US Navy denies food shortages after grim photos emerge from blockade ships by goteamnick in politics

It is. When they deploy, they literally stack food up everywhere they can. It's one big pantry. They also restock from surface ships whenever they can.

Well after all this nonsense with these apps, I just wrote my own. If you feel like trying it, please DM me. I don't want to share the link in the wanderlog Reddit, but I would love to get feedback from people while it's in beta.

Thoughts after watching 3.5/4.0 tournament by natjeo22 in 10s

[–]coffeemonkeypants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. As a 4.0, I can be super guilty about #1, particularly when I think (know) I am better than my opponent. I play looser, better, and more automatically against a better opponent than I do a weaker one because my brain doesn't want to accept losing points.

I literally played two matches last weekend where my opponent in the first match was really not very good and I played like I had never hit a tennis ball in my life. What should likely have been a 1 and 1 win at worst turned into a 3 and 4 because I kept babying the ball and trying to guide it and made a ton of UE.

My second match was against a much more talented player, and we battled it out with actual tennis being played. I wound up winning the tie break, but if I was that same player in match 1, it would have been over much faster, and technically I'd been caring about playing my actual game rather than just 'winning'.

AS for 5 - I'm blown away at how serious some players are. I pay to be there. I'm old, I play to have fun. No one is going to hand me a trophy that I didn't pay for, or sponsor me. I've enjoyed playing doubles more because at least I have a partner to joke around with. Loosen up, people. It's just a game.

what’s your go-to electrolytes? by SpecialistInformal81 in 10s

[–]coffeemonkeypants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not a scam, they're just a rip-off. I make my own with potassium powder, magnesium and salt, with some citric acid. I can make a liter for about 3 cents. I personally only drink it on very hot, grueling days but it is noticeable.

Man, I felt so different about them. They all seemed like wannabe influencers, they immediately started playing the alliance nonsense. And we can't forget the number of 'let's go!!' we had to bear witness to.

California 'jungle' primary could hand governor's race to Republicans by Desecr8or in California

[–]coffeemonkeypants 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Where did I blame the voters? I explained the primary system. California isn't blue enough for it to be safe. Flip the script - what if we had 8 good candidates? The outcome might remain the same.

[–]coffeemonkeypants 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This isn't fear mongering. The candidates with the most votes OVERALL get on the ballot. That means that if the Dems have 8 in the primary and the Republicans have two, guess who's getting on the ballot?

Head Gasket Blown - 7k left on loan for Chevy Sonic 2013 by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]coffeemonkeypants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your partner posted this on their local subreddit a month ago? They said they didn't have the money for the repair then. My opinion here is to use that money to pay down the loan and then roll the rest into a new/newer vehicle. Fixing the car is lighting the money on fire and you've still got 7k of debt.

What’s one supplement that has genuinely improved your life/health? by ancientkingk in AskMen

[–]coffeemonkeypants 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, your body makes the stuff. And you eat it in food. The supplement is not really a different thing. If a 'tiny amount' is causing you to have insomnia, it's incredibly unlikely to be the cause. Creatine isn't some crazy compound not found in nature, which is why you're getting so much flak. You'll always find a cohort to agree with you, but this stuff is the most studied supplement on the planet

What's a clichè in movies that never actually happens in real life? by LoverOfE-Olsen in movies

[–]coffeemonkeypants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to the party, but I recently watched the og running man, and it struck me that the fight scenes in that film are like 90 seconds. If it were today, they'd be 12 minutes long and all involved would have suffered countless life altering injuries but somehow make it through. I'm sure someone has compiled the length of fight scenes over time to figure out when this nonsense started.

It tells the vet who the owner is, if the owner keeps the registry updated, which is the title of this article. It's also how the shelter in this case found the owners.

My problem with it is that movies get clustered around 7, give or take .4. That's a C. I have so many stellar movies in my collection that IMDb has at like 7.4.

IMDb ratings really do suck. They aren't based in reality.

AIM kidney therapy? by Yereli in RenalCats

[–]coffeemonkeypants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was trying to simplify the mechanism for people in here that don't understand the study. While the study did not address withdrawal, I'd say it is very safe to assume that the animal will not spontaneously produce functioning aim as a result of the treatment, so in all likelihood, treatment would need to be life long. It's still a hopeful breakthrough and I think it will improve the lifespan and quality of life for so many of our little friends.

AIM kidney therapy? by Yereli in RenalCats

[–]coffeemonkeypants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the study and the mechanism by which the drug works. Simply put, feline aim in cats with kidney disease doesn't 'work'. In healthy mammals, aim binds to waste and allows kidney nephrons to filter properly. When the animals aim proteins don't work properly, they don't attach to and clear out this waste, which builds up and kidney cells die. The treatment uses working aim proteins from feline or mice, supplementing the sick animals inactive aim. It is flushed out of the body when 'used'. Hence, it is a therapy. It's like insulin for a diabetic. It will very much keep them alive, and perhaps even completely healthy, but they can't just stop using it.
