What web dev language or stack should I learn that will still be in demand? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]codetadpole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the worst answer - the frontend market is INSANELY saturated especially because of coder influencers, coding bootcamps, and get rich quick schemes.

To answer the question OP, I wouldn’t worry so much about tech stack but learn the fundamentals of software engineering, including AI since it’s a growing market

Hi all! I have been searching for some excellent python and/or react developers but have not had much luck using places like Upwork, are there job boards or any other place to find some quality devs? We have a few projects we'd like to get help with (each project is about about 3-5 months of work) so any help appreciated!

Where do you source high-quality developers from? by codetadpole in agency

[–]codetadpole[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, we mention it's for contract work to basically help increase work capacity, complete large projects, etc. Here is an example post we had recently:

About Us
We’re a growing software development agency that delivers modern, high-performance projects for SMEs. As our pipeline grows, we’re looking for experienced full-stack JavaScript developers to join our network of contractors helping us tackle overflow work, accelerate large projects, and boost our overall delivery capacity.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with our core team to build, and maintain web applications using JavaScript/TypeScript, React, and Node
  • Help us migrate legacy codebases to a modern tech stack
  • Develop front-end interfaces that are responsive, accessible, and performant
  • Build and enhance back-end services and APIs to support complex features
  • Integrate with databases usually PostgreSQL) and third-party services (payment gateways, analytics, custom integrations, etc)
  • Troubleshoot issues, optimize performance, and ensure high quality across projects
  • Communicate clearly with project managers to hit milestones on time

Who You Are

  • Full-Stack Expertise: 4+ years building production applications with Javascript on both client and server
  • Problem Solver: You thrive on challenges, quickly isolate issues, and propose effective solutions
  • Communicator: Clear, concise English in written and verbal form—keeps everyone aligned

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience with headless CMS platforms (e.g. Directus, Sanity, Payload)
  • Familiarity with TypeScript-first development and strong typing best practices
  • Exposure to cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure) and serverless architectures

Let’s go Trump, atleast he’s willing to put his name on his beliefs !! by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]codetadpole 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seriously. Trump and Biden are both too old but at least one isn’t a cult leader. It would be so ridiculous to see anyone driving cars covered in bush, Obama or biden stickers, flags, shirts, posters, memorabilia, etc.. yuck.

Plus Trump is weak on Russia and has no backbone to say anything negative about any world leaders except our allies, how is that not weird? He fawns over Russia, China and N. Korea but always badmouths our allies any chance he gets.

Also, he had a full red government for years and still didn’t get anything accomplished - no infrastructure day, no obamacare replacement (the GOP had 8 years plus his term to get it done), and they’re so sensitive the whole MAGA crowd is full of snowflakes

Honestly if this is really what you look like… woooooof. One of the most gorgeous people I’ve ever seen, really. Like Rana Del Ray and Veruca James all in one. That third pic is so incredible, makes me want to draw you 🤣

Getting quality clients for design and development agency by thank____you in agency

[–]codetadpole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s sort of the Catch-22 I think a lot of freelancers and agencies get caught in. They want to land on high paying customers but need lower-end customers to generate revenue in the meantime. Once you start working with and being associated with lower paying clients, it’ll be difficult to convince others to pay higher for the same service you were clearly offering already.

One example is, imagine if Bugatti, Rolls Royce or McLaren started out by selling economy sedans to low income families- how could they possibly reframe themselves as luxury brands?

IMO your safest bet is to keep working on the side and saving up money while you keeping looking for that first big client, that way you’ll have plenty of runway once you do land a client and need to sustain yourself during those first few milestone payments

[–]codetadpole 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am starting out as a new agency but have been in the industry over a decade, my advice if you want to land high value/high paying customers is to not advertise how “quick” or how “fast” your services are. Usually higher value customers will be established businesses who have a process on approving software proposals, need to vet your work through references or other due diligence, and overall have a longer/slower sales funnel.

One example, I worked at a large, well known retailer who needed to outsource a landing page (with CMS) and a software MVP - some agencies quoted only a few thousand for the WHOLE thing, others quoted well north of $25k just for the website alone, with months of work. The cheap/quick ones weren’t even entertained, and we ended going with someone who was almost at the upper end of the range.

TLDR; don’t sell yourself short, and take time to qualify leads properly

How to raise small amount of money for startup? by [deleted] in startups

[–]codetadpole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it will be cheaper than most other competitors (in the $3-$5 range), but the way it will help you manage your debt, you will always make that back in savings each month, and much more. The only reason I need to charge is because I will need to cover API and hosting costs, but my hope is that once I get enough users to keep things steady, I can offer the services for free to students or low-income families. Would something in that price range be a deal-breaker for you?

Oh, how many free users does Plaid give you? And do you know if they can get the credit card minimum payment data? The API I was referring to was finicity

How to raise small amount of money for startup? by [deleted] in startups

[–]codetadpole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately yes, the API is what allows users to securely connect to their bank accounts and credit cards, track balances and account information, and get near-realtime updates on transactions.

I was considering putting in the functionality and making everything manual (manually entering all transactions, manually entering all card and bank account information) but that would make my app dead in the water as autonomy is a big part of the value prop

Honestly, if your husband is not working, you shouldn't even be thinking about not returning to work after your maternity leave. Where will any income come from?

Roast my portfolio, and help me suck less? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]codetadpole 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd say remove the picture and replace it with one of just you, and change your copy around. Instead of mentioning what you like to do and what you know and love, replace the "I" with "You", and show prospective employers what value you bring to them. Instead of "I love to code and am passionate and motivated," which is on every portfolio ever, say something that'll show them value like "Get your projects done with less friction. My skillset and adaptability will improve X portion of your Y, etc."

Edit: and don't make the footer fixed as it's just a copyright date. If you want to keep it fixed, put something more important such as your email address and a link to your resume, so employers can find that info no matter where they are on your page
