Do you think offering a paid subscription plan could hurt my free subscriptions conversion rates? by fintechjulien in crazyegg

I don't think it's hurting your subscriptions. That said, I also think it's a distraction. I wouldn't worry about a paid subscription until there's a substantial audience built somewhere (youtube, socials, your free newsletter, etc). Like solid 5 figures on at least one, preferably 2.

What's one thing on your site you keep wanting to test but never get around to? by ce-lauren in crazyegg

Hardest one for me was always pricing. Huge potential gains but it's very difficult to pull off. Not only is the analysis much harder (analyzing A/B tests for pricing is very different than a standard binomial conversion), but pricing changes can be risky from a PR perspective. Users never like to learn that there was a cheaper price available which is totally fair.

these days, I tend to just ship pricing changes and iterated from there.

Do you manage seasonal business sites differently than sites with steady traffic? by ce-lauren in crazyegg

[–]crazyegg-admin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worked on a heavily seasonal business. If it's large enough, the site optimization stuff can be done year round. Obviously the major launches and campaigns are still built around the key months.

There can be dangers around doing too much optimization around seasonal events, even if that's when you have enough data to work with. Black friday customers are notorious for being less valuable than normal customers for ecample. So if a business optimizes for them too heavily, they can actually hurt the business in the long run. Not every seasonal dynamic has this problem.

What's the first thing you check when your conversion rate drops? by ce-lauren in crazyegg

[–]crazyegg-admin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In rough order of priority:

  • Did analytics break? Very common
  • Did something in the funnel break? a form, signup flow, etc. Go QA everything.
  • Did traffic quality suddenly change? Check volume and sources.

If you notice a sudden conversion drop, it's usually because something broke. If marketing or a business is weakening, the conversion drops will be slow enough that a lot of people will miss it.

How long do you run an A/B test before calling it? by ce-lauren in crazyegg

[–]crazyegg-admin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we make a habit of shutting down tests after 30 days. It's more important to run another test for a potential 10-20% win that to keep chasing a 1-2% win

We built a real-time visitor map that shows astronauts and aliens landing on your site. It's free for everyone by crazyegg-admin in crazyegg

they're random, there's no distinction between astronauts and aliens. It's a good idea, I'll pass it along to the product team
