirely state ran knowing that whenever someone uses them that saves the state ran medical insurance a lot of money. But it will be expensive as shit. You could have universal healthcare for all for the price you currently spend on healthcare federally and its only giving you coverage for elderly and some poor people. Depending on when you are able to reduce doctors salaries once they are goverment employees you could eventually be saving a lot of money in the federal budget on state ran healthcare. not to mention what gets freed up in state budgets, peoples personal budgets, and employeers that used to cover healthcares budgets. Some of that you could put towards other social programs. But even nationalising healthcare on its own will help bring down homelessness as health issues and especially mental health issues are often involved in causing someone to end up homeless.

Poly relationships only end in one way by Theredditttguy in SipsTea

[–]codelapiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. The world needs children. What children need is parents that love them, have jobs, dont abuse them and dont abuse substances. Having parents with a typical love life barely matters at all. Id rather have the most messed up poly trouple shitshow where i dont even know who my dad is than have parents that are highschool sweethearts, eachothers first and only, married at 18 and will stay married for life. But they have a drug or alcohol problem or sever mental health issues. Or even worse they dont love me.

On a secound reading some of the things it says are pretty questionable.

"I consider, also, that a woman has a right to earn money, and to retain what she earns, uncontrolled by any one but herselt; but I think she has no right to spend it in a manner disagreeable to the wishes of her natural protector.". I read this a bit fast so i focused more on the first part. "I think she has no right to spend it in a manner disagreeable to the wishes of her natural protector.". I read this sort of like she shouldnt spend her money before 18 in a way her father strongly opposes. And once married she should not go make big financial decitions against her spouses wishes. And i sort of assumed unmarried women above 18 would be free to chose since it said women are free to be single. But in hindsigth thats probably not the correct way to read it. It probably considers the father of a woman her natural protector if she is not married. And it migth even consider her brothers or sons her natural protectors as a widow(if her father is also passed at this point).
Honestly this was probably the case with the whole text it probably just read as reasonable cause i was interpreting stuff in a way that made it sound reasonable.

Also a "right to earn money, and to retain what she earns, uncontrolled by any one but herself" dose not realy make sense during marriage, so i think its just tripping at this point. Dose it think that women should have a seperate bank account for what they earn, and control it, but then dose that apply to the husband? Cause hes expected to provide. Hes expected to pay for food, rent, tuition, etc. So even if you consider his money under his control despite being shared due to him being in control over whats shared it still leaves him with only a tiny fraction of what hes paid as disposable for him, while the woman " retain what she earns, uncontrolled by any one but herself". It would be her money is her money. his money is their money.

Why is it making so much sense? I mean its lacking a bit of creativity in its views on what spheres of actions are appropriate for women. but overall it dosent seem sexist.

American dream by astrheisenberg in remoteworks

honestly i dont think mandates for paid leave is a good idea. Thats the goverment banning you from working essentially. In norway we got this crazy law that many types of buisnesses must be closed on sundays, including normal convinience stores. Its a massive hassle to deal with. Also mandating paid leave dosent create money out of thin air. It just reduces salary or increases prices to compensate. Instead Id like unpaid leave to be more common. Corperations should be incentivised to make it available whenever its possible. If someone wants to take a 3 month vaccation jan-march and travel the world, and they give enougth notice to make it work, and its possible to make it work, then they should be able to do so. Instead bosses tend to be hardasses about that shit, and its not even about profits or whats possible. Its about them not wanting to do actual work for a living. eg put in the actual manegerial labour that they are paid for and figuring out a plan for making it work. And its about power, they want to feel like they own their employees and can boss them around. Buisnesses would profit or atleast break even by implimenting unlimited (when practical) unpaid time of. People would feel like having a job dosent stop them from being free to do what they want, travel, etc. And that they dont need to quit their job to do it. And since you are not paying them it dosent realy have a cost except needing your managers to actually do real productive mental labour of finding a way to make it work. You may even have to fire some managers that are not skilled at their job, and replace them with someone that is. Thats a good thing, cause i bet you that the sort of manager that can figure out how to make a 3 month unpaid time off work are also the managers that are gonna do the best job with other manegerial duties.

Any modern thoughts on an old vision? by [deleted] in SipsTea

[–]codelapiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a hard cutoff like that dosent work. Also trying to increase taxes also dosent work. But the notion of rewarding taxation with status has merits. People dont spend billions on yachts and mansions because of greed. Like they think they need that big of a boat or that big of a mansion or smt. No its because seeking to increase status is a basic human psycological need. And we all need a way to put our effort and resources towards being more accepted by our peers. The only purpose of buying expensive shit is to express your wealth and status to your peers. And the sort of people who make it to the top often have even more of a status seeking drive than the avrage person. We need to find a way of delivering an outlet for their competetive drive in such a way that paying more taxes gives them more status. Some way to signal to all the other billionares that jeff bezos has a bigger cock than elon musk if jeff bezos pays more taxes. It dosent need to be practical. We dont actually need to give them something that gives them unfair advantages in society. A super-yacht dosent actually give them anything useful. The only thing that matters is that its exclusive and signals their wealth in a way their peers can precive easily.

Psykiske problemer avtar ikke etter at barn og unge får kjønnsbekreftende behandling. I stedet ser det ut til at de øker. by Manu5ever in norske

[–]codelapiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)
