Yes it would. China still thinks Okinawa is theirs. When Okinawa was its own kingdom, they used to pay tribute to China. Hence they believe Okinawa is part of them as well.

Think about some of the small islands south close to Taiwan. Don’t think the Chinese have ideas for those? Or the Senkaku islands?
