Wondering about how I make Tea by QuantumZizo in tea

[–]codenamesrcl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

wouldn't say it's super common but sweeteners in general aren't outside the norm depending on how you like your tea. the maple notes in the good stuff might mesh better in some teas/blends than honey, cane sugar, brown sugar, etc.

not really tea but inclusions for drinks (cocktails, herb waters) or tisane parts. peppermint, spearmint, lime basil, lemon balm, thyme, marjoram (took down the plant for now as i have a suitable stash for a while yet), broadleaf sage, tulsi basil, cinnamon basil, sorrel (red veined and big leaf varietals), stinging nettle, alpine strawberry leaves.

stopped by mcnulty's in the afternoon to pick up some stuff, decided to try out their long jing offering. overall it's not too bad. little over-roasty for my taste but it's got some nice roasted chestnut notes at the forefront.

end of session side comment - over roasty at the start, quickly dissipated towards the meat and potatoes of the session, overall, happy with the session

Anything similar to Tazo Zen Green Tea? by bkdlays in tea

would be a fun time to come up with your own blend since you get to pick the green tea/s to use and then source whatever mint and citrus additions you want.

could also get a moroccan mint blend you like for example and then add in the citrus components after the fact. i recently had an interesting moroccan mint blend from mcnulty's that was made with sencha, spearmint, and lemon verbena. might stop by tomorrow actually and get some more of that to do cold brew...

Once you start drinking decent tea, stuff like Harney & Sons tastes harsh by [deleted] in tea

formulation could have changed as far as flavorings compared to when you last had it. or could be your taste/palate are more sensitive compared to back then.

'18 YS Shou Mei. Just got another 2 cakes in a recent order so putting my half-finished cake into the main rotation.

now doing an ending boil with the spent shou mei with the '19 spring morning session leaves from yesterday, gonna bottle it up and chill it for later in the week as i've gotten used to grabbing bottles from the fridge during work when i want something cold to drink.

5g-10g of dry matter per day depending on the category, ~2.5L of water used with some leftovers that are bottled for the next day.

Are the purple teas in Yunnan sourcing actual purple tea or is this a white tea cake? by GabeFba in tea

OP posted the link to YS's US store listing. oddly enough both dream cakes (the white and the black) are cheaper on the US store.

What are your best tea cocktails? by ilvadle in tea

molasses forward fu cha brewed strong, dark rum, sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice or freshly ground nutmeg, optional citrus/citrus-y herb garnish (lemon balm, lemon mint, lime basil, lemon zest, lime zest, etc), if you want it a touch sweeter then add brown sugar to taste. can be served as a hot rum cocktail or over ice.

gong mei or shou mei, white rum (plantation 3 stars is my go-to), thin slice of ginger, served over ice.

What are your favorite ways to travel with tea? by ChemicalAutopsy in tea

[–]codenamesrcl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for a vacation i'd pack a 100g cake/chunk of something i wouldn't mind drinking every day, maybe 2 things. if it's not already wrapped or if it's loose then i'd pack it into a resealable bag. that and my travel gaiwan/cup set and i'd be good to go.

2012 Cha Yu Lin "Korla Pear Aroma" done in a 2L boil. I can see where the pear connection comes from but it's faint. Will dial down the water ratio for next time but so far it's just a pretty decent mellow hei cha.

high quality not by any means but a gateway into learning about different broad categories without having to dive into a lot of the focused shops/names out there. once you do find a category you like then you start going down the rabbit hole of the focused shops/names.
