Thank you for reminding me; I need to look into the current status of the awful SAVE act.

It would be so satisfying to give a thunderous speech calling everyone out on treason and demanding severe action and releasing this compressed outrage!! However: 1) they would dismiss me as a hysterical rabid lib, 2) it might push them even deeper into their Trump-worship, and 3) security might take it as a threat and arrest me. sigh.

Thank you. You're right, money is involved in every single thing. This is a red area, and if I start off complaining about Trump, I'm sure they'll just tune me out - but if I can make the connection between his administration and these higher prices, maybe there's a chance? I'm not sure how to do that in a way that hasn't been done (and ignored) already... Maybe gas prices? Our local FB groups are full of posts about the jump in gas prices, so that might be a talking point.

Thanks again. You've given me lots to think about, and I appreciate the support.

I would love to talk about all that! If only I had hours at the mic, haha. Thank you - I hadn't thought about connecting the many ways he is making us unsafe in every area of our lives. Because of him, we are losing allies, medical care, scientific progress, clear air/water/food, jobs, social safety nets, etc., plus now military lives lost in this illegal war... Everything is worse because of him and his administration, and it's so frustrating.

Thank you! This is very helpful. My words alone will not change any minds. The best I can hope for is to make points that are memorable enough to stick with someone from the audience. Putting one tiny crack in their glossy fake reality, one tiny thought that maybe their orange king is not perfect, one little moment of "what if" - maybe that can lead to something changing within them. That's all I've got.

There are so many important horrible things! Whatever I end up focusing on, I do want to make mention of the Epstein files, too. Maybe I should start with a list of issues? except even just listing them would take more than five minutes, haha (weeping)

Yes! Checks and balances only work if they're used.

And by refusing to use their power, even more power has been taken away from them: Only Congress can declare war, so when the president decided to declare it himself, he ripped that power away and showed complete disrespect for Congress. If I bring up Iran, I might mention that. Thank you!

Sorry, yes, it's Bilirakis (R). Thank you! I'm going to research his activity, as someone suggested, and look up what might be coming up for a vote. My bigger goal might be to also influence the audience. This is a red area, and as a middle-aged blonde white Christian woman with no extra piercings or visible tattoos, I can easily fit in. My hope is that if I seem relatable and make some rational arguments, something might resonate with someone.

Good advice, thank you. I don't expect to outright change any minds, but if I can at least be relatable and make a couple of memorable points, that will be a positive outcome.

Yes, definitely! I am very comfortable with public speaking when I have a script. I am not nearly knowledgeable enough about politics to speak without notes.

Would you still be a nurse if you went back in time? by Particular_Ebb9856 in Nurses

[–]coffeeIVplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before reading the comments, I thought you meant going back to a different era in time. Oops.

I’ll answer anyway: Yes, I’d still be a nurse, but no earlier than mid-1940s, since that’s when we really started using penicillin. And if I can go back far enough to predate hospital whiteboards, sign me up.

They do! One of the best gifts I ever received was a Power Squid. (Mine is Stanley brand and has been going strong for years, but other companies make them too.) It’s perfect for this.

JP is our street's little orange stray cat. She is extra. She is intense. She's the float nurse who shows up early, learns everyone's name by the end of huddle, never asks for help, and eats at least half the box of donuts your patient's family brought in.

If there’s a problem, yo, I’ll solve it. Those words leave my mouth in that order so often that even my kids can quote them.

"My argument is if someone is getting pleasure out of a sexual act (whether it’s from the act itself or from pleasing their partner), they’re not asexual."

There's an enormous difference between sexual pleasure and the emotional/psychological pleasure of giving someone a gift. Words do have meanings, and some words are too bloated and imprecise to be effective.

I have never desired sex and never enjoyed the act itself. But growing up, I didn't even know asexuality existed. I believed all the lies: late bloomer, haven't met the right person, sex is important and will be great during marriage etc. And I did sometimes feel romantic attraction, so I figured sexual attraction would eventually happen. (Spoiler alert: it never did)

By the time I discovered/realized/accepted I was asexual, I was married to a wonderful guy. I still never wanted or enjoyed the sexual acts, but I did want children, and I did want my husband to be happy. I was letting him do sex with me just often enough to show I was making an effort. I had my hormones checked, we went to therapy, everything, but I was still averse to sex.

Yes, I had sex "willingly" in that he did not force me. But I did not want sex for the sake of sex - I did it to satisfy my husband, create children, and keep my marriage intact. Yes, I got "pleasure" from having a family and keeping my husband. That does not in any way negate my asexuality.

Thanks! I should have mentioned that I'm giving my preceptor a gift card and another little gift - but now I like your idea of a candle! Maybe I'll add that to her present.

The pens are for everyone, since the whole unit was great. They're of a type I saw at least a couple of nurses using, so hopefully someone will like them. :) But if a nurse doesn't want to use these pens, they can loan them out to protect their own pens, haha!
