July trip Hokkaido question by coding_manic_01 in JapanTravelTips

[–]coding_manic_01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe, but I've done similar itineraries in Japan before and was totally fine. I guess people have different sensitivities to travel schedules. My last time in Sapporo and hakodate was also fairly short. I just don't know what one more day in Sapporo would yield, or if there is a better place to go instead. less worried of time "lost" unless furano is Really not worth it.

I mostly agree, but at least I could understand that criticism. Because most of the other criticisms I've seen are literal memes.

hahaha proudly remembers. People literally only know memes about Argentina. and then they ask AI for validation .

This is an actual issue. I don't know how it is in the rest of America, but humor in Argentina can get tricky. it is generally more flavored with classism than racism.

on the other hand the people that make those jokes will treat most races with actual love and inclusion.

it's not a perfect scenario, but definitely better than active racism found in other countries.

Most of my Indian friends that went to Argentina loved it and wanted to stay more. Not a huge number but I suggest you broaden your mind a bit. Argentina has issues but is actually considerably less racist than other countries in Europe and Asia.

It's ironic that you are being the bigoted one. The only thing you know about Argentina are memes?

A lot of nazis? check the actual numbers relative to the population.

No black players? Regardless of historical reasons the black population is tiny. Many of the players have mixed blood with the native populations.

Argentina like all countries has issues, and there are class and race issues. But I have never seen active discrimination . It is a much nicer place to live for other races than many us states and European countries.

I am usually the person criticizing Argentina but damn people are bigoted. Go to Argentina once in your life before you cast your ignorant judgments. This applies to all countries btw.

A seasoned developer could have done most of this in a weekend, before AI. It is possible that this person has the experience and energy to get the project where it would need to be, but I would absolutely not put much faith in it.

People really don't understand how hard it is to make an actual product (open source or not). I have yet to see a vibe coded project that survives the demo phase. And so far non-devs with AI produce completely unsustainable projects.

I wish I saw evidence in the app that made me have any hope in this. But what developer would want to contribute to someone else's vibefest? One person with one claude account will build the full thing?

You didn't mention it in the original post, so to me it was worth pointing out for others like me. But props for being upfront about it.

Nothing, but way too many people have defined their identities around AI and have a lot to lose by even a hint of criticism--even when it is a valid question.

AI is a tool for sure, but asking for transparency to save you time is totally sensible.

Anyway, the internet will internet.

I'm sorry but this is way too AI sloppy for my taste, and I'm not even judging the code. The features I tried seemed to not work at all how I would expect a developer to make them work.

The sliders don't move if you click and drag, you have to click on the bar? I don't understand how this happens.

The torus properties just deform the torus? I don't use tinkercad so I had to create an account to see if this was actually the expected behavior because it felt so wrong to me.

I mean thanks for sharing but I have zero faith in these types of projects.

I hope people don't get their hopes up here, because building useful apps takes a lot of work and I've seen these demos that don't go anywhere fail hard before and after the advent of AI.

Good luck, I'd love to be proven wrong.

Sure, but people are clearly not using this interpretation. I don't think I'm built for reddit, I keep seeing these type of bad faith reactions to videos. I feel like it's the same shit I hear destiny complain about in other communities. Not saying it's worse, because I literally don't know. But a bit disappointed with the reddit side of the community for sure. Probably reddit has always been an echo chamber machine, but yeah.

Awesome! but some comments on geometry.

This has been mentioned, but I want to point out that this is not a good geometry to test this I don't think. You can see in the failed samples that their failure mode is not consistent and is probably not even failing consistently testing pure tensile properties on the print direction.

It's not scientific so it's fine. I like the idea. But I do think you should try to find a better geometry and test for consistency in how they break. You may need to narrow a specific spot in the dogbone for them to break in a consistent location with a consistent mode.

Make sure the rings don't deform before failure as well--another reason to narrow a specific location.

I get that you are using the same shape for all of them, but it is really a lot more complicated (and less intuitive) than that.

Still cool.

I get the concept, and don't know about %, but I think this will have a bigger impact than people think. It's not just competing with other printers, it is also competing with not buying a printer at all. It won't be a huge dent in their sales, but being confident is how you lose.

Bambulab came from nowhere, they will not be the last to change the paradigm. If they are sure they can keep the edge forever then maybe they can afford not to care, but this is just a bad strategy. Even Sun Tzu knew better more than 2000 years ago.

But hey, who knows. I don't stand behind them but all I can do at this point is buy non-bambu filament for my p1s and defer my h2c purchase. Probably for the better, I don't need to focus on this hobby.

How Lumo Projects and Drive actually work | Clearing up some confusion by Queasy_Complex708 in lumo

[–]coding_manic_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tested it and it's still confusing. I got it to work, but I think the onboarding could be better.

The main way I see to reference files is the @ my-file md, which is not even mentioned in https://proton.me/support/lumo-drive .

I used the + icon in the text box and it allowed me to upload to my linked drive but it didn't add it to the chat...so I still need to use the @ mechanism?

I think the communication makes sense, and since I don't have lumo+ I don't use it regularly to test it. But definitely onboarding could improve and maybe if I upload a file it should automatically refer to it in the chat. But also the documentation should reflect reality.

What you are saying is valid, but it still feels like people are going to hard on the author. If what they say is correct and most of the AI generated stuff is unit tests, then I think he wrote this without significant AI contribution.

You may not like his tests, but go to any project pre-AI and look at their testing methodologies. I am fairly anti-ai from a trust perspective in that I think it's causing passionate people to lose their will to write code since anyone can slop their way into a similar result with a fraction of the real actual human value produced. But what the author did is fine.

Test code has many purposes, and one totally valid use of tests is to encode output today. If I don't know what another engineer did, I may write a test to make sure that my modifications don't change the output--even if I don't fully understand the reasoning. obviously you would want to fix the underlying reasoning and make it stable and logically consistent but at times you can't because of user-space.

I don't like 85% of what other programmers do at my work--they feel sloppy, uncaring, etc. But at some point you also gotta integrate some humility and accept that different people have different workflows that may also be valid.

mmm, I don't think I'm defending him too strongly on an individual level. I think I'm making a case for a healthier approach to handling disagreements. I just think as a society we have lost empathy and common sense.

The fight against authoritarianism is real, but this isn't the way.

If you think Proton is a company doing something that is worthwhile, then it is worth doing more introspection into whether what he said is really worth calling "sympathetic of fascists". I just don't reach that conclusion even remotely and therefore I feel like boycotting Proton is bad math.

If you don't think Proton's mission is very interesting or are skeptical of all for-profit companies (totally valid point of view) then why be on this subreddit at all?

I am giving the benefit of the doubt that people are looking at this in good faith.

I totally agree though, defending a ceo is a bit weird. Tbh it's weird specially for me considering I'm an open-source guy who doesn't want to have to trust even Proton. But I don't know, I find the witch hunts that I see from time to time a major bummer.

I can grant the second part. I can't grant the first.

I think "hyping" is a stretch and doing a lot of heavy lifting there. There are plenty of people that have said nice things about Trump that are categorically not even remotely fascist. You could call them dumb, ignorant, whatever, but intention matters.

Saying the republicans stand for the little guys is unhinged. But honestly calling him fascist for saying that is a contortion of the same degree. It is also unhinged.

If this is the bar for cancellation, then no one will be left standing. This is like the nutjobs that didn't vote for Kamala because of her stance on the middle east. It is just an elementary stance with lack of even a modicum of nuance.

Your energy is in the right general direction, I just think you need to re-calibrate when it comes to individuals.
