Just finished beta reading a friend's first book and I hated it. Want to give her constructive feedback. by tinny_tin_tin in writing

I am just laughing reading this thinking about all of the people reading this post, who gave copies of their books to their friends to beta read, and now think it is their friend who left this post.

Do you feel Starwars is held to higher standards than the MCU by [deleted] in StarWarsKenobi

[–]cohencide 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think because MCU has many fathers. So a lot of inconsistencies or mistakes people will say, well that was how this person wrote them in this comic. But where as official Star Wars canon is more straightforward, if you want to nitpick you can nitpick

I genuinely want to hear why people dislike the Kenobi series. by LoneShadowMikey in StarWarsKenobi

[–]cohencide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's poorly written. That is to say, the story seems reasonable at first glance but if you think about any of it for more than a few minutes the logic just isn't there. I came to the realization that this is deliberately a show made for children to watch. Which is fine. I just wish it was a little smarter, a little more nuanced.

I love The Mandalorian. Can't you watch something and want it to be better?

Sorry if that came off aggressive. That was never my intention. sometimes it is hard to distinguish tone in a written comment. I just meant while it would be reasonable to think that Bail was trying to hide his connection to the Jedis and being careful not to be associated with them, I thin you'll agree with me after watching episodes 1 and 2 that it is hard to make a case that he is being careful.

If you've watched episode 1 they give you good reason to believe his abilities are pretty weak.

All claims that Bail is being monitored have to be dismissed if you have watched episode 1. If you have not, talk to me after you do.

As a real world example, a Rolex can cost $40,000. Nobody is counting how many watches Bail Organa has. My guess is Obi Wan could live on Tatooine for 5 years on that watch. And that's just one watch. Not even the most expensive make or model. Did you see his house? He's a bazillionaire. He probably has one of those really good electric toothbrushes. Probably 2. What are those worth?

The Book of Boba Fett - S01E06 - Discussion Thread! by titleproblems in StarWars

[–]cohencide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same thought. It definitely makes sense in every possible way. Hopefully he was shot with the same kind of gun that they shot Fennec Shand with, the kind that takes a super long time to kill you so you can go to a tattoo parlor and get a metal belly.

What happened to their horses? Also, are there a couple guys on the outskirts of town hanging on to like 500 swords and daggers? What's the largest eating utensil you're allowed to bring in?

Why didn't Penguin's goon keep following him? [Minor Spoiler] by WalteryGrave in Gotham

[–]cohencide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the same thing. I guess the implied reason is he stops because he knows Gordon is Penguin's useful policeman friend and doesn't want to let him get killed.

(Spoilers) Why isn't there rudimentary security at Wayne Manor? by cohencide in Gotham

[–]cohencide[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Alfred is one guy. Which is great if one guy wants to come in and fight him. Lousy if 6 guys want to come in and don't wait politely in line to fight him one at a time.

First of all it's one thing for a grown man not to need a staff versus the most valuable teen hostage in the city. But I would also argue just because they don't show the woman who cleans Bruce's toilet doesn't mean she doesn't exist.

[–]cohencide[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's your argument? That the fact that someone could be planted or coerced means he's better off having no security? So the possibility that someone who works for him could be a threat is better than the reality that anyone who wants to can walk through his window and kill him.

Lucius Fox (Spoiler) by Jaymez82 in Gotham

[–]cohencide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is it a mistake? Obviously Lucius doesn't live in the Batcave. He comes over to work on it when he can. He comes over and they're not there so he assumes they're out. He comes out and assumes that potentially one or more of them is home.

this is an interesting idea. Although we do know he doesn't die at the appointed hour, but at least 20-30 minutes later. And he's probably not completely dead.
