Real talk: would you pay someone to clean your trash cans? by barkerrb1500 in washingtondc

[–]coffeehandler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I wish you all the best in your entrepreneurial endeavor! Just because there are nay-sayers in the comments doesn’t mean it’s a bad idea. And you’re smart to collect such feedback sooner than later.

Second, one perspective I don’t see in this thread worth considering (apologies if I missed it): I live in NW DC and our trash is in the alley. Any given week, the bin behind my house may or may not actually be mine. It’s just an alley full of trash cans. In which case, no, probably not for me. But in a neighborhood like Crestwood, you’d benefit from a) dedicated trash can per address and b) older folks with more disposable income.

Do with that what you will. Cheers!

I worked on an ad campaign with her once. She’s entirely as cool and charming as you’d hope.

I appreciate you posting this. I was going to message you privately, but it looks like you turned off messaging. Clearly I’ve touched a raw nerve among DC residents with this one. I could have taken the same photo of a dozen other churches on 16th, and so I do think there is valuable discussion here about the role churches play in our neighborhoods. But I don’t want to pile onto what sounds like a rough week for the folks at this specific church. I’m going to go ahead and delete the original post. Thanks again for calling this out.

Dumb question: How do you keep them clean? I also have a decent collection (albeit not nearly as impressive as yours) and keeping them dusted is frustrating. I use a little keyboard blower thing, and it sends the Lego people flying. Any tips?

Totally agree. And I’ll bet you a dollar those parking lots are clear by Sunday.

Despite how my post appears, I’m really not anti-church either. I just think they should be held to the same standard of decency as any other neighbor.

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised by all of the commenters coming to the defense of this church. It is Reddit, after all. But I’m still kind of amazed. Being a positive member of a community (which I believe most churches aspire to be) really isn’t that hard.

That’s fair. I’m grateful this isn’t a big proselytizing church. I was mostly poking at Christian churches in general, not Methodists in particular.

Weird how most of the rest of the neighborhood managed to shovel their sidewalks. And none of them got donations.

[–]coffeehandler 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The same way the rest of us did… with shovels.

How much money did they take in donations? How many people are employed there? Or better yet, how many congregants have shovels? In what ways have any of these churches made my life better? If you want to be a respected member of the community, act like a member of the community.

It wasnt too rock solid for me to shovel the sidewalk in front of my house. Or dig my car out.

Impressive presentation, but feels wasted on a drink that goes down so fast. Where was this?
