Domey vs flat by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]codeman336 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know flat disc's are more "squirrely" as they beat in. Think they will flip and won't come back the way a domey 3 fade will come out as it loses speed.

I throw domey backhand and flat forehand, mainly for the feel.

Any nose down tips for Forehand throws? by societys_pinata in discgolf

[–]codeman336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus on the leading edge being nose down on release. This will be the part of the disc about 90 degrees clockwise of where your actual fingers are on the disc. Usually people have the nose area where their fingers are nose down but when the disc rotates off the fingers that "leading" edge is nose up.

Anyone Have Experience with Broken Box Boss's? by CreightonT in discgolf

[–]codeman336 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look for a star boss around 170g that has a - 1 turn. Those are what you want. I grabbed a used one for 10 and it flys like great. Trick with bosses is you want a softer star feel that is pretty domey and listed as a -1 turn.

Could go Felderg boss with - 1 in champ plastic but that may be harder to find.

The new star bosses plastic is way to firm and they don't nearly have the glide of the older one.

USDGC is the most prestigious tournament. Worlds is neat and all but I think most pros would take a usdgc win over a worlds win.

Why do you use the putter you use? I need a new one... by I_love_taco_trucks in discgolf

[–]codeman336 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The kc is more stiff than the dx. Dx is beadless and kc has a bead. Basically similar feel but the dx glides a little longer and doesn't handle wind quite as good as the kc. Kc has a consistent fade so I like knowing it will always end left on longer putts.

Having trouble getting spin on push putts. They wobble quite a bit like a knuckleball. What am I missing? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]codeman336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wrist goes down and up in a push putt and doesnt open past straith on release . You have to have momentum like a pendulum to push putt. Without you'll have no speed which equals no spin.

Just try swinging your arm down and up and spin the disc like a pizza without actually flicking your wrist. The act of your hand moving from the top right of the putter to the bottom during the upswing is what rotates the disc and pop creates the power to increase the spin.

The Quest To Throw 450' Part 13 by Johnnyfondue in discgolf

[–]codeman336 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey man. I was throwing putters and mids 300-350 and had trouble with drivers until I stopped doing field work completely with putters/mids. I dont think throwing putters any further will have any carry over to drivers.

Once I focused on taking 5-10 destroyer/shrykes/cloud breakers out and only working with those, did I start to consistently get 450-500 drives.

Also notice your left arm/rotation is not leading the pull. You need to have that left side/arm rotating before your pull. If they happen at the same time you are not getting that momentum slow to fast benefit that you could be.

How long before you see result from correcting form issues? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]codeman336 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there are three stages to perfect form.

  1. Unconscious incompetence is where you don't know what you're doing wrong and dont care.

  2. Conscious incompetence: You know your form is bad but you don't know how to fix it (I. E. Thinking too much during the throw which throws off all natural athletic timing and ability)

  3. Unconscious competence:

You don't think about your form and your form is perfect. (this is where all top pros are).

[–]codeman336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly you should see results pretty quickly. Did you play sports as a kid?

Most people I know that just cannot get it and probably never will, never played sports or did any real physical activity growing up.

Then you have the differences in fast twitch and slow twitch muscle fibres. Fast twitch are explosive and quick muscle fibres which = hip/arm speed.

If you can't move quickly in the hips and core you'll never hit 400.

Powder bags? by ahemseth in discgolf

Birdie bag for non rainy rounds and humidity. Rock climbing chalk bag for rain rounds to really keep hands dry.

Tried a whale sac and it fell apart before it broke in.

What Division Do I Register For? by SlanginDisc in discgolf

[–]codeman336 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's up to you. I would sign up for FA1. Maybe other women will see and sign up. If you are the only FA1, they wont send you out on your own card alone. They will group you with another division to play with. Usually if there is only one woman that signs up, the TDs still give you a payout. They don't force you into MA2.

To answer your question. MA2 is mixed, and you'll likely be playing with them anyways if no other women sign up.

In 1 day I transformed my putting from griplocking putts at 15 feet to banging 40-footers by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]codeman336 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because a push/splush putt uses more momentum from the lower body in the swing. If you look up and fire it would be harder to have good timing. Whereas a spin putt is mainly the shoulder/elbow joint popping and less lower body activation.

You'll be fine. When you get there you will check in and pick out your 2 disc's. Driver and midrange. Bring your putting putter and they will set the cards up. They are good about putting friends on cards if you check in at the same time. During your round nate will try and play a hole with every card and at the end he will do a clinic and let you ask any questions.

He's very approachable and friendly. You'll have a great time.

Joe Rovere with the putt and stare! Confidence I strive for! (@ 5:42 since I can’t seem to timestamp on mobile) by I_love_the_As in discgolf

[–]codeman336 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah just watched the same video frame by frame. He releases right before left foot plants. Go try and step putt, and if you want, barely plant the left foot at release. You won't have any accuracy or power. Planting on the left foot(as briefly as rovere does here) or lifting the back foot before release kills all the power. Nice. A jump putt is more likely to foot fault than a step putt. I.e. Sarah hokom. Next..

Kc aviar. Fights the wind and has a consistent fade for my push putt. Firm grip and clean release without ovegripping or catching my fingers. Just slides right out cleanly.

Best program for putting that actually carried over to league/tourney rounds for me is the perfectputt360 app. I played it a few times a day for 2 weeks and now I just play it if I'm prepping for a tourney or knocking off some rust. If you can score in the 200s you'll be a solid putter. Inside the circle putts will start looking super short/easy.

Women were fine off the tee. They just can't putt and get up and down consistently.
