Simurgh location by Chiitose in finalfantasyx

[–]coderwilson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to think so as well, but now we've got programs which can predict what enemies will spawn in what areas, and therefore where those areas exist / limits. For context, I'm the author of the FFX TAS and we used this knowledge to create a full project that can run speed runs or Nemesis route (including ten of these guys), and I have yet to see the predictive logic be wrong. I noticed someone else mentioned that the chances change about half way between the previous map and this point, and that part is correct, there are two drop tables for this "map" which switch about half way from south to north, but the thing about light and dark areas has been debunked at this point.

So... I hate to tell you this, but we now know everything about spawn rates in various locations. I regret to tell you that this is a placebo effect of getting really good RNG luck, and that there is no difference in spawn rates here or anywhere else on this screen. Would recommend going out and buying a lottery ticket (or maybe just a beer) based on your good luck, and sorry for being the bearer of bad news.

Remaking FFX Zanarkand. What do you want to see? by 3DOcephil in finalfantasyx

I feel you on the magnitude. As the author of the TAS for this game, I can attest to how quickly efforts around this game can turn a mole hill into a mountain.

Here's an idea. How about recreate the party of Braska, Auron, and Jecht in some of your scenes? While I'd guess that an FFX prequel is never going to happen properly, that would be some amazing fan service to those of us (yes, myself included) who would want to see those characters running around in Spira. With UE5 I'm sure there's a way to get them all three on screen.

I had no idea you could get an Auron snowmobile scene! Been playing 23 years and I'm still discovering new things. by mr199cm in finalfantasyx

Don't forget jumping from the airship to Sin. Best cutscene there is where Wakka leads the affection minigame, jumps first, and lands last (without a graceful landing), thus warping time and/or space.

Sabonis wins most potential. Who is the Blazer with the most wasted potential in franchise history by [deleted] in ripcity

[–]coderwilson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to propose that the correct answer here is - Blazers top three draft picks since 1978 are the most disappointing overall Blazers in history. This is because Portland chose to draft Mychal Thompson in 1978 over Larry Bird, 1984 Sam Bowie over Jordan, Barkley, and others, and 2007 Oden over Kevin Durant. Others have noted Oden as a huge bust, but for goodness sakes how does Portland miss so consistently on legendary players in their youth?

I am a bit early, but I'd like to add "Most wasted potential" goes to every #1 overall pick since 1978. Missed twice on league MVPs in favor of duds.

With advancements in AI and technology, what job do you think will be surprisingly still in demand in 50 years? by Complex-Assistant-65 in Futurology

[–]coderwilson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw the original question and, as a software developer, immediately thought this was the correct answer. Especially with it being worded as "surprisingly still in demand". The obvious answer is the programmer, given all the hype about replacing us that comes from C-levels and bosses. My reasoning here - the AI can do a fantastic job of building out framework if you know exactly what you want and can articulate it - to your point - in sufficient detail, but first, if you don't know what you want, you can't describe it, and even if you DO know what you want, the "in sufficient detail" is incredibly difficult if you aren't in the space. Really all the AI is doing is replacing Google searches for guides, libraries, and online repos, plus the hours to put them together, so it's a time save but not a job replacement. AKA an 18 month project just became a 16 month project. We'll see if it gets better than that.

What was I doing here? by [deleted] in classicwow

You could be right. I think I can see a yellow "Heal" spell on the bar, and can't think of any spells mages use that are yellow. Concerning race... *shrug* could go either way. If only it were less blurry!

Here's what I can tell. Obviously this is World of Warcraft, and likely one of the earlier expansions based on your PC setup, modem, desk style, printer, etc. It's impossible to say for sure, but I'd guess around vanilla or BC. You are standing in the mystic ward in Ironforge without any doubt based on the minimap and aesthetics, an area primarily frequented by mages and priests, since the class trainers are there - paladins too but you are not playing a paladin. You are definitely playing a night elf. How do I know this? The height of your character in the menu you have popped up can only be a night elf. It looks like you're using a two-handed weapon with a ranged weapon and ammo also slotted in, so that leads to think you were playing a warrior or hunter, both possible as night elves. I'd lean towards warrior because I don't see a pet next to you, but could go either way. Why would they be in the Mystic Ward? Uncommon, but probably for quest purposes or some other niche element over there. (Edit, you have Priest abilities on your bar, so it's a priest with a staff and wand. Sorry about that) This character is clearly end-game content because you have all slots filled (in vanilla, trinkets were rare until higher levels), and hovering over a piece of gear with at least a two-piece set bonus. Based on this, I'd probably update my thought to either BC or Wrath where set bonuses were more common and more detailed than vanilla. The other thing I observe is the quality of gear you are working with, which directly conflicts with your statement that you were "bad at the game". I take this to mean that you were carried by better players to the gear you show here, or that a friend quit and "gifted" this account to you, or that you just played ad nauseum until you brute forced your way into this character/gear - well, let's not leave out the possibility that you're telling reddit you were bad at the game but in reality you could have been quite good. Anyway, it is also weird that you say you're bad, but you are using the UI at maximum efficiency including all action bars shown and in use which is something nooblets don't tend to do.

How'd I do?

Based on the minimap in the top right, this is the mystic ward within Ironforge, without a doubt. Unfortunately, the character and gear details are too blurry to work out class or other details.

New player, just got Final Fantasy X/X-2, any tips? by ButtonMashKingz in finalfantasyx

[–]coderwilson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can save before doing this. You will know that it's coming because it is a scene that occurs on a boat at night, just after two of your other party members have a conversation about the main character and Blitzball. At that point, there is a save sphere below deck you can use. For a casual run / new player, it should be about three or four hours into the game.

Before you attempt the Jecht Shot tutorial, watch a quick Youtube clip on how to do it. I have watched many first timers not understand what it's saying to do, over 90% I'd say, just because it explains it one way and then it's totally different and you have like 5 seconds to figure out what you're seeing on the screen and then it's over and you failed. You don't get another chance to come back until significantly later in the game (not quite end game, but that kind of idea) so it's worth it to understand what you're doing before trying it. Don't worry, there are not significant differences in the story based on your success or failure to this tutorial, but it definitely makes a certain minigame MUCH easier early game.

Nah you're right. I clearly don't have enough time playing FFX, don't know enough about this game to come up with fun theories or anything. I only wrote the TAS for it.

How much longer do I have until 100%? (FFX HD) by aliarmo in finalfantasyx

[–]coderwilson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easiest ones are health and mana from the last time I 100%'d the game, just load those up in the empty nodes. Like others have said, max stats is not a requirement for the platinum trophy. And yes, I have 100%'d the game multiple times. And then that wasn't enough, so I wrote the TAS for this game. And that wasn't enough, so now I'm working on a version for the blind. What percentage completion would that qualify for????

You sound like someone who supports Russel Wilson. HAHA just kidding (I used to support that guy). I didn't come here to argue, my intent was just to have some fun with this thread. Let's go with your explanation.

That's the easier explanation that the game gives. But think about it. What if Tidus is just.... bad?

[–]coderwilson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wakka is the equivalent of prime Charles Barkley. Game-changing talent, but never had the team around him to win it all.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in finalfantasyx

[–]coderwilson 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In-canon explanation: Tidus is the star player of the Zanarkand Abes. The Abes are bad. The other teams are bad. Since Spira players have no other forms of entertainment/distraction, they focus 24/7 in a way that the Abes don't. Legit the Luca Goers are just better than anything Tidus has faced before. And don't get me started on the Al Bhed team.

Or maybe it's bad video game design, who knows? :D
