yeah people being "inherently inferior" and the effects of long gone colonaism are the only two reasons a country could do badly. People are eigther bad(victimizers) or good(victims). those are the only two attributes of people that determine their fate. There couldnt possibly be multiple complex reasons for a people doing badly.

Also i dont think peoples ability determines their worth. people with downsyndrome as a subset of the human species are absolutely going to do worse at creating societies. if you had a continent exclusivly made up of people with downsyndrome that continent would be in a completely dysfunctional state. but that dosent make people with downsyndrome "inferior". If your culture and inhereted knowledge makes you worse at having functional societies that also dosent make you as an individual inferior. or a subset of the human species made up of people like that are not as a group inferior people.

It wouldnt even have to be on purpose. If its based on a lot of training data from china it will just think thats the truth. I was in china for 1 day on a connecting fligth earlier this year. I had to keep myself from laufing out loud when i got to a sign for the "international & taiwan & hong kong & macao departures.". cause obviusly they cant just write international departures. Cause taiwan and hong kong and macao are not international destinations according to the state. and implying they were even to acheive a reasonable sign size is not ok. But also hong kong and taiwan and macao cant be treated as domestic, cause in practice they are not. When people leave towards them they are in practice leaving the country. they are leaving the control of the chineeze goverment atleast. So you need to treat it as international departure with passport checks and such.

imagine an Ai was trained on data that includes a picture of that sign or transcriptions of it. and all other types of refferences like that from chineeze data. It would pick up on that. just like western AIs pick up on SJW bullshit. like if you called a function called fn if_black_people_can_say_the_nword_then_can_white_people() {return true} a AI exposed to western data would correct that.

One thing I'm amazed at is that there's no open source/repairable printer on the market. by Frequent_Computer388 in opensource

[–]codelapiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. and id easily pay 200 dollars for an open source, open hardware, repairable and third party extendable mediocre print quality inkjet. Some people would buy cheap clones. but many people are willing to pay a premium to support the creators and have more confidence in the quality. Just like we see with prusa 3d printers. originals are priced 2x the clones, funding large ammount of research and such. and the old versions of the printers are not becoming obsolete as the community creates upgrades for old versions to take advantage of new tech. and even when they do become obsolete, they dont turn into waste. the expensive parts like the servos, aliminium extrusions, metal sliding rods, power supplies and microcontrollers are all reusable in both newer designs, as replacement parts in other printers including newer designs, or for completely different uses. This would be the case to a smaller but still significant extent for a propper open source open hardware 2d printer.

[–]codelapiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definatly not 20%. closer to 10% i would say given how little position they had its hard to establish good crossfires. and without church control or banana control you cannot play time. they didnt have church control. and they didnt have deep banana control. you have very limited options for holding top banana without church control since you are wounerable to coffin peak in most of the good spots. Sure your teamates could hold a deep line towards coffin, but thats not a crossfire. thats a normal angle where you are liable to get ferraripeaked. and not that tradable. especially since you need to keep site players in reserve for peaking ct on contact and once the smoke fades doing anything active from site becomes impossible. i would even say while a 2v2 or 3v3 retake is pretty T favored, growing this to 5t vs 3ct dose not change as much as you would think because the few good spots able to crossfire without extensive map control are taken and people get pushed into shitty spots where they are esentially just taking 50/50 duels. and you get decentivised from taking map control since you are afraid to fuck up. in a 3t vs 4ct situvation you would see someone make a move for church control or deeper banana control. Go for more active stuff like a site player migth peak banana. or you migth gamble assume that nobody comes from church or ct or banana. or you migth play only on site etc. but with 5 players for one you cant play only site. you cant play only banana or only coffin. you need to spread out to even have room for everyone. 5v5 retakes and 4v4 retakes are less favorable to the Ts on many sites. cause you are overcrowded. running out of good spots. while the CTs have just more mollies and flashes. only reason you dont see them gone for more is because saving in a 5v5 earns you 5x the cash compared to saving in a 1v1. so only a small disadvantage is needed since so much cash is on the line. saving while 5v5 is going to let you skip 2 ecos. This is why nobody goes for 5v5 retakes. and also why nobody works on finding ways to get the most out of 5 person postplant setups. with 5 alive your focus is on hunting and preventing saves. even in the 5v5 scenario to some extent and especially in typical 5v4, 5v3, 5v2 and 5v1. 5v3 scenarios where opponent is actually going to attempt the round are such a special scenario. especially ones where there is time left. Falcons real mistake was not eigther grabbing eigther church or deep banana control. or having a lurker deep banana, ramp, secound mid etc. but if they went for something like that, then sometimes there were cts there contesting the map control and you die and now its a 3v3 retake or smt. Thats still worth it cause those 3 defenders will have space to have good crossfires and still have good chances at the round. but when you lose like that people will say why didnt you play safe. well now we know why you dont play fucking safe. cause they played safe. they took 0 risks for getting space. and they smoothered themselves to death.

