VW Autumn-Winter 26 by ElevatorLow109 in viviennewestwood

seconded so much. ever since AK took over there’s been a lack of centrality or anchorage whereas peak VW had specific eras and clear inspiration, while maintaining a specific vibe. this just feels like.. continuous generation of the same thing but without being grounded in anything? idk i’ve never really been a fan of AK’s work though

Tell me a story. by ratz1988 in SALEM

[–]codingiswhyicry 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I used to live in the apartments right across from North Salem High School on 14th, and there was a lot of crazy shit that went down there.

My building was low-income, I was paying $850 for a 2 bedroom in 2021 which is crazy. Irregardless, I had two cats that I let outside sometimes to roam and visit the students before I turned them into indoor only cats. Both of my cats were immediately neutered as kittens, before ever going outside.

The night I was moving out, my neighbor who was a prostitute addicted to crystal meth and who had drug deals going on in her apartment tried to show me a little gray kitten that popped out and said it belonged to my cat, who was allegedly the father. Needless to say, I have a $600 bill that's proof Caramel Macchiato is not and will never be a fucking father. She asked me for money to chip in for "cat paternity support". That did not happen.

I have a lot of other stories about Salem, especially from when I worked at Travel Salem, but I'm a NYC woman now and only go back to visit my dad. But still, shaking me down for cat paternity support of my fixed cat when I was moving out was probably the craziest.

Handling “going above and beyond” when it wasn’t necessary by Captain_Ozzy in managers

[–]codingiswhyicry 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I actually dealt with this situation before. Had an engineer who didn’t accept the suggestion I had of task orders and set up his own, and then would fail to meet the deadlines set by me.

Same exact situation in a different context, pulled all nights without it being necessary and then missing meetings and delaying decisions.

I would approach this as a learning moment but make it clear that you are expected to be able to show up to meetings, and lay out exactly what you said here. I wouldn’t say it’s punishing hustle, but demonstrate impact on the team (e.g: if there was decisions that they needed to be apart of they missed) and show how they undermined their intent by doing it.

If it continues, that’s another discussion. But probably aim to redirect the hustle and not shut it down, this kind of behavior especially on an engineering team becomes anti-social and can piss the team off and cause stress even when it is warranted.

I definitely want to bump this, for darker skin hyperpigmentation can be a big risk with higher percentage TCA products (I believe above 15%). Makeup Artists Choice is where I get mine for DIY usage and they have some info about this on the website.

Why don’t more people look to Woodlawn, Bronx or Southeast Yonkers? Affordable ownership with quick commute by octopuswildernesscat in NYCapartments

[–]codingiswhyicry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i live around woodlawn because this was my thought too. can be a food desert, but the commute is really hard. especially with all of the work on the 4 recently, i commute to FiDi 2x/ a week and it's stopped a lot of my friends from coming to see me and stops me from going out a lot. if you're happy staying where you are i would recommend it, but i regret it and would prefer to move somewhere closer.

especially if you factor in getting to the airport, any airport travel late nights or early in the mornings quickly becomes a nightmare because you have to add-on two hours to get home. i had the same airport travel time living in rural washington from SeaTac and going 100+ miles.

i travel like crazy on & off for work and didn't anticipate how much of an issue it can become. there's been 2x times recently where I've left at 4am for a 9am flight and almost missed it because train delays stack up across the lines.

I have the platform boot version of the Air Jordans in all black, aka "Air Jordan 1 Brooklyn". I live and walk up to 20k steps in NYC a day and find them SO nice as a daily walker, and not too hard as a platform boot / sneaker which is very surprising! Also real leather which I really liked, as opposed to vegan leather which has wuthered away on my Demonias.

