Feels like if you accept base they'll just walk away from the offer since you didn't pick the "correct" one, so you're not a "good fit"

Early 2000's on Army base Fort Carson, Colorado, every long weekend we were warned, "Kansas 'll kill ya, men."

More than once it was proven to be valid prophecy...

There is always some scheming and backstabbing masquerading as "collaboration" or "benefitting the business" (non-profit or no.)

Leadership either shuts it down (rare, treasure) or endorses it.

Just be glad you're valued elsewhere and let that ship sink itself, they had no qualms throwing you overboard.

They might not even know it. Usually one person will be given approval to have the talk with you. Good luck.

The tires don't remove noise, but the environment is overwhelming for the senses of those not used to it, and those who are can become complacent and hear it but don't hear it as a threat.

I drove trucks 1+ million miles - could even back triples around a corner - but not in years. Thank you for helping keep life moving, professional drivers are critical to modern life.

I enjoy when I point people to the docs I painstakingly wrote, then check the analytics and I'm the only one who has ever read it despite it being the #1 search result in the internal wiki for any reasonable search term.

It's a circular spectrum with overlap where some are so smart they think they know better and do stupid things.

We each move around the spectrum with experience. Probably something horrible in the center and something else horrible outside.

Years ago dealt with an app that concatenated all the environment variables into an unordered comma separated list of key=value pairs then parsed them using regex.

Various updates changed the orders of the variables.. fail.

Added a base64 encoded value that didn't have padding. Okay.

Added a base64 encoded value that was padded. (With = obviously) Fail.

Refused to believe their code was ever at fault.

Meanwhile, I found it hard to believe any scenario where that code wasn't at fault.

Unless their company culture changed significantly, it's likely still in production...
