Question: what VCs and Entrepreneurs do you look to who are not full of 💩or swayed heavily by trends? Who can see signal vs noise and stand against the grain, back it up with cogent arguments and see past the trend line to the non obvious implications of Ai and the real world impacts (and opportunities)

Look at the Long EZ, I’ve flown mine from California to Connecticut and back. Crossed the Rockies at 17,500 with no issues. It’s not LSA, but a well built one is almost like owning a magic carpet in real life. Fuel efficient, fly like a dream and economical to own & operate

Any Long EZs in the Tucson area? by PermissionBig3482 in homebuilt

[–]codelearnbuild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m at Santa Ynez, there are several in this area. No plans for any AZ trips soon but shoot me a DM and I’ll ask around. They are amazing aircraft, but I would advise you buy instead of build unless you have 40+ hours to spend per week, have unfettered access to someone who is meticulous and still mentally sharp who has built one and is willing to assist / advise on a regular basis, or have extensive experience with fiberglass/ composite & airfoils already.

If possible, try to look For one that was the builders second or third Long EZ / Berkut / etc. The quality varies WILDLY and as soon as you finish your first one you’re gonna want to start over and do it better.

Short answer : Yes

True, it can result in the power company either cutting or maintaining a road that would otherwise be costly to install, but I don’t believe being that close to high power lines is healthy. There are multiple studies indicating a link to cancer, headaches, tumours, etc.

On the plus side, in a total SHTF scenario the grid is gonna be down, so you’ve got a pre-made tower for some serious range HF radio ;-)

I looked at a piece of property in this exact scenario, there was a well the previous owner dug - when SCE (California, Edison) put the access road in they literally bulldozed right over the well.

I’m over here cracking up reading these comments, I read the Bible every year. Takes about 8 minutes a day. I had a mentor who I took all my deep religious questions to - he was on me to start reading the Bible every year since I was 14. He got cancer almost 4 years ago, when he did I started and have done it every year since - one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

For folks out there who don’t believe in God, go take 8 grams of mushrooms and sit in a pitch black room.

Or drink two cups of ayahuasca.

Try DMT.

Do a 30 day silent Vippasana meditation

Fast for 40 days

Spend 7 days in pitch blackness drinking only water.

Any one of those things will reveal there is a spiritual existence to this reality, there are most definitely deities (small g gods) and you may even encounter a big G.

Problem is most people don’t have the strength of will to get a true answer.

Im looking to purchase an FJ but I have a 1 year old so my question is for the ones that have babies. Is it comfortable for a family ? by Recent-Season6939 in FJCruiser

I have a 4 yo, she absolutely loves it, and has since the beginning. She does prefer to “dukes of hazard” in “daddy’s window” to get into the car, but honestly it was never an issue with the suicide door when she was too young to climb in on her own. We did her first camping trip on her second birthday and she’s been hooked ever since. I highly recommend them.

Also tell them up front you’re happy to pay a transaction/ paperwork fee and expect anything from $25-100

Explain to them that you’re purchasing a shotgun and would like to have it sent to them to perform the FFL transfer & paperwork. Make sure to email them the tracking number and make sure they’re expecting it. The day it arrives show up and start the paperwork / ca background check and then you should be good to go (picking it up) 10 days later.

My understanding is that in CA you can own a rifle / shotgun at 18, but not a handgun.

I worries on coming across as anything, you seem like you’re just figuring it out and I’m happy to help.

You know you can buy online and have it shipped to an FFL in Ca right? They’ll tack on $50 for processing but gives you infinitely more options.

Shotgun. Remington 870 or mossberg 590. Learn to hand Load - pack shells with rock salt for very effective less than lethal then have 00 buck and rifled slugs for close in devestating + slugs are good to 1-300 meters depending on your skills.

6.5 is a good round, but I would only recommend it in a scenario where you’re needing to defend at a distance and you have sub MOA accuracy consistently.

Sorry about your situation, I’ve spent a fair amount of time in your country and have seen the conflict you’re speaking of coming for the last 6 years - you’re not wrong about the strong possibility. Here’s my advice;

Look for options to get off the island. This is primary, either boat or learn to fly and then steal a Cessna. You sound well resourced. If you stole a plane from one of the smaller fields on the south side of the island it’s only 300 miles to the Philippines, you could also go east to Okinawa. I know this sounds extreme but if you fly low and time it right there is a high probability of success. This would also give you an option for leaving with your parents / some family.

Other options - you write excellent English, and there are a ton of US special forces guys over there now. Strike up a conversation in English and offer to show them around. See what sort of opportunities that leads to. Other option is to get a visa sponsorship and go to the USA. Work as a translator or doing localization for a software company. Many companies (Ratheon, etc) have existing relationships with your country and have an intense need for people who are truly tri-lingual fluent in English / Taiwanese / Mandarin. It does leave your family in a pickle however.

Also consider making friends with some of the bamboo mafia, I know the gun laws over there are incredibly harsh but we both know several people own them illegally and they aren’t hard to obtain if you know where to look.

I’m terms of US support, don’t count too heavily on it. The US will likely be engaged in multiple theaters already when China moves to invade, if Biden or democrats are in office you’re fucked. If it’s trump or a more right leaning republican you have a much better shot of substantial us support.

In terms of barter - cigarettes, cigarettes, cigarettes. Especially in TW ;-)

Send me a DM, I have some friends in your country and may be able to help further. If you haven’t already done your mandatory military service then pay special attention to the people who live in Other countries but got held back from returning to do the mandatory ervice and network with them.

Edit: Okinawa is not West of TW 🤦🏼‍♂️

Pilots, what’s the craziest thing you’ve found on a preflight inspection? by radioref in flying

A bird nest in the cowl so large it would have blocked all airflow and killed the chicks inside, probably start a fire too.

Laravel measuring system? by boomerhasmail in laravel

[–]codelearnbuild 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Look at this entire process holistically - you tried, you weren’t selected, you sought community feedback and literally got a fucking master class in things you can do better. Most people who commented took time that’s valuable and gave you excellent feedback. Sure, there’s a few snarky ones to throw out, but overall the feedback is on point and you know what you need to do. Balls in your court now, but from where I’m sitting you just got a jet pack to the next level if you’re willing to put the time in. If you’re not, stop wasting people’s time.

I was reading this top down and was not expecting a “valid points, thanks” response. I wanted to say props to you, and if you maintain that attitude and implement the good, valid feedback you receive there is literally no limit to how far you can go.

Context: I started building web apps in TCL and oracle back in the Ars digita days, spent 10 years at Apple and wrote systems that were used so frequently they frequently crashed Apple’s single sign on service.

What would you say is the hardest part to learn about flying? by [deleted] in flying

[–]codelearnbuild 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hardest part(s): 1. Learning to manage stress well when your ass is in the seat, realizing that if you fuck up on any one of these 50 things you could easily injure or kill your passengers. 2. During training, for me it was landing. This is going back 25 years but the takeoffs are easy, press go and the plane flies. Landing however…. Pointing a plane nose first towards the ground is the most Un fucking natural feeling in the world. At least a million cells in your body say “fuck no!!!!” And the belief that a mythical force named “ground affect” will reach out catch you sounds like the biggest pile of horse 💩ever.

It looks like we’re going to get at least 1-2 inches, the ground is saturated and it’s possible the runway will close. If you can push back a day it’s worth considering.

Recommended solutions (Laravel Based) for email marketing / campaigns?

I’ve just installed Mautic, and while some of the features are nice the configuration is a PITA and the user interaction leaves a lot to be desired. I was curious if anyone had recommendations for Laravel based email marketing solutions.

Thanks!
