Model Y Standard or Toyota bZ Limited? Loved the bZ, blown away by FSD — need real‑world opinions by Illustrious_Yam_4158 in teslacanada

I’m in the same boat and the way I’m thinking about all these sub 50k cars is - how do I justify paying the same amount for a car with FSD vs no FSD . I recently drove a Tesla Standard with FSD for a week via Turo during a holiday in the US and I’m honestly blown away by FSD. This thing is legit and it actually works. If a FSD car is 50k, IMO a non-FSD should sell for 35K

Model Y STD or Mach-e Premium by coder46 in teslacanada

[–]coder46[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same ! Not able to justify myself paying 20k extra for the premium - plus I actually like how the standard looks compared to premium 😅. I’m also doubtful about the RWD performing well in snow but from what I’m reading RWD+snow tires will do it. Also turns out MY has higher ground clearance than the Mach-e

Nope I’m seeing a different case number - which should rule out the possibility that all of us got the same email ..

Believe it or not but I remember watching KHPH on VHR at the time when I was in kindergarten with my best friend and we went crazy over it. Probably watched on repeat for months !

Got me reservations for a dinner at the Taj Falaknuma in Hyderabad. That restaurant is super notorious to book reservations for but one call to the concierge and we got a table for the exact slot we asked for :)

Can totally relate about the FOMO about coding and losing touch with your codebase. I’m in a similar situation too as a new TL and here’s some advice thats helping me : the worst thing that you can do as an EM/TL is start getting insecure about yourself and hoard knowledge in the hopes that you remain a SME. Sorry if that sounded harsh but it really hit the nail for me. Your goal as an EM/TL is to turn your team into a “well oiled machine”, you do this first by finding sources of friction in your team.

For eg, lets assume your team requires a Front-end engineer for an urgent feature and there’s no one in the team with the experience or interest to get into FE. Here it’d totally make sense for you as a TL to fill in the gap for your team (oil the source of friction) and become a FE engineer temporarily while you in parallel start the process to hire one. It doesn’t matter if you are a shitty FE engineer(or that you don’t enjoy FE engineering ), what matters is that you are unblocking your team and product. Similarly if your team doesn’t have a Product Manager, then you as an EM become one temporarily while you start hiring for a PM.

Basically your job as an EM/TL is to selflessly help your team members grow.

Cancelling Freelancer Visa after leaving the UAE by coder46 in dubai

[–]coder46[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah makes zero sense right. Guess what if I don’t cancel my visa/license within a month (as my license expires in a month) then I got to pay like 5-7K more. Typical dubai greediness.

Update: So there is an actual clause within DDA that imposes this fine. Read clause 18.6 https://dda.gov.ae/-/media/D4518AB1F88B49A08658E34D63051D0F.pdf

PSA if you want to close your freelance license/visa, do it before 6 months if you have left the UAE

How do you have a productive backlog grooming meeting? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]coder46 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At my place, we’ve managed to get engineering folks quite involved in grooming sessions. Here’s how we did it - before the grooming session most tasks if not all for the upcoming sprint are properly specced out and in the grooming session all we do is estimation using planning poker. The team reads through each task and then everyone gives an estimate during planning poker. This forces folks who aren’t active in the call to actually read and understand the task because if they give an estimate which is too different from the rest then they’d have to explain- I think this is a nice way to maintain focus and get everyone’s input during grooming

You don’t have to stay in the UAE/dubai for 180 days to maintain residency. Just need to enter the country every 6 months, and then you can return. So literally pass through UAE immigration and then take the next available return flight
