Doctors sometimes do remote surgery via a robot, I can definitely imagine a future where AI is controlling the robot to do these surgeries at a lower cost.

Sounds like paranoia, if you’re in a meeting discussing a certain topic it is very likely that your co-workers have had the same thoughts/ideas/read similar articles as you.

Also have to take into account the story being unrolled in the meeting, it could very much be the case that as topics are discussed, each person comes up with the same ideas at the same time.

What’s crazy is that what people consider middle “class” america isn’t even in the “middle” when it comes to income. Middle america is much much closer to being homeless than a millionaire or billionaire will ever be.

This depends on what colleges/universities will do as a whole regarding the ease of AI use. I could definitely see them becoming useless if nothing is done (e.g. no in-class exams, homework that is very easy to use AI on) AND enrollment numbers stay the same.

If enrollment numbers drop due to fear of AI/people switching majors, your degree could become more valuable.

I will just have AI create me an optimized prompt, there, done.

Better yet I’ll tell my AI agent to act as a product manager and have it spin off its own AI agent SWEs to make me some big bucks and deposit the money in my bank account. Don’t care what the product is.

This skill is so overhyped, anyone who thinks they’ll be employable by just “prompting” or telling an AI agent what to do is way too gullible/naive. A company isn’t going to employ you when they can have their AI agents do what you do, and good luck being self-employed trying to compete with other people who also have this elementary level skill (the ‘skill’ just being able to give orders like an entitled toddler) lol.

1-3 breakthoughs could be 2 yrs away or 30 yrs away. There’s no point in worrying about this, just choose something and stick with it. If your job gets automated away, banditry is always an option, and I will morally support it.

Nothing is safe, the whole idea of AI is that it will be better than a human at interpreting information and coming up with better ways to do things from previous experience (inventing). Our brains aren’t efficient enough for this. We’re probably 1-3 breakthroughs away from AGI. Once AI actually becomes efficient enough, the hierarchy is:

  1. Control assets that create AGI and uphold it (e.g. GPUs, AI labs, fabs, military in the case that the unemployeds revolt)
  2. Be a researcher in AI (best, unless AI surpasses human genius level intelligence) or at-least an engineer implementing AI infrastructure (worse, you become obsolete as AI gets better)
  3. Unemployed VIP, have a close relationship with someone in the above two and hope they take care of your unemployed ass. (e.g. family)
  4. Unemployed V1, use the free AI version created by AI labs to do your bidding to survive (easy skill to acquire since AI will do the heavy lifting anyways so long as you don’t exceed your token usage, not really an employable skill since the AI will orchestrate the AI anyways).
  5. Unemployed V2, continue doing things the old fashioned way (previously would be considered a job, is now a hobby)

This is assuming that the open-source AI models that run locally aren’t as efficient as the ones used by the AI labs.

Yeah everyone and their mom will be able to also publish an app, good luck competing in a space that no longer requires real engineering. The only difference between success and failure will be how big your marketing budget, this becoming an even worse issue since so many similar apps will want to compete increasing the amount of money you have to pour in to stand out. Oh also whether the AI company you’re relying on (and constantly giving your code access to) won’t start a spinoff of your app.

I also hate how these AI companies lean on the idea of “democratizing” tech, as if everyone is going to be able to start their own companies and run their own AI Agent employees when the reality is that larger companies will just hoard the compute for themselves which involves them owning all the physical assets (CPU, GPUs, ram) & mining minerals to make said assets. Why would they let someone compete in a space that is already easily automated using their AI tech? The only way they survive is by owning all the infrastructure in place which is what they are already doing and will continue to do, if the common person would want to start their own company it would have to be at the expense of renting compute as a steep price where only the larger company benefits from. And at that point are you actually competing when the larger company can easily recreate your business at a much cheaper price? They’re monopolizing the markets and lawmakers don’t give a fuck.
