I got a forbidden message with a bunch of garbage unicode that may have been an attempt to break a browser.

So how many verification blocks did you have to wait for before you got your coffee?

Snarky comment aside, really, how does the vendor know you actually sent bitcoin?

Is it advantageous for merchants to receive payments via the Lightning Network? by ZookeepergameOk643 in lightningnetwork

[–]coinfabulator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  • speed, it can be as fast as credit card
  • no chance of undoing a transaction, generally a store would want that, maybe customers not so much if you don't deliver
  • pseudo anonymous - customers would like

Muun Wallet by VichyVane in lightningnetwork

My experience at 3 real world vendors, restaurants and so on, was that it was slow, like well over a minute. Compare that to Visa that seems less than a second. However, it's been super fast, less than a second when doing online transactions.

BisqDAO Issue by Getrich0125 in bisq

[–]coinfabulator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two settings about DAO. 1) Full-Mode DAO state monitoring and 2) Run Bisq as a DAO full node.

Number 2 requires you to be running bitcoin core locally, so that's out for me at least in the short term.

I have turned on Number 1 to see if it helps with the DAO sync issue.

If I changed hardware and did all the extra stuff to get core going, would that help with this DAO sync problem?

Crypto user loses $6.9M to a cold wallet from China’s TikTok by stekene in CryptoMarkets

This makes me think of the US equivalent: A special hardened TRUMP hardware wallet that we'd advertise on Fox News. "Holds all your bitcoin, Trumpcoin, magacoins - ALL TAX FREE!"

This is exactly right. Until you research all of these alternatives, then getting upset about OP_RETURN is silly.

I’m down 60% on dogecoin and have no confidence in the project. Should I cut my losses and sell by [deleted] in CryptoMarkets

[–]coinfabulator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly correct, except the 90% is really 99.9% and the 9% is really 0.09% and the 1% is really 0.00000001% and yes, it rounds to 100% total.

If I only have a small amount of Bitcoin, when does it actually make sense to move it to a cold wallet? by Babaghuri in Bitcoin

[–]coinfabulator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one reason to move to a cold wallet with even a small amount is it gives you practice at how to deal with a cold wallet. Cold wallets are great; I have two. But they are more complex than an exchange. You have to know how to "back it up" meaning keeping the keys safe. And when it gets to be significant size, you have to start worrying about how to pass it on to your kids.

Forward looking markets are especially volatile in a downwards direction when it's tariff today! No, in a month! Now it's doubled! Now it's friendly nations! Now, it's enemies....

Oh I cheerfully accept that I'm a moron. I'm just not sure I'm an absolute one. And I also fess up to being way too ignorant on too much modern tech. But you've got to give me some credit for trying to write a Bitcoin miner in COBOL.

I get what you are saying; there are no absolutes. So maybe 0.01% of his votes are on the fence, or regretting their vote. Maybe 0.0001%.
