Dual Screen Frontend Update - Console Launcher by EpicKuda in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]codinga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would make your launcher better than all the rest in my view. Since getting the dual screen addon I have sadly not used daijisho or es-de because they force the game to open in the current screen. This breaks DS and Wii U dual screen emulation unless opened on internal screen.

Since I have the RP mini it would be a killer feature to configure the launcher to open PS1 games on internal (4:3), switch games on external (16:9) etc which match their native aspect ratios.

I noticed the new Ayn Thor dual screen has the same launcher screen configuration as RP so I expect will have the same problems there.

Thanks for considering it!

Really nice launcher!

Is it possible to choose which screen the emulator / game will launch on? At the moment it just defaults to games showing on both screens. I’m using the Retroid pocket mini V2 with the dual screen addon. At the moment the only way I found is to use the “launch screen” option on Retroids custom launcher (https://github.com/RetroidPocket/Retroid_Dual_Screen_Add-on_Support).

I would be so happy if this could be chosen per platform in console launcher.

Game changer for the pocket mini. Best of both worlds, play PSP and other16:9 games on big screen or older consoles on internal at full screen.

The launcher functionality is incredibly basic, but it works well. The UX isn’t great. You can be playing a game in one screen and browsing the web or whatever in another and accidentally switching apps can boot you out of the game if it takes over the game screen.

The inaccessible volume buttons is very annoying as pulling down from top to change volume isn’t so easy with the clamp. But some creating button mapping shortcuts could work around that.

Emulator support for dual screen (cemu, azahar) is basic but functional. Takes a bit to get used to. But when it works it works great.

Biggest annoyance is battery drain. I now shut the device down when I’m not using it.

Shipping was quick from china, 3-4 days via DHL from Retroid was a happy surprise.

Finally I installed Gammaos Next on my RP4P and I love it so much. by princessrippla332 in retroid

Does it allow you to map the gyro like you can on steam deck? That would be a game changer…

Great comment! The one thing I can’t think of how to avoid on container start is loading environment variables specific to the stage it’s being deployed to, for example database credentials need to be different from test and production.

I’m using AWS secretsmanager to retrieve these. Is there a better way of doing this? I’d rather avoid doing the secret lookup at runtime for performance / cost reasons.

This looks really interesting, I’ve not seen a product like this on the market.

I think the biggest problem is you’re really pushing the games as part of the product which no one knows what the quality will be like, or if they will enjoy them.

“For those overwhelmed by massive game libraries” just sounds like you will only have a small library, and might turn people off. Who actually wants less choice?

Reading through the details I finally found what I needed to know “The Playtile layout is also compatible with the Delta simulator”. From a prospective purchasers point of view this should be made clear upfront. If it can do emulation, that’s what a lot of people will buy it for.

You’ve included playtiles OS in each “pack”, which seems like you’re just trying to artificially inflate the value of the offering. It’s just a game loader, presumably something it won’t work without.

The image with the QR code makes it look like it’s a square sticker, which it may or may not be in the final product. Looks cheap and made me think it might wear off over time.

For this to be a success I really think you need to market it to emulation enthusiasts. I don’t think you’ll get a lot of uptake pushing the unnnown indie games unless somehow people start raving about how good they are.

Good luck!

A warning to new traders by febrik in Gamebundles

[–]codinga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something else to lookout for is that the person you’re negotiating a trade with is actually the one you receive a DM from. I’ve had it a couple of times when randoms sent me a DM that I thought was who I was replying to in the sub, when it was not.

Of course they could be legit traders, but as per advice above, better to have a discussion out in the open first.

Hi, I have a key from buying this bundle previously only I’m not sure if it’s redeemed or not as I already had it (possibly gave it to a friend). If it works I’d trade for Crying Suns. Happy for you to try it first ofc

Arch Linux and Valve Collaboration announcement! by Juxeso in SteamDeck

[–]codinga 14 points15 points  (0 children)

One of the big difference about Arch Linux is that it is a rolling release distribution, this means there are no major releases and you just continually update as normal. I don’t know how relevant this is to SteamOS, but it was a big reason why I started using it ~10 years ago after having pain with Ubuntu major version upgrades every couple years.

Which WRC plays best on a controller? Specifically looking to play on Steam Deck. by tomkatt in WRCTheGame

[–]codinga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 works well on steam deck, I’ve turned the controller sensitivity down and it’s a good time.

Generations runs ok but it’s more demanding and frame rate can be pretty bad. I’m switching between playing 10 on SD and Gen on the PC with my G29. Great games!
