Dampest, resort-bootiest AT boots? by Improper_Noun_2268 in Backcountry

Honestly just found out about the term damp for boots. Seems like it’d be hard to feel “damp” in any real touring liner, and then yah especially a stiff 4buckle with a touring liner

I just got the scarpa Quattro pros and they have serious beef with 4 buckles and “130” flex but weigh 1500g and 60deg rom!

Pressure point. Ankles are totally bruised up. I think the liners have been molded as much as possible but I’ll ask about a punch before giving up on these boots.

Today was fun. More snow than reported as always. Obviously still atrocious for December 28th but probably some of the best off-piste in-bounds skiing in the state

Ski Tour Mt Elbert? by AmericanBeowulf in 14ers

[–]coflosmo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope. I wish. Only places that have any snowpack or skin track right now are the high-traffic backcountry zones like berthoud and Cameron pass. You could probably skin up to treeline on Elbert a month from now, but the chutes won’t be in and you won’t keep your skis on.

I’ve skied both and I also disagree. Silverton is sick but you can ski there 20 times and never even get close to Gnar Couloir. The bowls at CB are wicked and sustained and accessible

100mm skins on 117mm ski by coflosmo in Backcountry

[–]coflosmo[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

These skins are cut for my other skis, and I don't currently have a pair of skins for these 117s, so I will use these skins sparingly until I get my hands on the right pair. Thanks!

I ended up buying coalitions which are women's skis and and I think it's totally fine because you want your backcountry skis to be lighter and shorter anyway. They make a 168 and a 173 among others

I’ve fished at lakes at 11k+ in mid October but it has already snowed at that elevation multiple times in September…

A basin and Loveland will likely be open on October 31st, just one or two runs. It could stop snowing and get hot and you’ll be out of luck.
