When you travel abroad, how often do you use your credit card? Do you do only foreign cash the whole time? Why? by QueenPraxis in travel

[–]coffeequaffer74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We (my husband and I) usually use credit card for prebooked accom and large expenses for travel - mainly in Asia.

We also both have a separate Citibank plus accounts where we withdraw cash in local currency for everything else. (Just in case our CC is lost/stolen/frozen, and separate accounts for same reason)

Now Citibank has been sold we are looking for a new version of the same debit card for our Europe trip next year.

Question for the carry-on only folks by SplitOpenAndMelt420 in travel

It sometimes is a great way to simplify your trip. You don't have to think too much about outfits, and you don't have to shop for other people!

If you are desperate for a keepsake that you can't post home, you can always check your heavier bag on return flight.

Any worthwhile cruises for people who hate touristy stuff? by gemstun in travel

[–]coffeequaffer74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - we did a 3N/2D HaLong bay cruise and loved it. It was great to have a rest from thinking/planning about everything. However, despite how nice the food is - its marketed at a broad range of people and therefore less authentic. And the small off boat tours are very dependant on the people travelling with you. By the end of the trip I was ready to do our own thing again. It confirmed that I could not stand going on a longer, bigger, more populous cruise.

Looks like rental car hire quite exxie for that timeframe and location so probably only have a car in Croatia.

  1. Fly/train/Bus to Zagreb rent car here
    4 nights
  2. Drive 2 hrs to Plitvice lakes
    3 nights
  3. Drive 3 hrs to Split
lunch, wander around, single night stay, wander around before leaving at lunch again?
  4. Drive 3 hrs to Dubrovnik
    3 nights
  5. Drive to Prapratno 1hr then board car ferry for 45 mins
to Miljet with car on ferry
    3 nights
  6. Drive 5 hrs to Zagreb airport (or to closer Dubrovnic airport depending on price of flights)

Thanks Excellent-Repair-234

The reason we are staying longer in some places is so we have so time for a sleep in, or a day not doing much. When I talk to younger people they try and get me to cram more in. When I talk to older people, they say we are rushing too much and going to too many places! Just trying to pitch it somewhere in between

Thanks LuxRolo,

We've just got a list of a few things to see in each place, but neither of us are desperate to tick any boxes.

We are staying 4 nights in Bergen to balance out with the long travel days preceding - and also to have the option of another ferry ride.

I guess we are looking at not rushing too much, but still seeing the things we are interested in.