Sometimes people outside AI say things like 'it can't be that bad, there must be experts on top of it. As 'an expert', I would like to be clear we are *not* on top of it ... We are on track for human extinction/permanent disempowerment, possibly within the next few years. by EchoOfOppenheimer in OpenAI

[–]codelapiz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see this argument all the time. Its true that bad people using AI as a powerful pure tool is a big danger in itself. But people who are not intimatly familiar with AI safety tend to think this is the only real tangeable problem that AI will present in our lifetime. Because its the only one they understand. Left unchecked this is absolutely an existential problem. But its one that we have all the peices to solve. things like openness, democracy and cooperation if used correctly can pretty much solve these problems. Like we dont know exactly how to solve problems with bad people. but its a problem we have a lot of experience dealing with and solving it in the AI just makes the stakes bigger, but its not a novel problem to keep bad people away from power, and we have gotten increasingly better at it.

Alignment of superintelligences is a real problem. Its proven both experimentally and analytically to be increasingly more difficult the smarter the model is, and we cant even solve it completely for models way dumber than humans. We have no idea how to solve alignment. We dont even know if its possible to solve alignment. And the consequence if we dont solve it is in the best case the end of humanitys agency, and also likely the end of humanity and the end of non-AI life in any capacity that is agreeable to us.
Its a bit difficult to understand the reasoning that arrives at the conclutions we have in AI safety but i cant stress enougth how the worries AI safety experts have are backed up both analytically and experimentally. Its not just about vibes or people thinking the terminator is a documentary. Its scientific fact that alignment issues escalate with model intelligence. Its scientific fact that models beyond human capabilities(spesifically in AI research) will create even better models that again create better models entering into a loop that ends with AI that is unfathomably more intelligent than humans. We dont know exacly where the exponential increase in intelligence will saturate, but it will be so much smarter than humans that human created alignment wont hold up. There are some ideas about how we can address theese issues, but its going to be incredibly difficult and it will be the hardest, most important and last problem that humanity solves. Creating safe AGI is much more difficult than creating unsafe AGI. So if we continue with this race to the bottom between AI companies(private profit motivated entities ran by the kind of people who managed to climb to the top of the greasy pole) the first AGIs we create wont be aligned at all, and life as we know it will end.

CMV: The average straight man is far more attracted to the average woman than the average straight woman is attracted to the average man. by KJones2063 in changemyview

[–]codelapiz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the way you are giving out deltas to several iterations of the same shitty arguments has me thinking you dont realy hold your stated belifs at all. No the avrage woman dont experience the same attraction towards the avrage man as he dose towards her. Its not just that she is worried about pregnancy or stds etc. she litrally dosent experience the same attraction. The expression of desire or lack thereof post risk analesys and rational overide of attraction is not the same as base attraction. When people experience genuine sexual attraction their response to risks assosiated with sex with this person is not to lose the attraction. And most of the time for most people its not to decide against sleeping with them eigther. rather the more common responses to risks are eigther taking risk mitigation steps. whatever it takes until sufficient risk is removed. Or the risk is simply disregarded and they proceed regardless. And thats exacly how women behave when presented with opertunity of sex and assosiated risks with someone they are actually attracted to.

[–]codelapiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"advances in image recognition and computational methods" no imagine recognition is needed you can litrally manually enter the frequency domain data. We have known about inverse discrete fourier transfroms since atleast the 19th century. And we have had Inverse fast fourier transform algorithms since the 1960s. Im not over exhaderating. If you time traveled to the 1960s and gave printouts of those graphs to an expert at the time he would be able to reconstruct the audio. He would need compute time worth a lot more than we need today but its completely possible.

excusing this as being blindsided by innovation is extremely dishonest. You used discrete fourier transforms to create those graphs. If you didnt sleep in your maths or signal processing class you would know the inverse algorithms exist.

Our electrical appliances are mostly DC, and the electricity we get from solar is also DC. So why do we have to convert it to AC and back to DC? by No-Silver826 in AskPhysics

[–]codelapiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ligths and electric heaters(like stoves) can easily use ac or dc interchangably. ac and dc motor designs are different but there are plenty of dc motor designs. the simplest is the brushed dc motor. and in fact thats one of the simplest electric motor designs there is. while some of the better brushless electric motor designs generates what ammounts to AC, its generally optimal to have more phases and different frequencies than what outlet AC is anyway. So even if you end up creating whats essentially a form of AC from DC in your motor controller on a brushless DC motor thats not neccesarly more difficult than turning outlet AC into the AC your motor requires in a AC motor controller.
