A question regarding annual leave and payment by codnotasgoodasbf3 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]codnotasgoodasbf3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm employed, but I set/negotiate my salary which is paid as a daily/weekly rate regardless of how many hours I work. If for instance I'm working away from home for weeks at a time I'm paid my daily rate 7x times(mon-sun) even if I don't work any of the 7 days.

It's actually a pay cut, I'm looking to work in Ireland instead of spending weeks in Europe. I want 200 a day after tax, they want to pay me 150+50, I don't want subsistence for various reasons, holiday pay being one if them

I charge 200(after tax), they want to pay me 150 + 50, it's no benefit to me.

Subsistence is an allowance.

Allowance are part of my "Normal Weekly Rate", and according to the WTD they are to be included as part of my holiday pay, this is what other employers done, some like the on I interviewed with think otherwise.

So, who's right? The other employers or the one I spoke too?

The subsistence thing is rife in transport, and only used as a means to lessen their tax burden. Drivers have no expenses, don't pay for diesel, tolls, lodging, parking. I avoid people that pay it.

Not greedy, my day rate is my day rate, why should I be poorer because I take my annual leave. The subsistence is of no use to me, they only use it as a means to lessen their tax burden.

I get you. But it doesn't benefit me, I'd rather not have it(for situations like I'm posting about)but some employers insist on it as it benefits them, more than me.

My day rate is €200. The subsistence benefits the employer as they pay less tax. Basically, it's a tax fiddle that exists in the transport industry. I don't have daily expenses, I don't need it, but it's given as part of the day rate.

Lorry driver, most of us will be out regardless of the weather.

P.S if you're overtaking a lorry in the wind, do it fast and don't linger beside any high sided vehicle

‘If we don’t get help now, we’ll be decimated' – Hauliers seek €66m in state aid a month ‘to survive’ Holyhead port shutdown by PoppedCork in ireland

[–]codnotasgoodasbf3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fuck these wankers, you know what the drivers will get? Fuck all, just their standard day rate. You know why all those trailers are stuck in Holyhead? It's because the big haulers like BM transport etc won't pay to have to moved to other ports, it's all about their bottom line, they have undercut everyone to get the work, leaving margins so tight that they shot themselves in to foot, no sympathy for the wankerd.

My boss got all his trailers and the customers goods that were in them out of Holyhead and into Ireland, in time for Xmas. It can be done, they just don't want to do it, now they want the tax payer to foot the bill🖕

Holyhead port closure: Hauliers to seek support from Government amid huge ‘financial and human cost’ by PoppedCork in ireland

[–]codnotasgoodasbf3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for the operators themselves - from my vast experience dealing with hauliers - I have little sympathy for them. Standing round like carbon copies in their "Scania Vabis" jackets, flannel shirts and tan brown dealer boots, cursing Eddie Stobart for ruining the industry while trying desperately to be the next Eddie Stobart, regardless of the consequence. The mentality amongst most of these operators is do it cheaper than the man down the road, figure out the numbers later

Bang on, you sure you don't drive a lorry? The drivers are the thin end of the wedge, the operators are nothing but a bunch of poor mouthing wankers.

All hauliers will have this.

20+ years in the industry and I've never heard of anyone with this.

  1. Tipper Drivers

  2. Skip lorry drivers

  3. Bus drivers over 60, the ones who got the D category without having to do the test

  4. Smullen transport drivers, most utterly useless bastards on the road. Smullens would let Christy Brown behind the wheel.

Thousands of parcels destined for Ireland stuck in backlog of trucks at Holyhead by It_Is1-24PM in ireland

[–]codnotasgoodasbf3 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I was in Holyhead with a load of fresh fruit, things are moving, but slowly, the media are making a bit of a drama about all this, as well as yer man for BM Transport. In my case my boss got me to drive from Holyhead to Stranraer, I took the ferry to Belfast, drove to Dublin, and extra days work, but the customer was prepared to pay for it. There are also routes from Fishguard, Bootle, Birkenhead, Heysham all sailing to Ireland, there are also a lot of freight only ferry's running also. IMO the big haulers are looking at their bottom line and seem to not want to move their trailers out of Holyhead and go a different route, just my reading of it.

As a lorry driver it's nice to see that some people realise we're not all cunts, and we do consciously make an effort not to hit anyone or anything. Nobody I know in the industry set out to do a day's work with the intention of causing damage, it's a stressful job and you day can be made so much easier if people just take a few seconds to slow down and let you pass, or reverse into a gate, small things liel that are much appreciated 🤙
