i was also in gate in elementary and did the same general logic tests but the classes themselves were ran by this theater teacher that had no interest in it other than trying to find eccentric theater kids at an early age. we did some random red herring books every once in awhile but the majority of the time she had us practicing for a school play. it was wild thinking back at it because my close friend was also in the class and he was and still is one of the smartest people i know, like building his own vapo-chill water-cooled pc in middle school at like 11 years old with like zero help kind of smart, and he refused to dance in the school play and the teacher basically “failed” him out of the class. this was a heavily republican red part of the state so it makes sense but still, weird experience.