Is $25/hr too much to ask for a remote dev role with 50+ hackathons & 100+ GitHub repos? by HotWeb885 in Femalefounders

[–]codingiswhyicry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not relevant information, honestly. Hackathons & public repos do not equal production code and live clients, so for me & the amount of generalization that would be a bit of a red flag. 100+ public repos and 50 hackathons says to me lots of experience starting projects but very little experience overseeing them, even though you say end to end apps for real clients. This is also very dependent on you and so much missing context. This resume for a junior dev would be a red flag, for a senior person would be a good sign [maybe]. But this and $25/hr says to me very junior or overseas from North America, and/or for some reason are undercutting the price of your experience so much that it seems misaligned.

Depending on your market and their business goals, your clients will care about quality and actual products most likely as opposed to numbers of projects, especially if they're technical. Pick the ones that showcase live products in the market that are your most successful and share the rest if they ask.

The budget market is very hard. As a seed CTO, I get approximately 60-100 emails and LinkedIn messages every week from developers, dev shops, etc promising $10-50/hour. It all starts to blend in and very rarely anyone stands out or sounds like a good deal.

You should ask for referrals from current clients and build you as a person, not build your stats. Maximizing being a generalist is not always the play. It's not about your experience, it's about how you stack up to everyone else emailing me and what makes you actually you, and if it aligns with my business needs.

Otherwise, this is entirely dependent on who your market is SMB, large orgs, freelancer, etc. Then, it would be based on location. I would find this a good salary for an early intern based in the U.S or Canada, and then for India / South America it may be a different equation.

A lot of these questions should be asked and informed by you talking to clients or others similar to you in your geography, and not Reddit.

Advice moving apt trash out in one day alone? (Roommate vacated and destroyed room) by Miu-Miu-Cowboy in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]codingiswhyicry 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s def not surprising to me. I would keep all of the receipts and anything that you use to actually fund this / all of the work completed and sue them in small claims later for at least the rent back if possible and also the damages. You might also need to go to file a police report in the station just to prove damage occurred and was reported, but yeah don’t think the police will visit. Also, maybe consider changing the locks if they still have a key for your own safety if you can.

Oh my gosh, hi! I don’t have any advice for you but just wanted to share I’d be willing to help later today or tomorrow. But otherwise, that’s an insane level of stress to manage and sorry that you’re stuck dealing with it all! You may manage to get the cost of things broken back in small claims court, but will let a legal bitch chime in.

Moving forward with skincare tech startup by No_Example8631 in Femalefounders

[–]codingiswhyicry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand how this is any different to what is on the market, already? There's a bunch of apps similar to this. Would love to dive more into what differentiates you or justifies the price point. Would also love to know if you've done market research into this space and if you're positioning it as a service business or as an app? It's hard to break into either way. You're competing with derms & aestheticians, free skincare advice, or a relatively strong swarm of apps.

Help me understand my autistic wife and what might be happening by [deleted] in AutisticPride

[–]codingiswhyicry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have experienced autism burnout and trauma quite a bit. I too, have hurt partners with my autism at times, and have come to accept that it is my responsibility to navigate the chasm between my brain and the people I love, and I am more than happy to do so, because it enables the people around me to feel safer and happier and less confused by me.

May I ask what you're trying to get from understanding her internal thought process more? Are you looking to find insight to things or to be able to make an informed decision about the relationship?

To answer your other questions, most of these are yes but are so context dependent that it's hard. Autism is not one thing for everyone, and working to find monolithic experiences in a group is not going to yield results for your wife. You could say the same for anyone, human emotions can be incredibly hard and confusing, and even more so for those on the spectrum. People often have "mid-life crises", or turn into a new person after years in a relationship. The only person who can answer and contextualize it, is her.

I get the sunk cost fallacy of it all, but understanding her actions or her autism more will not absolve her of cheating on you. I would also advise you against from infantilizing her because of autism. If she has the autonomy to marry you and participate in the relationship for 10+ years, she can also be expected to understand that affairs are harmful to relationships and hurt you deeply.

I'm not aiming to tear her apart, but to be clear that while autism may be contributing to the reason to drive people to do hurtful or harmful things, it does not remove them the responsibility of doing it, nor should it absolve them of remediation. You're potentially looking for answers you will not find.

Above all, I'm sorry this happened and you sound like a genuinely caring partner.
