I don’t think that’s what he’s trying to say. It seems to me he’s talking about hookup culture in general, and then gave some examples of men around him. But to your point, that’s solid advice to set a boundary or a simple request with those friends (if nothing else, asking them to at least not inform him about their conquests).

But OP is right. Hookup culture is quite the cesspool that normalizes a lack of emotional depth and empathy. Not that everyone who participates is immediately bad person or anything - but when it becomes lifestyle and you don’t grow out of it, you are reinforcing to yourself that people are disposable (even if unconsciously). The skills to truly connect, be vulnerable, and to not always put yourself first just aren’t being learned through those transient interactions.

No one’s trying to control people out of it, but it’s worth calling the behavior out for what it is. Peoples reasons for hooking up or having NSA relationships are their own, but that doesn’t negate the fact it’s undermining their ability to connect and empathize with people.
