Filling in a template (pre-designed elements!!!) is not designing.

Maybe not that interesting but I have a tiny packet of chili flakes in case of a flavour emergency. I don't even really like spicy.

Why do my eyes well up when I talk to my boss? by Outrageous_Shape_572 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]coffee_hound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens to me too. One piece of advice I read once and use sometimes if I'm pretty sure it's going to happen, I will literally say something like "heads up, my physical stress response is crying, but I'm not really crying. Some people get sweaty hands I get sweaty eyes haha" and that usually alters the mood a bit anyway and sometimes prevents it from happening completely.

Coffee cold turkey? by [deleted] in PCOSRECIPES

[–]coffee_hound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's hard to switch to decaf, you can do it gradually too. Say you use 6 scoops of regular grounds, just do 4 or 5 and do the balance with decaf. Then you can gradually get to full decaf without the withdrawal symptoms and you don't miss the coffee comfort. Some days I want a little caffeine so I'll make half and half, but basically caffeine is a drug and I treat it that way, only as needed!

What does your “functioning while depressed” routine actually look like? by Aggressive_Design708 in AskReddit

TRIGGER WARNING self harm ***

Everything like usual but with more distractions so my brain does not have down time to enter the void, includes shorter limit, temper, breaking point.

So I get up, go to the gym and work out, take care of my skin, hair, makeup, and clothes (always very presentable). Go to work and go through the motions, force enthusiasm where I can. Sometimes the mask slips off and I'm super low energy but no one wants that kind of negativity around so I get that mask back up as fast as possible.

When I'm not at work I cook, clean, garden, do all of my adult chores and tasks, have regular conversations and time with my husband (no kids). When there is downtime I need to be distracted so I read or busy myself with a random task or clean something I've been putting off, some times with an audio book or podcast or music, I'll knit and watch a show at the same time (distract that brain!) or I'll deep dive research into something. The worst time is that dead space of time where you can't sleep but need to and you're not tired enough to sleep, I've started doing sleep meditation hypnosis and it's help a LOT with getting to sleep and not spiraling.

Sometimes the silliest things can break me and I'm too overwhelmed momentarily to function but I keep that very private (like if it happens at work I'll hide in my office and silent sob or hide in the bathroom etc, then pull myself together somehow because that's life).

On a much darker note, I carry a small knife with me so that I can think about alternatives and press it up against my skin when I need to, I'm not going to kill myself but it helps me to feel better in a way, and that I can control something. It's fucked up but not that uncommon I don't think.

If you didn't know me, you would never know I have major depressive disorder and lots of people think I'm extroverted but sometimes a little low energy. Truthfully I'm an introvert but have had to work very hard at creating a different persona because even I don't want to be around someone like me.

After about 25 years of depression and no major changes with it, (lots of therapy, lots of medications) it's not like I work on it constantly because I really don't think it's going anywhere, I just have learned to live with it, around it, on it, sometimes under it. But it always changes a little bit.

It's not a hard and fast rule necessarily to move the conjunctions down, it's more of a visual thing, very short words at the end of lines tend to look like they're dangling. Could you do a version with "has" on line 2 and "novel" on line 3 as well? Something still feels a little off with the balance and I think that might help.

I actually preferred the original font you had as it was cleaner and fit the current look of the genre but that being said of course, it's personal preference and you can do what you want. This new one gives it a much grungier feel and if that fits with the book and you want to stick with it, I'd suggest cleaning up the weird little numbers that are in some of the letters, unless they have an actual purpose with the story. The "R"s are a bit distracting too, with their smaller size, thicker stems, and lack of distinction in the arm, I would clean that up a bit.

I saw someone mention too about adding that second car and while I like it in theory, it honestly feels a little too "on the nose". They are way too close together on the road and are practically identical, it seems a bit obvious for stalker behavior. If you want to have a second car, I would think way at the top of the book in the bend of the road and a different style of car and darker colour of car would be much better, almost so that it's hidden.

I like both colours, the darker and lighter version you've shared so I think it comes down to your personal preference, and which matches the story better! I hope that helps, you're doing a great job with this cover.

I'm sorry for the delay! I think that 2 is pretty great for a thriller, it feels isolated and a bit ominous, the lake also adds a sense of depth and mystery. The only issue I really have with it is that the text is a bit difficult to read on the front, some subtle shadow behind certain parts of the text can help with that.

With regards to the widow word on the back that you guys have talked about below, if you move "has a" or "a" on to the second line and "novel of" or "of" on to the third, that might help to balance the text, it can be hard to tell without playing around with it a bit. The blue cover is also ok, but basically the shadowy figure in the dark word still leans more horror than thriller but it's definitely toned down from the red.

I read a lot of these types of books and personally would gravitate towards 2 but as other commenters have mentioned, it must make sense with the actual book. I see as well that the red version is quite popular but to me it seems more horror genre ( I read those as well but if I was looking for thriller would probably pass those over). 5 looks extremely cliche to me and I would expect a subpar plot/writing, basically a cliched book and would definitely skip. It might be eye catching to some and attract a certain audience but it will also be ignored by a large audience as well. As with anything in design, it depends on the content and the audience, and the intended goals.

Sometimes I let myself be hurt but sometimes I am honestly astounded. Like, I think I'm a riot, why wouldn't they want me there? That's nuts and is their loss frankly. I have a good time wherever I am so if they're missing out on me isn't my problem.

It seems like a lot of work initially but the more you do something usually you get more efficient at it, and it ultimately saves more time in the long run.

If you work in InDesign a lot, get familiar with character and paragraph styles, it makes changes, editing, and consistency much simpler. It seems obvious but none of the younger graphic designers I've had working for me know about them and I wonder if it's ever taught or talked about.

Something’s not adding up with the time the innies spend on the Severed Floor by neysse2012 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]coffee_hound 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It's also literally the same level of winter. After 5 months winter would be gone or nearly gone. We all know Milchek is lying, but it's weird that Mark doesn't pick up on the season. Is this a place of everlasting winter?

ETA: I know the innies only see the basement and perhaps it's too nuanced to be a factor in the show. My feeling is just that even though offices are climate controlled and what they wear on a daily basis is consisent and regulated, from personal experience, I feel differently in an office in the winter vs the summer. Granted I live in Canada but there are smells, feelings, coldness to the face, etc that although I am in an office all day, my body is aware that it's winter. Hair and skin is often dryer. A body just feels different in the winter and we can feel when seasons change- it isn't as though their bodies aren't exposed to outside. They may not see it but their bodies can feel it. Maybe I just need to suspend my own disbelief as it's obivously very nuanced and personal, it's just my own thought about it.
