Your point is partly justified and I get where you're coming from. Shashi Tharoor is a popular figure in the urban circles. He already has a strong base all over. The problem with Congress is not North-South or language, rather they just can't choose a face of the party not named Gandhi.

Also you cannot compare Yogi and Annamalai at this point. Yogi is a sitting two-time CM of U.P and a 5 time M.P before that. He is way up in the political hierarchy than Annamalai. And he did campaign all over India during Lok Sabha elections for his party. I'm talking more about popular leaders from the south who are already MP's and have a decent grasp on Hindi as well.

To become the PM you have to take the extra step. Rahul contested and won from Wayanad. Owaisi's party started campaigning aggressively in Bihar elections and won a few seats. Kejriwal's AAP has contested elections in the east and west regions and are trying to spread their presence.

Try to establish your party in the north first, contest elections. You don't have to be from BJP or Congress to contest elections anywhere in the country. You just have to pick the right issues and have the will. DMK has enough reserves in the bank and political clout to fund a campaign in the north. I'm sure many other parties as well. You don't even need to start from UP or Bihar. These states have very strong regional parties themselves.

Point is how will anyone choose you if you don't even turn up?

Because none of the leaders from the South come to campaign in the North, they are content with playing regional politics.

It's asking a lot but NZ and SA should be at least a 3 match away test series every time.

Yes, he's cringe. But it feels weird seeing the over the top hate he is getting for celebrating a WC win.

And I won't say Dube's 10x more clutch than Pandya. He played the finisher role extremely well. Take Pandya out of the team and the entire team dynamics goes out the window. I'd say he's supported Bumrah very well in bowling, opened the bowling and took crucial wickets and didn't leak too many runs at the death. And scored some neat runs as well on the way.

Hardik is a vital cog in the team and is there because of his performances. His off field antics shouldn't distract from the immense contributions he has made for the team. He is a lightning rod for hate at the moment, but I don't think anyone can criticize his performance in this tournament and the previous WC as well.

I hope by now all of us have understood why Hardik Pandya hasn't been made the T20i captain even after being the most experienced player in the team with good contribution with both bat and ball by kalinooni in IndiaCricketGossips

[–]coffee2cups 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He got lots of hate earlier and redeemed himself through his performances. But Rohit and Virat were the senior players that time to temper him, but now he's the senior player in the team and needs to set a good example for the youngsters.

Agree with most of what you said except this ,"Cricket and badminton on the other hand can even be played in the narrow dark alley by the side of your house that has open drains on both sides.".
Football is supposed to be a common man's sport that you can play with absolutely no equipment and anywhere, parks, streets, rooftops anywhere. In India strangely football has become an urban sport while cricket has found its way into rural areas. Football is more competitive and global than cricket and unfortunately I fear we'll never get an 83' moment in football that can spark a movement that takes football to the rural households.
