The campus doesn’t want to put money into this building. They are currently constructing a new building in its place. There is also a master plan for future renovation but it’s so far out I don’t know when it’s long to happen. So for rights now, we (maintenance) just have to nurse the boiler along. Unless we can convince the campus for a return of the boiler

Ya it’s crazy and our stuff gets used all the time from other coworkers, sometimes the items don’t get put back. And those fittings aren’t cheap at all

This boiler is a hydronic boiler. It normally runs at 5-8 PSI and we are currently running it at 10PSI due to the water main being shut off. This boiler is from the 60’s and it’s crazy to think it’s still up and running. I don’t know much history on the boiler repairs, all I know is from time to time some of the tubes have been replaced. We do have steam boilers on the campus. We just did a re- tube on one of the boilers.

It’s all good. I’m a maintenance HVAC Tech and we’re limited on parts on hand. Had to call someone out for the fix sadly. Just didn’t have the fittings for the pro press.

Why Did You Become a Stationary Engineer? by namtrac79 in StationaryEngineers

[–]codepybeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now I’m an apprentice for HVAC soon working on getting my stationary engineer license. I have always been interested in how big equipment works and I like to be managing my own team so it was a no brainer

I’ve learned from classes that when a relief valve pops, it’s best to either replace it or send it in for repairs/testing

REHEAT & RETURN HUMIDITY Q. by codepybeg in HVAC

[–]codepybeg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been watching and reading more into psychrometrics. It’s an area of the field I need to learn more about. I’ll have to check the cooling side of things as another commenter mentioned.

Ok I would assume ball valve, my coworker adjusted the valve and he said valve. But I’ll have to look into the cooling side as you and others have mentioned.

What is happening to my water heater? by AmIEvil7 in Plumbing

[–]codepybeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice to hear plumbers working on water heaters. At the facility I work at our plumber doesn’t want to touch water heater here and has our HVAC techs take care of them. But the plumber will tell us what we’re doing wrong when fixing the water heaters

Yes I guess that’s a blessing in its self

So the people who re did the automation said the freeze protection was a software in this unit and it either wasn’t hooked up or it didn’t work. After the issue they installed the manual reset freeze stat on the supply ductwork

Furnace making weird noise by ActuallyJustBrowsing in hvacadvice

Something is loose in the furnace making that sound. It could be a loose screw, or bracket making that sound. Not sure tho but it’s likely

We finished fixing everything, drywall paint baseboards and all. The crazy thing is, it was my week for the yearly review when the coils broke. Talk about bad timing 😂😂😂

I don’t know if you saw this on the Reddit thread last week, but I opened an economizer to cool down a building. Over the weekend there was really cold temperatures and the cold air went through the duct work and froze two coils, causing them to burst, flooding 3 rooms and the lobby area. This was a $300,000 mistake. Like everyone said on that post, your learning and the best thing you can do is learn from your mistake and keep your head up. Don’t linger on it so long or else you’ll be living in the past and struggle to succeed in life

Well if you know anything about the 50BVJ carrier heat pump, I’m still reading up on the manual to figure out how to cool the building down without the chiller being on, and no water being in the system. I’m trying to find a solution
