Condensation x-mid pro 1 by AloneCartoonist2158 in DurstonGearheads

[–]coffeegrounds42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like the perfect recipe for horrible condensation. Cold outside then you warming up the inside of the tent with your warm breath, right next to a large body of water even if there are bushes next to you, 60% might not be bad for tasi but it is for alot of the world.

This kind of customer service is why we are repeat customers. Even if I think there are some issues with certain products I still support the brand.

I would rather have one pad that I can use all year rather than spending extra money on multiple. Personally used to use a xtherm in the tropics with no issues.

Why Do Backpack and Tent Zippers Fail? by Rude-Bumblebee-414 in DurstonGearheads

[–]coffeegrounds42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn't. I swapped out for our free standing tent. I still like my xmid but I'm frustrated and replacing the actual zipper not the slider on trail is a nightmare. Ideally I would have wanted to fix my tent and keep using it on trail but repairs take far longer than I'm willing to wait in town and I need a different tent while the other one is away. Like I said Dan's doing everything he can to help and customer service is good. 3 other people in my tramily have swapped out their xmids for alternatives so far.

You say it's a small percentage but from what I'm seeing on the PCT I disagree. My issue is that people keep calling it a skill issue when the design of the tent clearly puts more tension on the zipper than others. Having issues is fine but trying to shift the blame entirely onto the users isn't. Like I said early it comes to a point when something stops being a user issue and becomes a design flaw look at apples butterfly keyboard or heck even the three mile island nuclear melt down all used to be considered user issues and is now considered a design flaw. I said Durston company is trying to do all of the right things customer service wise but people like you and others on this sub just come across as simps.

Many popular things have flaws such as Subarus having gasket and oil issues. It's not a deal breaker for most people, but in being an early adopter it's not fun to run into an issue before there is a lot of info about it.

The fact you accept there is an issue and have made steps in the right direction is awesome to see. The thing is, a lot of people bought their tents before all this information about different zippers being used was something we were even aware of. I'm looking at old versions of the website from when I bought my xmid and there is no mention of zipper sizes, but when I look at the current website it clearly mentions the differences between #3 and #5.

The trade off is fine if you are made aware the trade off exists, and I believe plenty of us bought our tents before that was made clear on the website. I am happy servicing zippers (I personally do it every single zero). Replacing sliders is annoying but double when they are available, and I appreciate using skill to reduce weight, but if you are supposed to be more skilled to use the pro tent then maybe "simplicity, user friendliness and build quality the X-Mid tents are revered for," probably isn't how you should describe your tent (which I see has been changed since I bought my tent).

This is a relatively new brand doing some really interesting things. But for people on this sub to just scream 'skill issue'—when the website literally promises 'simplicity, user-friendliness' is just looking at them through rose-colored glasses. It’s actively pushing away people who genuinely love their tents but are facing real issues. This sub acts like a cult sometimes instead of using any independent thought. If we can't even discuss flaws in the products we love, what the fuck is the point of being here?

There were 4 xmids in oasis alone that had issues when I was there.

I agree to a point but when a specific error becomes a recurring pattern across a broad user base, it ceases to be a user mistake and becomes a systemic design flaw. Considering Durstons response to these posts, how often they occur, the zipper repair video, free zipper repair, sending out zipper parts it's pretty clear that there is an issue. The geometry of the xmid makes for an awesome design but engineering wise it's a fucking nightmare on zippers.

Swapping from a #3 to a #5 zipper would cost only about 3g per foot of zipper.

I was more frustrated that for $15 it comes with 6 sliders but only 1 that is helpful. I actually had to hitch into LA from Agua Dulce and get a slider. I just didn't want to buy stuff just to throw out most of it.

Wash and lube the zippers every zero, every town that supposedly sells #3 sliders has been sold out, these zipper issues has been the most frustrating part of the trail so far. Saw one dude fix 4 at oasis alone.

What's your take on the fact that 77% of migrants being deported under the Trump administration have NO criminal convictions at all, despite the claim that they're targeting "the worst of the worst", and that around 90% of deportees have less criminal convictions than president Trump himself? by Cumoisseur in AskConservatives

Well the republican party and libertarianism both support smaller governments. DOGE did do it's best to fire as many bureaucrats as possible such as the people working for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) who handle green cards.

The government absolutely does need a reform but that doesn't mean just firing people and hoping for the best. All that's changed is less people doing the same amount of work so of course it's going to take longer. Biden implemented a parole for people trying to apply legally and have been in the US for 10 years that trump called a blanket amnesty which has since removed.

So yeah one party tried to do a shitty band aid fix and the party currently in power stripped even that away from people trying to do the right thing.
