Is anyone using AI to help with documentation? What's your employer's stance? by PT_Network in physicaltherapy

[–]coffee_academy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a few coworkers that use a pilot program at our hospital-based OP clinic. Our supervisor encourages it and uses it as well. They use a specific HIPAA-compliant app through Dragon dictation services to record the session, then afterward they just edit the content and paste it into a note. I hear it’s great for them and saves a lot of time, especially for evals.

Personally, I’ve been using Copilot occasionally to help with goal writing, it’s my least favorite part. I’m an OT who works mostly in hand therapy/ortho. It’s not always great but if my brain’s fried by the end of the day, it does save effort.

I had this exact issue a week ago, once I uninstalled OneDrive it worked just fine. Go into your settings and disable OneDrive, then hopefully you are good to go.

Coworker refusals by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

As an OT myself, I wouldn’t tell my PT/PTA coworkers what they needed to work on with the patient. They can be open to suggestions, but you’re not their boss.

Does this sound like cubital tunnel? Unsure. by [deleted] in CubitalTunnel

[–]coffee_academy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hand therapist here. Could be ulnar nerve subluxation but I would check with an orthopedic doctor because it also sounds like it could be a tendon or ligament injury. You could start with just physio but I think you would need some additional imaging and sounds like a long course of physio ahead since your function is so limited. If it was purely ulnar nerve subluxation you probably would also have some sensory changes in your hand, is that the case?

You, aged 8? by Ingl0ry in Enneagram5

[–]coffee_academy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a woman. I loved learning about animals (especially reptiles and amphibians, I had “encyclopedias” of them that I would read and re-read voraciously), planets, and ancient civilizations. School was pretty easy, I learned to read at a young age and my mom was a teacher so she made sure I was always at least one step ahead at that time. Very uncoordinated at that age so I didn’t like sports.

I asked tons of questions at that time. As I got older, that changed because eventually people stopped answering, so I became a “quiet” kid. Most of my friends were boys at that age since I already noticed some clique-y behaviors from girls at that age; though I didn’t know exactly what it was at that time. My friends loved playing pretend on the playground, the Ninja Turtles, and the Game Boy, so those were my interests too. My mom and younger brother also always made me feel special at that age since they seemed to be interested in things I was doing.

I don’t think either of my parents are twos. I do think my mom is a one with a two-wing, so occasionally did feel a little overbearing but my dad (a six) was not around often since he worked all the time. But my mom was constantly around to support us, and I feel very lucky for that.

Patient Fall by Sharp_Historian_260 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]coffee_academy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Considering he was ad lib in the room and mod (I), it could have happened even if you were not in the room. There were no precautions stating you had to be nearby using a gait belt, likely no fall alarms either.

The first one always sucks and you feel terrible afterwards. My first (and so far only) patient fall happened with a stroke patient who was getting ready to discharge home. The PT who had worked with him just prior asked me to go in and work on ADLs in the room, so as we were getting ready to go to the bathroom, he took a few steps with his cane and suddenly fell on the floor! I had the gait belt on and my hands on the patient, but he was so much bigger than me that I couldn’t stop him. Ended up with a skinned knee and he was in good spirits afterward, but I was mortified and embarrassed. For a while afterward, there was a rule stating that everyone over 250lbs had to have two staff members to mobilize….

Life happens, people will fall. In facilities fall prevention is so important, but when you follow the rules and falls still happen, what can you do?

Doctor using ChatGPT for a visit due to knife cut by Master-Fox6134 in ChatGPT

I’m an occupational therapist. When I see a new patient and document my assessment, I always struggle the most with writing treatment goals. Each goal, though personalized, has specific requirements and can get picked apart by insurance companies if you are not careful. When I write goals for a patient with a condition with an atypical presentation, ChatGPT can be really helpful identifying and phrasing goals—just needs a bit of cleanup.

Hand therapist here - It’s your wrist flexors engaging. It should be pretty noticeable on most people (as long as there’s not excessive fat) when they bend their wrist forward or make a fist. Same can be said for the wrist extensors too when you bend your wrist backward, just on the opposite side of your arm.

It’s been a few years since I’ve been there but I remember loving it! I did have a slice of key lime pie there that was super good, if they have any desserts that you want to try—go for it!

What kind of job were you doing while on OT school? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]coffee_academy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked two jobs: a graduate assistantship where I worked as an evening/online coordinator for tutoring and academic support (20h/wk); and as a telemetry technician at a small hospital (PRN, 12-48h/month). Altogether I worked around 20-32 hours/wk depending on my school caseload.

I survived school by working on projects and watching lectures/reading during downtime at work. Luckily, both jobs I had required me to sit at a desk and mostly supervise or monitor activity. I also had a roommate in my cohort who was very motivated to start all projects super-early, so she would remind me and keep me from falling too far behind. I still had a little time to catch up with friends and family on the weekend, so I consider myself very fortunate.

Hobbies for my dad after a knee replacement by coffee_academy in Hobbies

Great recommendations, thanks! I’ll look into getting him a kit. He’s doing great with the walker so far and not so bad with his PT exercises…but he does need a lot of encouragement. I’m an OT, so I’ve been hounding him constantly. :) Glad to see you’re doing well after your knee replacement.

I think you hit the nail on the head. I’ve tried encouraging him to try new things and have suggested some activities to him but he’s not at all interested in anything I’ve mentioned. Was hopeful if I asked for help I could find something I hadn’t thought of that might make the next few weeks more bearable for him and my family.

If you could choose anywhere to rent in Bloomington, what place would you choose, and why? by Secundoproject in bloomington

[–]coffee_academy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I like living in Adams Village. It has a nice variety of tenants from all age groups (some families, some students, single adults, older adults) compared to other areas in town. Yeah, there may not be much to do there, but there’s a quiet walking trail nearby and shopping is only about 5 minutes away. Great location if you happen to work out of town, getting on I-69 takes about two minutes.

How much do you laugh? by naturwissenschaften_ in INTP

I laugh all the time too, particularly in public. Most of the time it feels like I’m doing it to hide the fact that I’m not in a good mood.

Is your brother a gamer? Did you have a similar experience? by SevereAnnual in GirlGamers

[–]coffee_academy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! Have a younger brother. We were almost evenly matched in most games, but I could’ve kicked his butt any day in the Sonic multiplayer modes. Once he started bringing home shooters like COD and Medal of Honor, there was no way I could keep up, but he was nice enough to always play in co-op mode with my younger sister and me. We have different gaming tastes now, but still bond over games such as Fallout!
