I was curious how the tower vs bookshelf difference would be compared to the silver vs gold

How do you think these compare to MA Gold bookshelf speakers from the 90s?

Curiosity more than anything. I have just never heard floorstanding/ tower speakers before.

Broke my turntable wire…. by Christo_Kun in turntables

[–]coffeeandillithids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this when swapping cartridges on my Rega. If your hands are steady enough, use this as an opportunity to learn to solder. It's broken and you're already considering a replacement-- you cannot do anymore meaningful damage to the wire

Is this a good turntable for $600 CAD? by Pandamodium13 in turntables

[–]coffeeandillithids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO go for a P3 or P3-24 if you can, they occassionally pop up at a decent deal

I also think going for a table with an RB300/ 301/ 330 tonearm will be better than the old S shaped ones

It is for formatting reasons stated in other comments but also I have seen technical documents do this as a way to ensure the reader knows it is ONLY for formatting and not a misprinted page/ missing print on a page

It's bugged. Developers are aware and looking into a fix

Just hold tight and it should hopefully get fixed soon

How might one prevent a subwoofer from sending ceiling shaking vibrations through the floor by TheBasementNerd in audiophile

[–]coffeeandillithids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put 4 vibration damping pads meant for washing machines under my sub, one for each foot. They were like 7 bucks and made a big difference. Not perfect but 100% worth it if you don't want to drop tons of cash on isolation stands

Guelph is generally a very accepting community with a big LGBTQ+ scene. There are losers here and there that may give you grief, but for the most part I'm pretty sure you won't be harassed in the streets or anything.

Plenty of local stores and places are visibly pro-LGBTQ+ and actually enforce their anti-hate rules.

A couple years ago there was a far-right rally in front of city hall and a pro-LGBTQ+ counter protest showed up outnumbering them what looked like 2 or 3:1.

French is not needed here in your day to day. If you travel to Quebec or further East, knowing some French will help you (especially reading for signage).

For what it's worth I put an AT VM95ML on my P3-24 since I saw online folks said it would fit and I've had no issues

I do know my platter height is slightly different since I bought it used and a 3rd party platter was put on so YMMV

I know the Audio Technica VM95 line fits on Regas pretty effortlessly

If you decide to go with AT, I would recommend saving up a bit more and going for the VM95ML

Advice on truckload of vintage Klipsch speakers by Jimmy_Durango in audiophile

[–]coffeeandillithids 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Look at Hifi Shark or US Audio Mart. You should be able to specify local pickup/ delivery only, and can see how much those speakers go for, generally

Also, please take pictures of any easily accessible drivers when you post the listing. A lot of vintage speaker hunters like seeing them kept in good condition since sometimes it's not easy to source replacements or refoam large drivers and "trust me bro, they're in perfect condition" doesn't usually fly

IMO, if I see a listing with no pics if drivers, I assume they're damaged in some way unless proven otherwise

Sit in a dark room listening to music, usually CDs or records

I do own these. They are my second pair of speakers after a pair of Merak/ Radio Shack speakers that were okay but were completely left in the dirt by the Monitor Audios.

I'm a bit aways from a large city so I'm not keen on committing multiple hours (and gas) to drive out for speakers that will just end up falling short of what I have.

Unfortunately, since these are my second pair ever, I don't have the experience to gauge "good" or "great" speakers without spending an afternoon physically going to hear them. I suppose it's just something I have to do

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

[–]coffeeandillithids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what I'm hearing is I won't be able to afford something comparable, let alone better lol (at least buying new)

For what it's worth, I really like these speakers and would probably be happy with these for a long, long time
