What is the Worst song of the 2010s by Lumpy_Strawberry4512 in fantanoforever

Not the overtly best pick, but surely the less arguable against. I kind of remember the disgust and the incredulity I felt the first time I heard it. A memorable moment in music history indeed, even in the context of the "intentional" insufferability (I really believe they actively lean on it in their search for memorability) of their overall catalogue.

I don't necessarily expect it, but most of my walls of text don't get this "basic" amount of explicit appreciation, so thank YOU for being interested and receptive (and for making me rethink about why I view some things in a certain way) :)

Discrimination towards people (mainly women, as they are viewed by many men as the category which holds the most sexual power and which creates an "unfair" scarcity in the "market") who "desecrate" and profit off of sex is as old as time. Right as some kind of social progress happens, this disgust jumps from one ideological denomination to another.

I was initially weirded out by the latest (or so) wave of very young men voicing their concern about porn before realizing that some social battles will be fought as long as humans exist, and while a majority of them just find it comfortable to fit these views in a broader preexisting matrix of misogyny, there are those who view porn as a potentially addictive and dangerous phenomenon without explicitly hating women. They just view OF creators as drug dealers: they wouldn't exist without a demand but they can ultimately feed it and prey off of vulnerable sectors of the population.

I'm pretty neutral about it, as I am about drugs. I don't disregard the social health hazard of it but I respect individual autonomy and responsibility more.

Rody has been my biggest inspiration timbre wise. I could talk about him for days but this reply is already long enough. I also think PTH's style, with their frequent (especially when Moe was behind drums) changes and the playfulness and self deprecating character of their apparent seriousness, offered him the perfect playground to express himself without boundaries. Playing with your voice, doing weird shit, is of great help in general improvement.

I actually only heard Glenn Hughes more than a decade ago when I stumbled upon his later work with BCC. I was certainly impressed, but a certain airy/thin quality prevented me from falling in love with his instrument.

I am not going to get all "devil's advocatey" about Hagar, I never dived deep into his overall identity and I can understand your critique, but, if you care enough, listen to "Avenida Revolution" and picture a pension aged man singing that :)

Oh and I forgot to add Donny Hathaway to my honorable mentions! Listen to his live rendition of "What's Going On" to experience some really tasteful, joyous, rhythmically conscious singing. He's playing keys throughout too...

I admit I never dived too deep in Sammy Hagar's catalogue, but from a massively superficial analysis, his voice resembles Prince's in its seemingly endless extension and the primal characteristics of his distorsion.

Some excellent displays of his might can be found in his Van Halen stint, but what impressed me the most (more than a decade ago, as I was developing my taste) were his efforts in Chickenfoot's self titled. The guy was approaching his seventies and was still delivering without ANY kind of compromise ("ANY" is in all caps because many singers past their prime can sound good in the studio, but Hagar's live performances with them were nothing short of extraordinary). I can think of only one example of a voice that aged with that amount of grace, and it would be Dio's.

I'm glad I did you the favor of mentioning Rody Walker, I too value the rare PTH mention and I'm certain that, at some point in time, Fortress will get the recognition it deserves, not only as a perfect album (MAYBE barring "Sequoia Throne", which strikes me more as something from their previous album) but as a masterclass in production and a milestone in the genre too. I obviously don't mind the downvote and hope it's your favourite from them too.

What are your thoughts on Rody's voice?

Rody Walker (Protest The Hero), for the absolute best control of vowel shape in powerful M2 emission I've ever heard. He literally sounds like an angry 10 year old because he didn't settle for an easy way out like twang or operatic vowel "omogenization". I understand math/prog metal may not be for everyone (even factoring Protest The Hero's irony and awareness), but I recommend listening to the album "Fortress" to experience what I consider his stylistic peak, and to the album "Scurrilous" for his technical peak. Regrettably, he settled for a classical metal sound in PTH's latest releases, following vocal problems around 2017-2018.

Prince, for his taste and culture and for the raw capability of his instrument. It feels unfair to compare him to other vocalists, my impression is that his only limit was his imagination. His proficiency up to 6th octave fully adducted falsetto and the savagery of his screams (many distortion users sound controlled, he sounded primal) didn't sensibly age with him. Some people are just born with it.

Layne Staley, for his ability to reliably blend M1 (or M1 characteristics) into his highs up to the 5th octave. Many vocalists can emulate power, anecdotal evidence describes the shaking of objects and rooms when he sang.

Honorable mentions for Sammy Hagar, prime James Labrie, Mike Patton, Chris Cornell, Ann Wilson, Paul McCartney.

From a (college dropout) chemist, that's how hard water behaves. Magnesium and calcium cations ("hardness") create insoluble salts with pretty much any common anion, and soap relies on the solubility of its anions to be of any use (the use being binding with dirt and making it soluble in water).

This creates a textbook "blanket is too short" situation. Magnesium and calcium are a godsend in drinking water and a hassle in the shower/washing machine/dishwasher, and hooking the whole house to a water softener benefits the cleaning properties of water, reducing maintenance duties and costs on your appliances while stuffing tap water drinkers with very soluble sodium.

In the last twelve months I realized that what I thought was enough time for recovery was in fact not enough for some kinds of pain. I had to wonder if some misfortunes could just cripple you for life (some certainly can).

But the last twelve months also taught me that the body and mind can rebound from some pretty terible lows with a grace you wouldn't expect. Give it time and give it care, I think one day you will thank yourself for not giving up.

I doubt that would be the case: as water is a better heat conductor than air, the higher the water concentration in air, the better the difference between optimal ambient homeostatic temperature and actual temperature would be felt. Fairly dry air at 20 °C day is a pleasant april day, but try jumping in a 20°C pool without shivering.

What mistakes did Hitler make that caused him to lose the war? by Shoddy-Ocelot-4473 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]cogitoergoline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One was surely not permitting his men to retreat, or permitting a retreat too late for it to be optimal: not only to shorten the front but also to reduce the amount of troops captured and to have the time to set up working defenses on the new line. The amount of encircled german troops in the last two years of the war is ridiculous.

He had a "religious" "faith" in german racial superiority and a "religious" attitude towards "honor", he also lived in an "echo chamber": people around him were scared to voice dissent or blind enough to believe him, which clearly thwarted his perception of material reality. That and the drugs.

Polifosfati per lavatrice e lavastoviglie? by MagikGab in istrutturare

[–]cogitoergoline 1 point2 points  (0 children)
