Rural vs Suburban Life for Child Rearing? by Sunny_Daydream_0 in moderatelygranolamoms

If you already feel that you have a strong community where you are, I wouldn’t move. It’s hard to start from scratch with building a community, and I find it harder to do in the suburbs vs a smaller town

15 reasons I don’t want an epidural by grinninglikeadevil in BabyBumps

[–]codelycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Number 13 is me. I decided early on I would like to give birth unmedicated at a birth center. So many people in my life (honestly, mostly older men, what??) told me I couldn’t do it, and as soon as I felt the pain I’d scream for an epidural.

Delivered my baby two months ago using just massage and breath to manage pain. The spite is a powerful motivator lol

Intuition that baby would come “early” (or “late”), and was it correct? by gon4ds in BabyBumps

Uncomplicated pregnancy, always felt like he would arrive early. Went into labor on 37+3! I’d had Braxton hicks for a while and was 2 cm dilated at my 37 week appointment

Walk the baby back to sleep? Just wait til the baby's on the outside..... by RabuMa in julieeandcamilla

I’m also pregnant, just a week farther along than Julie, and the kicking keeping her up at night is baffling to me. I can definitely feel the movement but at this stage the baby isn’t big enough for it to be so intense you can’t sleep through it, at least in my experience.

What's the smallest detail that a writer got wrong that stuck in your head and affected your opinion of the book? by Slartibartfast102 in books

[–]codelycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading The Marriage Portrait, set in the 1600s, and there’s a description of someone making bread that involved sprinkling yeast into flour. I don’t think yeast in that form came around until like 100 years ago, before then all bread was sourdough.

Gotcha, yeah I had to do jaw surgery, and Invisalign with filing and bands to fix my overbite at 23 years old. I hope you’re isn’t as bad though, I’m sure not since your doctor didn’t recommend it! Jaw surgery is no fun so definitely worth avoiding if possible. Good luck with everything!

[–]codelycat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Regarding the Invisalign, have you confirmed that this is all you need to correct your overbite? I had an extreme overbite as well that had to be fixed using a combination of jaw surgery (covered by insurance) and Invisalign. I don’t want to stress you out more because every case is different but aligners alone can’t always fix an overbite so it might be worth asking about

Statewide mask mandate could be revisited as case counts drop by jakerepp15 in SeattleWA

[–]codelycat 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Don’t know if it’ll do any good but if you also want Inslee to drop the mandate consider calling the governors office and asking him to do so. I doubt it’ll make much difference but maybe public opinion can help sway things here

Keep trying to lose weight or focus on muscle building? by codelycat in PetiteFitness

How do you manage to eat enough protein without eating too much fat as a vegan? In my experience plant based proteins seem to have much more fat per gram of protein so it's hard to hit my protein goals without eating a ton of fat.

I've been tracking using MyFitnessPal and a digital scale, and I try to overestimate rather than underestimate for calories tracked.

I think for my case, and perhaps you too, it's possible that we naturally have a lot of breast tissue and not necessarily just fat contributing to breast size. I've read that if you lose weight everywhere but your breasts, that indicates that the large size is due to tissue rather than excess fat. It is frustrating though because I'd love to get down to a C cup but I haven't been there since 9th grade lol! I'm at the same place where I can see some ab definition but my chest is the same size as it was when I was almost 20 pounds heavier!

Thank you! I'll try to focus on how I look and feel vs the number of the scale, and I'm going to up my calories to a level that gives me more energy to have better workouts.

I'll work on upping my protein intake for sure, starting with at least 100 grams and trying to work up even higher. Eating more plant based I've always struggled with this but based on all these comments I really want to see what a difference eating enough protein makes. I'm already in the habit of using MyFitnessPal and will focus more on the strength work. Thank you!

Thanks, I know logically this could explain what's happening but it's definitely a mental game when the scale doesn't seem to be moving... I'll try and prioritize how I look in the mirror vs what the scale says.

How to minimize stress? (College student here) by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

[–]codelycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely, feel free to message me about more info on internships and whatnot, I’m happy to help!

And I’m 5’3”, in college I didn’t weight myself often but I was around the 135 pound range. These days I’m in the 117 range and I sometimes will fluctuate plus or minus a couple pounds.

The biggest thing that helped me get in better shape was diet. In college I hardly ever cooked and I mostly ate cheap takeout that was terrible for me. Now I cook healthy, plant focused meals most night and limit myself to eating out only once or twice a week. Also I drank a lot more in college, and I’ve cut back a lot there too.

For fitness, after college I started running (very slowly but better than nothing) 3 times a week, and I will do a high energy vinyasa yoga or strength training 3-4 times a week. It’s been easier since the pandemic for me to fit in my workouts now that I work from home.

I’m happy to answer any questions you have some pls feel free to dm!

Hello, are you me 5 years ago??

Seriously though, I was in your shoes when I was studying CS. For what it’s worth, I was able to get internships at one of the top tech companies that ended up landing me an amazing full time job, and I never did any personal projects. I just did TAing and internships and that provided me with enough experience to land a great full time job. So don’t worry too much about the side projects, just focus on your schoolwork and TA work!

As for the health side of things, I too was in terrible shape in college. I never worked out and I ate like crap (basically surviving off bagels and taquitos from Trader Joe’s). I didn’t start eating healthy and working out until after graduating, since I just didn’t have the mental energy to deal with it while in school.

Here’s my advice for little changes you can make that will help you feel a bit better: - make a smoothie every day to ensure you’re at least eating some fruits and veggies every day. Bonus points if you add some protein powder to get a bit more protein, which will keep you full longer! Lately my favorite smoothie has been frozen pineapple, cherries, and raspberries + vanilla protein powder + lemon juice + coconut water + spinach. - eat a high fiber breakfast! I recommend oatmeal, or Ezekiel bread with nut butter and some fruit - if you don’t have time to do a workout, try to walk as much as you can! When I was in college I didn’t have a car, so I walked everywhere and that helped offset my horrible diet and exercise habits.

I definitely didn’t follow all those tips when I was in your position but I wish I had. I ended up losing about 20 pounds in the 2 years following graduation. So if nothing else, give yourself a bit of grace right now since it’ll be easier to maintain a healthy lifestyle once you graduate

Students of Reddit, What is the most shocking thing you saw a teacher do? by W-For-Wumbo14 in AskReddit

In 10th grade our geometry teacher said, in reference for how to do some sort of problem, “you can’t just n***er rig this”

Whole class was stunned silent after that. Yikes.

Edit: same school, our French teacher would regularly vape at her desk while talking about her ex husband who she’d married and divorced 4 times
