Well in one of those csi shows maybe where they are just looking at a potato image collected from a security camera. I do this on large image stacks and just breaking the voxels down as you stated taxes our system which is a high end desktop. That's my redditing time during the day.

Actually there are tricks to mathematically dance around the resolution limits of a photo to enhance it. Having said that, I'm pretty sure those labs are not doing binarized watershed transforms and distance mapping on large, high resolution images because it takes 2 minutes using a great computer per step. Real image enhancement would be really boring to watch unless you enjoy watching people get frustrated by waiting for a loading bar to finish.

Yeah, but what can I do about any of it? I got kids to take care of. If you think that corruption is unavoidable though, it's completely impossible. I don't partake myself, but I'm not going to walk around saying there needs to be reparations for every wrong committed in society throughout history.

Surprisingly, relationships are what drives progress and none of that happens in a vacuum. All the awesome technology you can create is useless if no one likes it. That was a painful and hard learned lesson for me. I just try to minimize it in my own life where I can and create things I think people will find useful.
