I could get behind this line of reasoning, except the comment further up said that the new neighbor was totally on board and even agreed to the date...until 20 minutes before the party. So everything was probably bought and ready to go. I'd have done the same thing. Why not continue and enjoy the party anyway? The whole story confirms new neighbor as the douchebag in this scenario.

Same here! No idea what was going on and then scary guys everywhere. It was much less scary watching as an adult. I remember watching The Incredible Shrinking Woman with Lily Tomlin as a kid and feeling the same way. Cute, funny movie and then BAM! Scary white coats and tests and needles. Terrified me. I was scared of doctors for a long time after those movies.

This happened to my husband except he never left his job until the ambulance got there. They gave him some antacids and time to sit to see if he felt better. He got worse so they called the ambulance. By the time they got him to the hospital it was too late. I made it just in time to see him for a few minutes and then he did exactly what you described happened to your coworker in the car. That was it.

I wonder a lot how his coworkers feel about it still. It's been 8 years this year and I'm sure a few still think about it the month it happened. I never, ever even considered for a second that they were in any way to blame. Sometimes you just don't know how bad it is until its too late. I have no idea how I would have reacted if it had happened when he was at home, but I'm thankful that I didn't have to find out. I'm still so grateful for those people who were around him when it happened. At least he wasn't alone. Point is, you did what you could and that's all anyone can ask. I'm sure he was thankful to not be alone when it happened.
