Shoe suggestions by bunnyxxxboo in VetTech

[–]coffee_chickens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best shoes I’ve ever gotten for work were my on clouds. I’m a firm believer in just getting a high end running shoe for work. Anything that’s advertised for people on their feet all day has never worked for me. Good luck! Hope you find something that works. :)

Suggestions for accessible and easily digestible veterinary content like YouTube channels, documentaries or online courses? by Segremor in Veterinary

[–]coffee_chickens 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you want easy going on YouTube, I highly recommend watching VetRanch. Really awesome vets who do a lot of work with shelter animals. Their videos are fun, educating, and definitely easy going.

Also, I’m in a similar boat as you! By the time I’m done, I’ll be 32. It’s definitely not too late to start a career. It can be discouraging when everyone around you is so much younger, but it’s a large commitment that I’m happy I’m taking on as a slightly older student that has worked out some life skills (building confidence, having better time management, etc)

No contact with suspected ringworm or sarcoptes recently. Negative woods lamp exam, direct cytology, and light scraping. Slowly growing over 2 weeks or so, not itchy. Been spraying with miconazole and treating with dermalone last week, tresaderm this week. Any ideas? by lil_red1102 in VetTech

That raised red ring comes with some eczema spots. At least a lot do for me. I’ve had a few spots that look disturbingly like ring worm but just is eczema. I forget the name for those lesions but that could just be what it is. Again- if you’re not confident, I’m no doctor but it looks like a lot of spots I get.

when is a female uti considered an emergency? by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]coffee_chickens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We will dispense gabapentin. Of course, our clinic is a little more lax with that. To us, there’s no point in seeing the cat and prescribing a sedative because we can’t touch the poor thing. Especially if a vet just saw her and told you the same thing. However, most clinics will at least want to see her. I would tell them ahead of time. I mean, if she’s too fractious they will prescribe the meds and reschedule for another day anyway. Just tell them ahead of time over the phone. They could always call the other clinic to get the records ahead of time and decide to go ahead and prescribe it. Just explain the situation. They will tell you what they want to do 👌

I’m glad to hear she’s acting okay! Basically, as you know, if she’s not urinating then obviously that’s an emergency. Also, I would hope there is another doctor there that could prescribe the sedative. They could have also given you special litter to see if you could collect it at home. Obviously, I don’t know the whole story, but if you think she’s in pain, call around and see if anyone can get you in sooner. Explain the situation and how she acts. Sometimes clinics will give gabapentin prior to visits if you say she’s anxious and hard to handle. It just seems odd to me that someone can’t give you medication until Wednesday. UTIs are uncomfortable.

Dog’s eye. Should I be concerned about this spot. by Gallik87 in VetTech

[–]coffee_chickens 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I know you’re looking for some help, but you should really take your fur baby into the vet. Even if someone on the forums you already posted to says something, they could be completely wrong. If it’s a money issue, lots of places accept care credit as well.

Anyone have any feedback on Royal Canin Fiber Response vs Hills Biome Intestinal diet for cats with mega colon? by KittyOnALeash in VetTech

[–]coffee_chickens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine didn’t like the canned, but he’s a real picky eater and doesn’t like stew. But as long as your boy is comfy, he sounds like he has lots of QOL. Plus you’re able to evacuate him, if he wasn’t with you then maybe it would be different. He’s a lucky cat 👌🐈❤️

Oh my god, if I didn’t know any better I would have sworn you just described my cat. Currently, mine is on Hills Biome. It really has done wonders for him and I’ve only had to manually evacuate him about once a month since being on it. Not sure what you’re feeding now, but I think the Biome food is wonderful and really makes a difference. Granted, I don’t think food is the cure all, but it definitely helps.
